Childcare is not just changing diapers and playing with toys. I know this because I have been working in childcare for over six years. A person wanting to enter the childcare field always has to pass the obvious requirements, a background check, and mental illness check. Before they start there is more they need to know before they are ready to care for a child. Depending on age there is a wide array of subtle clues a childcare personnel must be able to detect. For example, a new born baby will not be able to tell the personnel what is wrong. The baby will just cry and the personnel must be able to figure out what is wrong. After the childcare personnel has gained experience on this they will be able to detect the type of cry and determine what the baby needs. As for toddlers sometimes they have accidents and the personnel will need to know what to look for. Not all kids will tell someone when they need to use the restroom so personnel will look for children hiding in corners or under tables because they often become embarrassed and will not notify anyone of the accident. If the childcare personnel is responsible for several children it makes the situation more severe. Children sometimes carry food in their pockets and will share with others. Therefore, the personnel must keep watch over all children and stay on high alert. My organization has a red band system so the personnel will notice the child has an allergy because they are wearing a red bracelet. That will inform them to check that child’s bag for allergy information and snacks provided by the parents. Even if the childcare personnel is watching only one child it is still necessary to know allergy information in case of an emergency.
