The next question posed to Rene inquired about essential characteristics of a leader. After giving the question some thought she responded by saying that a leader must be able to remain objective and prioritize. “Prioritizing in my job is essential,” Rene stated, “with so many issues to deal with some nights it can be difficult to determine which to tackle first. However, remaining calm and objective in your decision making can help a leader prioritize properly, which can improve patient outcomes.” Additionally, Rene emphasized that the best leaders lead by example. By displaying desired attitudes and behaviors, a nursing leader may inspire their staff to act in a similar manner. Another area Rene stressed when posed this question was a leader’s ability to support learning. She went on to state that “it is necessary to focus on learning, not chastising. Placing the blame on someone rather than stepping back and looking at the details of a problem, deters the team from achieving the overall goal. Incident reports remain vital to the process of learning.” Rene continued to emphasis that by filling out incident reports individuals can analyze a situation or process and determine where the flaws or errors remain present. Without incident reports and learning from mistakes, growth remains difficult. Diana S. Contino (2011), author of “Leadership Competencies: Knowledge, Skills, and Aptitudes Nurses Need to Lead Organizations Effectively,” believes that organizational and

Strong management and leadership is very crucial for business success. It helps in driving innovation, unlocking the potential of employees, as well as enabling the manager to drive growth and productivity. It is never fast, and it is not always simple to build up depth and strength in management or leadership capabilities. However, the possible benefits are vivid: increased performance and profitability, improved rates of survival, and better employee wellbeing and motivation. It is important to keep in mind that entrepreneurs are creative and innovative thinkers who are always passionate about latest ideas (Ellis, 2005). However, in a business, management skills are most essential for creation of a successful business that acts on ideas. Management skills building is an ongoing process. Therefore, as a manger identify various ways of enhancing his or her management or leadership capability, the manager should be cautious not to try changing a lot too fast. Steady, consistent, and gradual building of management skills with one new idea implementation at a time will most likely result to a sustained improvement and change.
Lastly, we felt a very important topic to touch on was tact. Particularly the tone and how one presents themselves when they wish to say something. A leader must be able to differentiate the appropriateness of different tones throughout the day. A leader must know his audience in regards to tone as well, some individuals may take a simple request as off-putting and rude while others will not think of it as a big deal. It is the responsibility of the leader to be able to differentiate how everyone ticks in order to ensure that the required work is completed while maintaining relationships and time constraints. Being in a position of power can generate some negative behavior when it

Leadership is something that we are all born with because we are all born. Therefore, who is a leader and who is not depends on who really wants to be a leader and who does not. Leadership is a skill and so it can be learned. As anything that is learned it demands practice and practice to be the best. It would not be something that will happen in a matter of a day. There are multiple elements that make a leader. Collaboration is a key element for successful teamwork. Therefore, a leader must always be in the look for ways to foster collaboration. Creating trust within the team, support face-to-face collaboration, transfer responsibilities when making decisions, and ultimately teach other how to be leaders. All of this is not done if it is not done from the bottom of your own heart.
The mini lesson will be presented by the teacher orally and supported by a power point presentation that hits on the major points of the topic.
I will demonstrate how to use all the learning materials to show students what is expected of them e.g. I will ask the first question to provoke their critical thinking
Before this class, I had a very primitive and vague definition of leadership. Not only did I define it as per my views and ideologies, but I also said that each individual has their own definition of leadership. My initial belief was that leadership does not have a clear cut definition, but there were well defined leadership traits which made an individual. I also initially believed that personal traits did not translate into leadership traits with no strong correlation. After going through the various modules this class offered, it is safe to say that I have significantly redefined leadership and underwent a strong personal assessment. This paper talks what I took back from each of the class activities, assignments and how my self-assessment compares to the perception of others.
We see leaders around us everywhere. Regardless of what the profession or expertise is, or what sort of an institution there is, leaders are required. There are many leadership characteristics that come into play. In other words, not everyone has what it takes to be a good leader. Surely, in school all of us are taught things like team work and good leadership skills, leadership itself falls under a huge category. There are many models of leadership present that serve to analyze and assess how much of the leadership qualities a person has in them.
