 INTRODUCTION This assignment will focus on one of the extremely important topics of the many hazards in the healthcare work place that may pose as a threat to my health and safety in the Care Industry. According to Lowry (2014) it is vital to “know the emergency plans and evacuation procedures”. It is therefore also important to remember to ensure that all smoke alarms are regularly checked and that all corridors and doorways are kept clear of unnecessary obstruction at all times. 3. SLIPS TRIPS AND FALLS This is one of the most common hazards that I may come across as a healthcare assistant. The International Hazards Datasheets on Occupation states that “slips, trips and falls on wet floors and in particular during emergency situations is a hazard faced by employees in the healthcare industry”. I personally am of the opinion that it is my responsibility to ensure that: a) I am wearing the correct required footwear b) The floor areas are kept free from obstruction of any kind c) The floor areas are kept dry and free from spillages d) All possible loose wiring and flexes should be accounted for. I believe that following these guidelines can decrease the risk of injury or hard to myself and others within the immediate vicinity. 4. SHIFT WORK It is my opinion that shift work is another potential hazard to me as an employee in the Healthcare Industry. It is my belief that employees on nightshift work or those working irregular hours may be more susceptible to errors and accidents, mainly due to fatigue or
