Leadership Qualities
Often times in an organization, leaders or managers tend to just want to complete an assignment or task without thinking about the positive or negative side effects that will have an impact on the product or individuals involved. The assignment may get completed, but not every individual has a clear understanding of their role. The work and attitude of an inspiring leader is contagious amongst others and has a great impact on an organization. Motivated employees will keep productivity at a very high quality because they have the confidence that their work will produce results. Committed employees enjoy coming to work each day and a large part of that is because of the leaders inspiration they have for them. These employees have clear direction and know that the leader will listen to their ideas and take them seriously.
Inspirational leaders provide their employees with a clear sight of what needs to be accomplished by engaging in the work and setting the example. They will allow their employees to ask questions and give feedback to create powerful communication in the organization. These leaders will not just sit back and tell others what to do, they stay involved and provide greater opportunities for everybody. Inspirational leaders are committed to an organization by allowing collaboration and innovation that motivates everybody to deliver the exceptional skills they possess.
Honesty
An honest leader earns credibility. Honesty is a common trait that a leader must possess to become successful and earn credibility with their constituents. An employee isn’t going to follow the example of a leader they don’t feel is honest, they are going to follow a leader that has earned trust and respect through honesty.
To me “Leadership means leading people for positive outcomes”. An effective leader may have many aspects but the relationship that exists between a leader and their followers is one of the most important aspects of leadership which can determine the success quotient in any organization.
According to Sullivan and Decker a leader influences others to accomplish the vision. A leader develops the ability to do backwards planning. The leader knows where he wants to go, so decides how long it will take and the process to arrive there. Effective leaders know and understand their organization and continue to ask how we can do things better (Sullivan & Decker, 2009).
A motivated leader has clear vision of what he wants to achieve. Many people like seeing a motivated leader because they know that motivation is one of the main reasons why people succeed. An example of a motivated leader can be found on page 10 in the reading “Leading With The Heart”. The quote states “I also told the team that one of your goals for the year would be to play hard all the time. You don’t wear that Duke uniform and you don’t cross those lines on the court unless you’re going to play hard together.”
After observing the three video clips what appealed to one’s interest was the importance of an effective leader. Leadership is defined as the ability to direct individuals from an organization to achieve a common goal. A leader does not use the power of their title, or generate more followers to the group. An effective leader empowers others, in addition to teaching and showing the way to a business objective.
Successful leadership is the ability to channel and coordinate the energy of the group to attain the desired goals of the business. It is the capacity to motivate and inspire followers to go beyond the distance of their perceived limitations, to rise to the challenges of the task at hand, and to seek out innovative and novel solutions. In a word, success leadership is empowering. As Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “A good leader inspires people to have
Leaders not only contribute to the organization as normal members, but they must cautiously make decisions with their subordinates in mind; this makes leadership a selfless act. Leaders must also represent the goals of the organization through their actions. In addition, leaders must be able to orchestrate good communication, as it is healthy for the organization and
Intellectual stimulation encourages followers to challenge processes and the status quo (Alyn, n.d.). They are equipped to do this through training and other tools required through the problem-solving process (Alyn, n.d.). This empowers the individual to make decisions on their own. This skill is particularly important for firefighters who may not have the luxury to turn to a leader during critical moments of incident response. Lastly, inspirational motivation is the degree to which a leader articulates a vision that is appealing to subordinates and inspires them in a positive way about future goals, and tasks (Ifeanyi and Odumeru, 2013).
Leaders are the people who sets a clear vision of the company/organisation which guides employees through the work process. To guide the employees to move forward the leader must have ability to builds morale by influencing employees to understand and accept the future state of the organisation. Motivating employees is also a responsibility of leaders by trusting them and be a trustable leader finding out enough about the needs and wants of employees, giving them what they and providing praise for a job well done is the main source of motivating each another. Guiding employees by providing them to define their role in the work process with the tools needed to perform and participate in their efforts along the way. The leadership is the person that just doesn’t look after the company but also gives motivation each team members and leads to the setting goal by giving specific task knowledge and skills (if needed) and gives each individual/ team member their performance feedback so they have motivation and do the right thing and feedback helps to solve the problem with
Leadership is all about delegating and motivating members your team to achieve the goals of the organization. Communication, planning, and the ability to provide support for the team to function is a key ingredient for effective leadership.
An effective leader makes change happen. They have the ability to influence their followers and accomplish the objectives of a group. According to chemers (2007). Leadership roles dwell on the ability of an individual to lead others, and for this reason, a leader must adopt effective characteristics to ensure that his or her style of leadership is effective. Different leaders carry out different leadership functions based on their effectively. This ensures that a group can attain their goals under the said leadership. Stephan Covey, the author of a well-known book that talks about the Habits of Effective People, said that leadership begins with a desire to attain a certain goal then commitment in the sad desire. Leadership includes various attitudes, values and mindsets which can expedite commitment and transformation (Vugt & Ahuja 2011). Effective leadership start by creating a vision and goals for his group. A leader is then capable of making this vision or goal come true.
Organizations depend on the management and leadership skills of individuals in order to be successful. Leaders do not have to be managers but are equally important. Leaders are individuals who possess traits, behavior and abilities to influence others to accomplish tasks and other needed objectives for the company. Leadership is defined as “the ability of an individual to influence, motivate, and enable others to contribute toward the effectiveness and success of the organization. . . .” (House et al., 1999, pg. 184).
Leaders who have good skills in directing and motivating people know how to interact with staff in ways that motivate them. They delegate to employees effectively,
“Leadership is inspiring others to pursue your vision within the parameters you set, to the extent that it becomes a shared effort, a shared vision, and a shared success. (Steve Zeitchik, CEO of Focal Point Strategies.)
Inspiration is one of the key factors used by the leaders to motivate the employees. The book "Start With Why" explains that leaders who have the capability to lead has capabilities into them naturally. They have the confidence in themselves which they show in front of the world. Many people come forward as a leader, but only few of them can lead and show others the right path.
For every organization to succeed in today business world, good and effective Leadership plays a strategic role in driving an organization into the future.
