Reflection
During my three-day observation, I noticed that I consumed foods that were above the limit intake. There were days where I ate a lot of foods and other days were I did not consume enough nutrients. During my time at work, I noticed that I skip meals. I skip meals because I feel that I consume a lot of calories when I eat an item from Taco Bell. I believe this because my family says that eating too much food from fast food restaurants is bad for ones health. Also, I noticed that I get fully satisfied when I eat breakfast. When this happens, I tend to skip meals, such as, lunch. Skipping meals is not a healthy choice and I plan to improve this by eating my meals, even if I am not hungry. Consuming food is better than not eating at
The purpose of this assignment is to increase self-awareness of the student by analyzing personal nutritional intake and activity routine throughout the course. In turn, the student will be able to help others modify their diet and activity, and improve overall wellness. An examination of a personal food and activity assessment will provide the student with essential data from which to change their health and wellness behaviors.
In order to study human development and perform naturalistic observation I went to the mall. I selected a 9-year-old white girl as the subject for my observation. I observed the subject for 30 minutes. During my observation the subject was not interrupted and was not aware of my study.
I took this opportunity to understand my unhealthy habits and transform my behavior. In my Wellness Recovery Action Plan, the information brought light to the obstacles and how to overcome issues. After filling out the Schedule of Recent Experience (Wieitan et al., 2009) and Tactics for Coping with Stress (Weitian et al., 2009), it was a shock how much I put my body through. A finalized copy of my results can be observed in Appendix A, and the results of the Schedule of Recent Experience (Weitian et al., 2009) can be viewed in Appendix B. In the outcome, I conducted coping mechanisms such as therapy, exercise, and nutrition. Nutrition has been a challenge as a waitress and full-time student. I am always around food at work that led to overeating.
This paper is going to describe the behavioral and cognitive traits that can be inferred from that behavior of a two year old child that I observed in the park as she was playing with her mother. The child that I observed is a girl, has blonde hair and is physically well-developed for her age. She is around two, weighs approximately twenty (20) pounds and is about two (2) feet tall.
Most of the time I am out of control on my eating. I eat the food that I think is more benefit to me, but really it is not. Since I can journal analysis as a guideline of helping me which kind of food I can eat, I will use it to keep on tract what, why, when I can eat. I will keep on continue to go to the gym daily.
In order to familiarize myself with my eating habits, I have analyzed my diet for seven days. By listing the ingredients in each food item, I have discovered that most of my meals are not nutritious. To understand my recommended daily nutrient needs, I used Canada’s Food Guide to assess my intake. I also listened to “Stuffed” Part One and Two, to help me identify some common dietary issues for Americans. The podcasts shed light on the causes of obesity. From this assignment, I have learned that it is essential to closely monitor what and in which amounts I eat in order to maintain my health.
My eating habits had a change. During the week, I met targets for balanced nutrition and calories. I was monitoring every intake of all foods consumed, where I had to keep a check to consider the amount of portion, and to choose better types of food, to achieve the diet based on 1800 calories. As a result, I reduced high sugar snacks that I regularly consumed after meals, such as cookies, chocolates, or some desserts that contained a lot of flour and sugar. Choose the consumption of fruit or bars with fruit derivatives or granola.
Nutrition has an important role in meeting the body’s physical requirements as well as social, cultural and psychological needs (Holmes, 2011). For many, food is closely related to family and culture (Holmes, 2011). Strong connections exist among memory and emotion in regards to food (Holmes, 2011). Often times, certain rituals involving eating are more meaningful than the food itself (Holmes, 2011). Holmes (2011) suggests, “food may signify prosperity, health, strength, or love, or be seen as a form of sharing and caring, instilling feelings of belonging in the sense of family and social events” (p. 32). Daily activities are usually planned to incorporate meal times (Holmes, 2011). Subsequently, to remove eating out of one’s daily routine can lead to a lack of structure in one’s life. Inability to eat can lead to seclusion from events involving food can lead to feelings of isolation and disconnection from loved ones (Holmes, 2011). Therefore, it is important for one to be able to participate in meals in order to avoid depressive symptoms, which may cause a further decrease in appetite (Holmes, 2011). Nutritional support can relieve symptoms including fatigue, depression, and social detachment, as well as decrease the risk of developing infections and pressure ulcers, among other potential complications (Holmes, 2011). Prevention of malnutrition is easier than reversal (Holmes, 2011). In any case, it is important to respect
After analyzing the three-day food intake, I realized that the healthy diet I thought I have
National Health Service Highland (NHS Highland) is a public sector organisation and is classed as being in the Tertiary Sector as it provides a service to the public rather than producing a tangible product. NHS Highland serves a population of approximately 310,000 residents and provides a wide range of services across the largest land area (~40%) of any health authority in Scotland.
At the age of fourteen, I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) which is an imbalance of reproductive hormones, in short. PCOS makes it very difficult to use insulin to convert carbohydrates into energy. A common characteristic of PCOS is obesity. Even then, eight years ago, I knew I needed to maintain of lifestyle of healthy eating and daily physical activity. But, during a self-assessment period, I realized I would eat unhealthy meals multiple times per week. My choices were your typical “hot and ready” meals, fast-food items, or just unhealthy snacks supplemented for lunch or dinner. With the stresses of school and work, quick-grabs were very convenient and oddly satisfying. These environments not only limited physical activity, but required prolonged sitting. Consequently, a lifestyle of inactivity resulted. I knew that too much stress, too much eating, and not enough exercise would soon lead to a sedentary lifestyle, but I did not have the discipline, interest, or time to make the necessary changes. I thought I reached the point of no return when I began eating just because I had access to it or in response to stress. Guilty and ashamed, I realized I was not eating because I was hungry, but because of stress and availability. Overtime, I recognized I
If I ate more food that was filling and increased my energy I would probably not snack as much. This could include more vegetables like spinach as well as nuts like almonds and peanuts. Nuts are also an excellent source of vitamin E which could help me reach my goals. Furthermore, eating is very closely tied to socializing for me. I often meet people for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, especially when I lived on campus. Unfortunately, now that I live off campus I go out to restaurants far more than I should. Not only am I spending money I could be buying better food with, I am also buying delicious albeit unhealthy meals. I either need to stop going out as much or attempt to find healthy alternatives at restaurants. I think I’ll be able to follow this new plan quite well so long as I take the necessary time to meal prep and focus on reaching my nutrient goals one day at a
My initial goal for observations was to see how peoples body language changed when they saw someone knew, however, on my first day of observations I am noticing that most people walk with their phones in their hands. When people are looking around, and they don’t see someone they know, they are often walking with their heads down, while looking down at their phones, or simply talking on their phones. The people that are talking on their phones, have a comfortable body language and tone. On the other hand, I am noticing two different types of people looking on their phones. Ones who are just scrolling down their emails or social media, constantly looking for something new, and ones who constantly pressing the home bottom looking at an empty screen. One common thing about all the people on the phones, is that they are all looking for a sense of comfort. They’re also looking for something to distract them from making awkward face contact.
Most of the times, the eating habits of people contribute to the ill health leading to loss of memory and concentration. Most of the people because of their busy scheduled life, do not cook food in their home and rely on the food served and made fast. These food items not doubt fills the tummy, but have you ever
Naturally, I found that participant observation and interviews generated different types of information. Participant observation generated information, outlined previously in the essay, that was subjective. Interviews, on the contrary, gave me a relatively in-depth insight into my informants’ lives, these insights will be explained later in the essay. Interviews allowed me to combine my informants’ views with my own academic theories. Having multiple sources of information further allowed me to answer my original question, ‘Are public spaces fully public?’.
