Over the last four decades, as China has transitioned from a socialist centralized economy to a productivity-and-efficiency-oriented market economy, so too have the country’s public and private spheres becoming increasingly differentiated. For many generations, Chinese women have been seen as subordinate and inferior to that of a man. The Chinese workplace has always suffered from inequality, specifically gender inequality. Gender wage gaps and many other kinds of inequality in the workplace are affecting women in China but also all over the world. Women in China are not provided an equal opportunity because of their gender. Women have been thought to be underqualified or less qualified than that of a male co-worker doing the same job, and as a result are paid less, treated unequally, or not even offered a job. Long hours are required by the highest paid occupation making it hard for the females to take on household and family duties. Women feel discriminated against which affects their decisions for an occupation and career because of how society has portrayed them, thus making it hard for women to succeed. Dating back to over 200 years ago women have been extremely challenged by inequality in the workforce in China. The gender pay gap is the difference in pay earned by men and the pay earned by women.( Pay Equity Commission, 2012). There are various ways in measuring the pay gap between genders, such as full- time or full- year wage. Statistics Canada data ( 2012) displayed that the gender pay gap in Ontario was 26% for full- time and full- year employments, which means for every C$1 earned by a man, a woman earned 74 cents( Pay Equity Commission,2012).The pay gap has been narrowing slowly over time compared to the how it was in 1987, which was 36%. However the gender wage gap is still a problem that exists in the society. I will discuss about the feminist theory and how it can be interpreted in the gender pay gap of our society, especially in regards to celebrities.
The reason why I have composed this informative essay on the chosen topic gender inequality: the pay gap is because I thought it’s an important topic to be explored and it ties into economic inequality. With my revisions, I focused on clarifying certain information I put into my essay from other sources so that women could have better explanations on how this information supports the overall paper. What is the root of feminism? There are many things that will anger you in life and getting played less than a man for the same job is one of them. Women are capable of getting a job, but we still fall behind due to unequal wages between women and men for the same duties. Gender inequalities are a huge factor in the workplace. There is a lot of tension when it comes to women being over worked. The amount of responsibilities that women have, from work to home and everything in between, is ridiculous and it is all based on the gender roles that society has developed. Lastly, what really triggers feminism is the world expecting all women to portray themselves as sex objects and then to getting criticized for it. Women are often discriminated in the workplace and are usually not promoted as quickly as men are and they also receive less pay. History shows that women have not always been defined as property and thought of as second class citizens. But in the 21st century many have seen a drastic change in the so called “traditional” family ways where women are suppose to stay home and take care of the household chores, food, and children and men are suppose to work to support their family and provide financial stability. According to the International Trade Union Confederation ever since 1979 the equality gap in pay had gone up, in 2010 women now earned 81% of what male employees earned. That later changed the wage gap opened, woman pay dropped by 46.7 in 2011 and it is not expected go to up until later than 2018. It is an injustice that men get payed more than women when they both have same jobs and same tasks, in some jobs women do a better job at what they do than men, but they don 't notice that.

Women have experienced a historic situation of inequality in the social as well as professional aspects. The United States has always been praised for freedom and equality. However, there is a notable area of inequality in the workforce: the gender pay gap. In the Unites States, a woman makes, on average, a mere 78 cents to the dollar earned by a man. This statistic has remained steady and has only seen a small 18 cent increase in the past few decades. A majority of the wage gap is due to unsound social biases. Because gender inequality in the workforce is fueled by complex factors such as biases, it requires a complex solution. This brings forth a question that needs an answer in order to achieve complete equality: how can the issue of gender in the workplace be resolved? By the breakdown of historical events and documents, the economic analysis of the issue, and the use of education to raise a new generation of unbiased workforce, possible solutions can be composed that could minimize the gap in pay between the genders.
Throughout the years women have made great effort to become equal to men. This effort has led to great advances in the movement, but not all of the problems are solved yet.
