It is difficult to say which goal is more important. I think it is very dependent on the age of the athletes. I think for younger athletes who are still learning, the more important goal should be for personal achievement in development, success, performance, and behavior. The team goals should be acknowledged, but the goals should be within the abilities of the athletes. For older athletes in a more professional setting, I think the overall goal for the team should be the main focus. Again, with personal goals not falling to the side, but with a main focus on team goals. If I had to give up one to achieve the other, I think letting go of the team goals for athletes personal success is more important. Again, this has to do with the team goal
Sport’s are an aspect of life that affect societies across the globe. Athletics affect everyone's life, whether that be playing the sport, watching games, or hearing about a sporting event. There is a big difference between playing an individual sport and players relying on their own athletic abilities versus a team sport when members of the team rely on their teammates to complete each individual's specific responsibility to reach the team's goal. Team sports bring people together in countless ways, and they teach many life skills for the athletes that participate in them. Some of these skills include communication, teamwork, discipline, work ethic, dedication, leadership, and numerous more that will help them in their personal and work
Along with the two short-term goals, the athletes and coaches will adhere to two long-term goals. The first of the two goals is to reestablish a team environment of trust and support for individuals with injuries. Reestablishing this trust and rapport will not happen over night and it will take time to get the entire team out of the habit of thinking taking a rest day is bad. This needs to be maintained and upheld in large part to the coaching staff so as not to revert back into old habits; with leadership and understanding of those that suffer injuries, the athletes will follow suit. To follow this, the teams second long term goal is to reduce the number of overtraining injuries that are sustained. In re-working the culture of the team it
It is my job as a coach to help develop athletes physically, psychologically, and socially while helping them have fun by playing a sport. I will do this by being enthusiastic and having a positive attitude in practice, games, and while not coaching. This cooperative approach to coaching will create a sense of community within the team I coach, and the athletes will feel more welcome to discuss their thoughts, ideas, questions, and concerns with me. Creating this setting and relationships with athletes will only benefit the team by creating a team culture necessary for the well-being and success of high school sports’ teams. Success in sports means accomplishing goals set by the team, not winning. Winning is important, but just striving to win is even more vital toward the success of teams. As a coach, I will also be a motivator for athletes. Athletes will see me come to practice with a positive attitude, displaying my passion. This is the beginning of how I will motivate athletes. Motivation starts with my attitude, and athletes pick up on this. In order to motivate and want to be motivated, there must be a reason, a why? I will use the teams’ goals they will set, in order to motivate them to give their best effort in order to achieve success by reaching their
Another valuable skill learned by kids participating in competitive sports is teamwork. It is important for children to learn the importance of teamwork because most jobs they may have in the future will require them to work well with others. To conclude, athletes spend lots of time and dedication to their sport and should be rewarded for their efforts. Almost all athletes are more focused on sports than their
Throughout my life, I have frequently been a part of a team. Whether it was in an athletic, academic, or employment sense, I have learned many life lessons and values solely because I was a part of these teams. Growing up, I was involved in countless team-based sports in which I had a number of roles. There were times when I had to step up and lead, and times where I had to learn to take a step back and follow. I learned that I was only a small part of the success that happens and that the ultimate goal of the team was
This study focused on the importance of leadership among the athletes themselves, their peer leaders. “The results showed that the majority of team task (65%), social (57%), and external (79%) leaders occupied a formal position on their team.” (Loughead, Hardy, & Eys, 2006, p. 142). These leadership functions have different behavioral characteristics provided to the team members. The task leader helps to focus the team on the goal at hand and helps with decision making within the team. This may be the player on the team who calls the plays, the team captain. The research indicated that it was important for team members to elect their captains and other leaders. The social leader brings cohesiveness and harmony to the team. He encourages and rallies the players to get together and get involved. The final leadership function, external leaders help promote the team in the community and help organize fund raising. In addition, leadership within the team, through peers and other group members was a factor in the overall success of the team. They help foster communication between the coaching staff and the athletes. In addition, “it was hypothesized the longer athletes were members of a team, the more likely they would be identified as a

First thing I had to digest was the power of a team. My view of sports in middle school was a vary individual centralized system. The best thing an athlete could do in my eyes was become the best they could be. Little did I contemplate what a team did. Here, sports team participate in a wide verity of volunteer opportunities and services for the community. We set up and tear down public events, run kids camps, and operate ice cream trucks. With Gus Macker we help stimulate our local economy to untold amounts from tourist traffic. We are able to do this because of the team structure we already have in place.
Level four suggests that goals are achieved by teams. This is done through focusing, unifying, and connecting the vision. In this particular case, Listo Systems’ main aim should be to connect team members with each other as well as with the team’s goals.
