Key planning through such tools as the Greer Community Master Plan and monitoring progress through the National Citizen Survey have proven to be effective as the City of Greer works to improve not only infrastructure but also the quality of life for residents. National Research Center, Inc. (NRC) has validated the effectiveness of those planning efforts, naming the City of Greer as winner of the 2016 Voice of the People Award for Transformation in Foundations of Livability. The award is presented only to jurisdictions that best listen and act to improve their communities. Our goal is to see continued improvement when we survey citizens in 2019.” The Voice of the People Awards are presented by the International City/County Management Association and National Research Center, Inc. Assistant City Administrator Mike Sell accepted the city’s award at the 102nd annual ICMA conference in Kansas City, Mo.

With hope that the document is never required, the City of Greer and All Clear Emergency Management Group of Raleigh, N.C., opened a proof of the city’s updated hazard mitigation plan for public comment. The document is important to all residents in the City of Greer because it is designed to reduce loss of life and property by lessening the impact of disasters. As stated in the draft’s introduction: In order to minimize the impact of hazard events on the City of Greer, the city must assess its vulnerability to man-made and natural hazard events, determine what resources it has available to dedicate towards hazard mitigation, and establish and carry out the specific steps which will reduce the city’s vulnerabilities.
