How Technology Has Changed Our Lives

In an ever-changing society, there is always pressure to accomplish tasks faster. People every day seek to make their lives simpler, live more efficiently, and in turn get more out of the day. Such emerging technologies have helped us make things easier on us in everyday life. When is the last time you saw an infomercial and thought hey I could use that? Consequently, communication has changed and is constantly changing, accelerating the world around us. Just think about how far we have come, and has ever-changed our pace of life. Technology is fueling our way of life, making everyday tasks faster and easier to do. In turn, this gives us more time to do more with the time in the day.

I think that new technology needs to be prevalent in our daily lives. Modern medicine has made so many advancements because of new technology. I do think in our daily, personal lives, that we are way too dependent, but with new technology, it can help save lives or make better structures, we need to be dependent on advancements. People have become addicted to the phones or tablets. They cannot socialize without constantly looking down at their phone. Some even use their cell phones in inappropriate places or times. Everything around a cell phone user, seems to be invisible to them. They do not seem to have time for others.

Technology is defined as machinery and equipment developed from the application of scientific knowledge. Its original use was meant solely for the service of humans, however overtime it has evolved into something much different. What was originally meant to be an assisting piece of machinery has changed almost every aspect of our culture. The way we think, communicate, lie, and even love has been impacted by the use of technology, and all of this is has made for interesting pieces of literature. In pieces such as Her and I, Robot, we see the evolution of robots and artificial intelligence into a more empathetic and humanlike creatures. This gradual change in our views of robots overtime speaks volumes to the evolution of technology. Technology in literature has become a reflection of human beings themselves, mirroring the very qualities of ourselves that make us human. By looking at the personality that technology takes on in literature, we can greater understand the aspects of ourselves that truly make us human.

Over the last 20 years, Information Technology has invaded our lives in so many ways that we never predicted or even imagined. We have watched in awe as we have gained the ability to stand in the store and pay our bill using our smartphone, or sit in our homes in our pajamas as we order on-line using our computers. Our cars operate with computers that can manage our fuel and performance, it alerts us when our tire pressure is low or we need gas. Our children go to school and work at their own pace with computer tools creating amazing educational projects. With time the mind has expanded and has created things our society could have never imagined were possible. In the last century technology has flourished due the changes in the way the mind works. These new technological inventions have proved to be very helpful in day-to-day basis. Children utilize computers, cell phones, and television to their learning advantage. The way children are developing is very different than children of past generations because of the new technology they are growing up with (Taylor). As the use of technology increases amongst all age groups, there is evidence that shows it impacts children intellectually and socially.

Then there is the cost factor, to be able to use this software; you must first switch all medical records to a digital system. This appears to be so costly that the government offers incentive money to meaningful users of the electronic patient e-file. Then there is the issue of, what if the system goes down at a critical time in patient care? If there is no hard copy to fall back on how will that affect the outcome? Lastly, there is the possibility of a data breach this could cost thousands in legal fees (Khazan, n.d.)

Imagine living inside an invisible bubble, secluded from the outside world. You can see the surrounding environment, but there is a clear barrier that obstructs you from your family, your friends; the world even. As you would assume, communicating could get a little hard in this bubble. Although that analogy may seem a bit dramatic, there’s no denying that over the course of time, technology has made its mark on society in many different aspects of life, communication being one of them. So when asked to spend twenty-four hours without social media, you can imagine how frustrating it was as a creature of habit being unable to utilize the websites and apps that I would normally use on a daily basis. In turn, I was very inattentive throughout the day, as I couldn’t listen to study music or keep myself entertained, I was unable to communicate with my family, and I wasn’t very productive.

