Hillary Clinton is an American politician who is currently the leading presidential candidate for the Democratic Party. She made her mark in the political world as First Lady of the United States as the wife of Bill Clinton. Since her time in the White House, she was elected as the first woman Senator of New York and recently served as Secretary of State for the Obama administration in 2009. She ran for the democratic nomination in the 2008 presidential election however; she lost the nomination to current President Barack Obama. But even as a feminist, why was it that the woman was victimized and why did Hillary not stand up to her husband? With such a long history of both Hillary and Bill’s involvement in the government, perhaps if a new candidate ran for president, America would be more inclined to vote for a fresh face, thus leading to her potential defeat in the next
When Clinton discussed her experience as a First Lady, the expected tone would have been very motherly, and of someone that is in the background. As was observed, it was the opposite. When Clinton spoke of her time as First Lady while her husband Bill Clinton was in office, she spoke up on important issues such as feminism, and did not blend into the background, as she wanted to be a leader and inspire other women to do the same. A prime example of this is when Clinton attended the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, China and delivered a speech that changed the world and women’s rights. Clinton said during her speech at the Fourth World Conference, “let it be that human rights are women’s rights are human rights, once and for all”
