Book Report Frankenstein By Mary Shelley was started when Mary Shelley was only 18 years old and then she finished the book when she was 19. The first edition of frankenstein was published in London in 1818 but was published anonymously. Mary Shelley’s name didn’t appear on the book until it was published a second time in France in 1831. Shelley came up with the idea when she was traveling through Europe in 1814. In germany she was 10 miles away from the Frankenstein castle, where two centuries before, an alchemist was engaged in experiments. His father married a beautiful young women names caroline who’s only wish in life was to have a daughter so she adopted Elizabeth who Victor was told was his precious gift. In life Victor’s father told Victor that some scientific books were trash so of course Victor now wanted to read them which led to him making a monster from dead body parts when he went away to college, there he dug up from the graveyard from recently deceased people and created his monster. The creature was large in stature and very strong compared to the normal human, also covered in a ton of scars from the different parts stitched together, which made him stand out from the average man. Once Victor’s creature came alive Victor was mortified at the sight of it and ran away which led to the monster learning how to read and act by watching other people. He grew to hate Frankenstein and when Victor refused to make him a mate so he wouldn’t be all alone the monster tracked and killed Victor’s new wife and then Victor died trying to kill his creature. Frankenstein is a tragedy; science fiction book but some people also say that it’s a gothic fiction. It’s a tragedy because off all the death and heartache that the book has, its science fiction because of the science behind the fact of bringing the creature alive. Some say the the story is gothic fiction because of how dark the book is saying the ‘dark and stormy night’ and ‘horrid monster’. I personally really liked the book, for some it might be a little too dark but I thought that just made the story good.
