A Series of Unfortunate Events On a chilly Wednesday on January 14 of the year 1998, I, an eight pounds, six ounces baby, was born. My mom and dad were in bed at ten the night before, and it was decided that the time was now, for her water broke and they were on their way to the hospital. I was dark haired and brown eyed, and my mom wanted to name me after her, but dad decided on the name Jolene, with a pronunciation twist and his own spelling. At the time they were living in, what my dad says was, a pretty crappy apartment in Sioux Falls that when every time you turned around, cockroaches were scurrying for cover. Shortly after my birth, we moved into a trailer house that I remember clearly being right across the street from Falls Park. …show more content…
All three were pretty much drama/comedies, and were on the air until a handful of years ago, just like the songs that came out back then still play somewhat often today. The song that was at the top of the charts the week of my birth was Elton John’s “Candle in the Wind,” and this was due to Princess Diana’s death the month before. Elton John was actually friends with Princess Di, so he had his lyricist Bernie Taupin rewrite the song for her and he sang it at her funeral (Lynch). He’s only sung that rewrite publicly once, and has said that he’ll never sing it again unless asked by the Princess’s sons (Doyle). He got a Grammy for that version and a Billboards Single of the Year award for the year before (The Recording Academy). Elton John wasn’t the only one who earned a Grammy. Celine Dion, James Horner, and Will Jennings earned as many as 12 awards for the famous song My Heart Will Go On from the movie The Titanic (“1998 Music”). A Grammy was also awarded to Aerosmith and it’s first chart topper “I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing,” the following year (“Rock On The Net: …show more content…
Hopefully we can get it back down to the percent in January 1998; it is 5.5% right now (United States Department of Labor). Thankfully minimum wage did go up, even though a youth’s minimum wage is a dollar lower, today it is $8.50 for adults(“Minimum Wage”), compared to $5.15 (DMarie Time Capsule). Along with other things, the value of a dollar has also gone up. If I had bought something worth $10 back then today it would be $14.49. Sadly on the list of prices that have gone up, we also have our national debt. In 1998 it was around five trillion dollars, and now it’s about a whopping 18 trillion (“US Debt

That same year, Etta James released Let's Roll, which won the Grammy Award for best contemporary blues album. World music is a musical grouping covering many different styles of music from all around the world. Some examples are including traditional music, nontraditional music, and also music where more than one cultural tradition interacts. David Bowie was an exceptionally brilliant artist and musician who left behind an amazing body of work so, naturally, we’re curious as to what Bowie put into his body and mind. Here’s a look at some of the psychoactive compounds Bowie ingested over the years, and his views on drugs.
Hence, I hoped Prince was on that list because he was the only artist. The death of Prince made me cry and feel as if I lost my boyfriend. Just the same, I felt like a big part of my life was missing compared to Whitney Houston. Just the same, he should have been on the list. Anyhow, Whitney Houston was a great person, however, I just wish the opportunities laid out for her life served
The social, cultural, and entertainment news around the date of my birth included many top and important releases, a few top hits are still in today. Top songs I got to listen to as a newborn were “I Believe I Can Fly” by R. Kelly, “Wannabe” by Spice Girls, and “Candle in the Wind” by Elton John. In 1973, Elton John wrote the first “Candle in the Wind” as a tribute to Marilyn Monroe. Then in 1997 when Princess Diana died in a car crash, he rewrote it and only performed it live at her funeral (Doyle). Also, Elton John won Best Pop Male Vocal with “Candle in the Wind” in 1997 at the Grammys (Trader 's Edge LLC, Music). Some songs I don’t remember as much are “Can’t Nobody Hold me Down” by Puff Daddy featuring Mase, “I’ll Be Missing You” by
Way back in 1994, you may remember a little movie called The Lion King. Well, Elton John wrote a badass number called Can You Feel the Love Tonight. Well, the world did feel the love that night and Elton John went home a happy, gay, Oscar-winning man. Sorry Sam Smith, try as you might, you can't beat the King.

Celine Dion dominated the pop charts in the 1990s. She remains a popular entertainer and is the second-highest earning musician in history. In 2007, Celine Dion released some of the most adventurous music of her career on the album Taking Chances. She really suffered personal tragedy in January 2016 when her husband and her brother died of cancer just two days apart. By the End of February, she returned to the Las Vegas stage and in May accepted the Billboard Icon Award at the Billboard Music Awards. She Sang Queen's ' The Show Must Go On'
