In this writing it will be discussing childhood development, as well as some vital issues that might come along during those stages of development. Child development consist of the stage where the child is developing physically, cognitively, socially and spiritually. During these stages of development a child is maturing from infancy to becoming a young adult. For many years theorist such as Sigmund Freud, Erik Erikson, and Lev Vygotsky’s have researched how children mature from infants to adulthood. Each of the theorist have profound facts to how children develop, but which of the three men are correct on their findings?

All children and young people develop at different rates, but the order which they advance in differs very little. Children’s development tends to progress from head to toe, inner to outer, from simple to complex and from general to specific.

Child development was largely ignored throughout much of history as children were often viewed simply as smaller versions of adults. It was once researchers recognised the direct effect that development has on individuals that its relevance became important. Childhood development begins from infancy to adolescent and follows a predictable sequence yet progresses through a unique form of growth within each child. Understanding childhood development is essential because it allows us to fully appreciate the cognitive, emotional and physical growth that children experience, Some of the major theories of child development are Gesell, Piaget, Erikson and Bronfenfrenner.

Intimacy versus isolation is stage six in Erik Ericksons eight stages of human development. This stage takes place from approximately 19-40 years of age (Orlofsky, Marcia, & Lesser, 1973). The big question that people face in this stage is will I be loved or will I be alone. During this stage people start to develop more long term relationships. When an infant arrives in the world they are helpless tiny humans who depend on adults for every need from love, to feeding them. It is amazing how these tiny babies grow into adults able to make decisions and become self-dependent. There are many theories about how children develop and what roles the environment plays, what people affect their lives and how events can shape their personalities. Some of these children have and easy life and some have a harder time making that journey to adulthood.

On top of the expected pattern of children and young people’s development including “physical, communication & intellectual & social, emotional & behavioural development there are also “personal and external” factors which will affect how they develop.

Without it, it can negatively impact on social development. Health-poor nutrition can have a negative impact on development psychologically and physically. It can cause weight problems and unhealthy eating can have other negative effects if they are not taught to eat healthy early on in life. Parental interactions-this can have a positive or negative effect on a child's development. If a child has time spent playing, reading, doing activities with them, it will have a positive impact on their development. However if a child is neglected/ignored by their parents, it may affect their development in a more negative way. Learning environment-a strong learning environment both at home and at school/nursery that is informative/supportive is very important as this may improve their development. If the educational environment is poor or under privileged, development will be negatively affected. Therefore good parental support and involvement can play an important part in a child's development. Pollution-pollutants from within the environment can affect a child's physical development, they can lead to breathing difficulties and growth restrictions. Social background-factors

It has been almost 3.5 million years since humans started roaming the Earth. Homo erectus first evolved with an upright posture enabling people to use their hands.
