Interestingly, this scenario is becoming more and more prevalent with the actions, and recent violent attacks are occurring worldwide. Further, acts of violence concerning shootings appear to be discussed more often in the media outlets and politics. While numbers and facts continue to be argued between both sides of gun control, the truth remains, the figures and facts can be woven and molded to back either side. Unfortunately, this is a terrible flaw with facts, graphs, patterns as people who understand how to manipulate the numbers are usually able to manipulate the story people hear. Betty Smith is in a difficult position where law and facts easily clash with emotions and belief regarding guns in the workplace.
First, regardless of anyone’s personal belief on the subject, we must all abide and respect the laws which govern us. By no means am I saying we have to agree with the laws, only that as a citizen of a governed nation laws must be followed and respected. With that said, the most important answers for Mrs. Smith is to learn and understand the federal and state laws concerning both employers and employee’s rights regarding concealed weapons. Due to this complicated issue, I would recommend that Betty seeks legal advice before discussing the problem with her SPHR friend. Once Mrs. Smith is

Companies need to address what security concerns are present and the threat level of their environment. Hiring an unarmed security guard may save money over hiring an armed guard. However, it may not be the right solution to the potential problems. Criminals will be less deterred from unarmed guards, especially if the business deals with valuable goods. Another issue could arise from an active shooter scenario at a business with an unarmed guard, where the guard does not have the means to protect employees and perhaps become an additional target of
In areas where crime is high, guns can keep law-abiding citizens safe. As stated by
There are gun control laws to try and reduce the number of violent shootings that occur. They are trying to put limits on weapons that Americans can own. The government is trying to take our guns away mainly because of people that are criminally insane. Most of the people who commit crimes don’t even have the weapons legally. If the government takes away the rights of people who are allowed to have firearms in their possession, it will most definitely cause an outrage. Most people believe that the people should be more capable of maintain proper use of the firearms instead of having them all taken away. Taking the firearms from Americans away would cause a lot more problems than there actually are. The people will be upset with the
Taya Kyle, the author of the article “American Sniper Widow: Gun Control Won’t Protect Us”, believes that there are two sides of the argument on gun control. People can use statistics, facts, and real life examples to argue that there should be stricter control of guns in the US, but they cannot eliminate the emotional side of the story. While in the last two decades, violent crime rates have actually been reduced in the US, fears have gone up. Anyone can be a victim of a violent crime because if another person decides to do harm, they will do it under any circumstances.
News is all around us and is readily available to everyone. There are many flaws in the system that hurts the authenticity of the news when you see it. The media is indirectly part of the political system. Most news is either considered liberal or conservative by many.
Gun control in the United States has been a controversial issue for some time now. So much so that the Supreme Court even refuses to address this issue directly. Gun control really boils down to the the Second Amendment of the Constitution. Many people have different interpretations of the Second Amendment and the trenches are dug in deep on this issue. The Second Amendment can not provide the right to bear all types of arms to protect the people from governmental tyranny. If the Second Amendment was absolute, then we would allow the public to possess nuclear weapons, missiles, and other such arms, because like the 9 mm handgun that is an arm, a nuclear warhead is also a type of arm. The more our government restricts our rights to own
President obama said at a press conference on October 01, 2015 “The solution to such violence is obvious. It cannot be this easy for somebody who wants to inflict harm on other people to get his or her hands on a gun.” (Simple Minded Gun Control). Gun control is a controversial issue worldwide. The reason why this has attracted so much attention is because not everyone is in favor of gun control and each side brings up excellent points about the issue. Research related to this issue strongly supports the claim that there SHOULD be more gun control laws. Three arguments that prove this position are (1) Incidents like Sandy Hook will be less likely to occur (2) It reduces the high rates of accidental deaths (3) As the years pass by and technology updates the laws should be up to date as well. Members from the National Rifles Association state that No law-abiding American should be forced to face evil with empty hands. I say I agree with President Obama there SHOULD be more gun control laws because it should not be as easy as it is for someone who wants to inflict harm on others to get their hands on a weapon.