Stepping in to the 21st century, technology is said to have taken over many of our lives. Technology is now part of our daily routine and without it, our lives won’t be as convenient and easy as it is. In this story Alone Together by Sherry Turkle, technology is seen to have built a relationship between humans and robots. Turkle goes on explaining how dependent humans are towards technology. Turkle questions the substitution of technology towards humans and how this substitution possesses the qualities of a real being. I grew up in a world where 10-year-olds get their first smartphone and where babies are exposed to the Internet immediately through YouTube videos of Sesame Street or Baby Mozart Music. The Internet has become more than just a luxury but a necessity. It has become second nature to us all. When we cannot think of a word, we search for it on Google. When we need to find the fastest route back home, we look to our smartphones. When I was only six years old, I began writing poetry and sharing it online on a blog. Since then, blogging has become the norm. The Internet has become an integral part of people 's day to day lives. Not only has technology evolved, but people have evolved along with it.

Technology, the most common thing in our everyday lives. Look around, just about everything that surrounds us involves some sort of technology. Technology has revolutionized greatly throughout the years. Every year technology advances more and more. It has become a great asset in our lives. Technology has facilitated communication, created convenience, and help innovated inventions.

Every major holiday like Christmas, Easter, and Thanksgiving, my family gets together. Like a majority of families do. Growing up we would play games and tell jokes, and have a lot of fun with each other, but now, we barley even talk. It’s not because we don’t like each other it’s because of phones. If we are sitting in the living room we aren’t talking and it’s just awkward. I have 2 cousins that are younger than 2, and they are growing up attached to a screen, they are just waiting for a phone to be handed to them, or cartoons to be turned on to watch, they are growing up in a tech filled world, and I’m afraid that they’re just going to be attached to a phone just like everyone else is. . Generation Z is being raised in a world where their eyes are instantly attracted to a screen. They’re not going to know what it’s like to go outside and make up their own games, to have an imagination. This day in age their imaginations are handed to them. We are so worried about what’s happening on facebook or twitter we don’t know what’s going on around us.

Throughout the existence of humanity, technology has evolved with us. Introducing itself primitively with rocks and sticks to compensate for what our hands were not able to do, and ultimately progressing into computers and smartphones to accomplish much more intricate tasks. These devices are now at our disposal, being seen in almost every household and every pocket in the world, but how much does technology actually affect us in our everyday lives? It could be more poignant than most may think. A theory is being considered that technology could be characterized as part of the human genome. If this theory holds true, then it could be understood that technology will continue to evolve with us and benefit us as it has. A way to envision this is to consider what a spider’s web is to a spider; it is constructed and appropriated by the spider for it to survive their ecosystem. Technology functions in almost the same way for human beings; not just for them endure the elements, but to thrive and prosper as the dominant species of our planet. Growing up in a low income family was miserable. The small two story six-hundred square foot house was home to four families which consisted of father, mother, son or daughter. There were no English speakers in the house except for my sister and I. Cartoon Network was the most popular network and I was finally able to watch it for the first time. Some words were still not being processed in my brain but I started understanding how they were used. When I was able to use a computer it was like opening my mind to how modern technology impacts our lives. That’s when my fascination for technology grew. I wanted to believed there was more that we could do with technology. Zoids, Gundam, and Pacific Rim showed me how much dedication people put into these great creations and I believed in myself to hopefully one day make these creations from dream to reality. I watched how these robots helped people they were seen as modern marvels and the pilots of these suits are seen as heroes.

Technology affects our lives in a major way. It is hard to go anywhere and not see the changes technology has bought to people now in year 2015. It is hard to even imagine life without technology. It is hard to imagine life without technology because whether it has been in its simplest form technological advances have been being introduced to humanity since the invention of the wheel. Today technology has helped us save time and helps those who use it to complete tasks easier and more efficiently. And saving time and being able to complete task more efficiently is paramount in today’s society where being able to operate as lean as possible is a major priority, if not the top priority. Technology is one of the major reasons businesses, both small and large, can function as well as they do in a rapid and agile manner. Just think about how technology affects many jobs today compared to one-hundred years ago, and not even that long ago, maybe even thirty years ago.
