When it comes to understanding the process of legislative health policy in the United States we first need to understand what is a health policy. To create a successful health care system many rules and regulations have to take place. When those have taken place it is forms the health policy. It outlines priorities and the expected roles of different groups; and it builds consensus and informs people (Healthy Policy, 2017). The health policy is an intricate method created by the United States. This policy involves two sectors: private and public. A private sector is an organization or business that is ran by a non-governmental group. An example of a private sector is a non-profit group. The public sector is just the opposite of a private sector. It is a division of organizations that are run by the government. A great example of a private sector would be a school. Several features characterize US health policy, including government as subsidiary to the private sector; fragmented, incremental, and piecemeal reform; pluralistic politics associated with demanders and suppliers of policy; decentralized role of the states; and impact of presidential leadership (Shi and Singh, 2015, pg. 513). There are three main critical health policy issues that are paid close attention to. Those are access to care, cost of care, and quality of care. Access to care is all about the idea of having equality for Americans to receive health care. No matter what the level or type all healthcare should be available. Also every individual no matter what type of insurance should also have access to care. Within the idea of access of care American citizens no matter their age, social status, location, and income should all have equal access to health