School shootings, gang violence, drive by shootings, murder, and thousands of acts of violence are committed every day. Members of our society criticize their own people for this violence while they continue to sit back and do nothing about it. These acts of violence have many contributing factors. Violence in our country today is escalating because we don't control the distribution of the guns sold. There are not enough restrictions on guns sold legally. The illegal purchase of guns through the black market is out of control. There is not enough education on the usage and storage of guns.
Criminals are provoked by self-protection and guns can thus be a disincentive. A majority of convicted American criminals have reported that they fear from attacking the victims who are armed. Their fear of encountering armed victims surpasses their fear of being caught by police (Lott, pp.05). Robbers do not attempt to break into houses after midnight because of the probability of being shot. Thus, society should be against gun control because crimes will decrease.
The Second Amendment of The United States Constitution states, “[a] well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed."
Everyday, the biased news media reports another mass shooting. The media reports the cases of “police brutality” and the media reports the tragic accidents. The media doesn’t report the research by David Burnett and Clayton Cramer who track incidents of defensive gun use. The stories include women fighting off would be rapists and senior citizens protecting themselves from robbers. They are stories that prevent violent crimes from occurring, for they are stories that save lives.
The Second Amendment to the Constitution was adopted on December 15, 1791 protects the right for people to “keep and bear arms.” This issue is always a controversial topic not only around election time but becoming more and more a subject for conversation everywhere we go. Gun ownership in the U.S. has a tremendous high rate as well as gun violence. At least 270 million firearms are owned by Americans and found in 47% of homes. In 2015, an estimated 13,286 people were killed by guns and 26,819 injured. When it comes to the workplace, roughly 2 million employees are affected by some form of work place violence and is not always about work. Two-thirds of homicides in the U.S. are a result of personal relationship problems.
Statistics on an issue such as gun control are not hard to come by. The numbers seem to sway in the favor of gun control being ineffective against the epidemic of gun violence that is facing this nation today. There is evidence to support that many guns used for illegal activities are obtained by illegal means anyway, making laws to restrict the purchase of said guns ineffective at keeping firearms out of criminals hands. Evidence also supports the statements that guns are used in defense more often than not, that the age old statistic that “13” children die each day by guns is inaccurate, and that there are numbers that show the direct relationship between the loosening of gun laws and the lowering of the crime rate.
Concealed weapons can make society safe, for example if someone breaks into another person’s house and that person is unarmed, the person who broke in could harm and take valuable possessions, whereas a person who is armed can defend their home and ward off burglars. F. The protection of home with a concealed weapon is an effective way to keep home invaders away, and it is a lot cheaper than a home security system. G. In Georgia there was a woman sitting her attic with her two children, while her husband was on the phone with her and a 911 dispatcher (He had two phones). There was a home invader with a crowbar in the couple’s house. The husband told his wife “Melinda, if he opens the door you shoot the gun”. Melinda was holding a loaded six-shot revolver. Suddenly the man, opened the door and found the woman and her children and as soon as he went to raise the crowbar to strike the woman, Melinda fired off shots into the man’s chest. H. Walton County Sheriff, Joe Chapman responded to the shooting and said that the incident was a life and Death situation and that the family had no other choice but to exercise her Second Amendment Right. I. Yes, Melinda had intent to harm this man, J. but the man was armed and was trespassing in her home with her two children. He also had intent to harm or even murder the woman and her two children. K. This woman was a perfect example of how firearms can be used in situations where there is danger
Some people like to shoot guns for hunting, some like to shoot them for recreation. Whatever the reason, when using guns, there are steps you need to take to be safe, whether shooting or storing them.
Living a life in America, we all get to have all the rights that included in the Constitution. One of those was the Second Amendment which is the rights to bear arm, the purpose was to protect ourselves from danger but nowadays a lot of people have take advantage of it and use it in the wrong way. I believe our government need to have a strict limit on guns possession.
