An ideology as defined by Merriam-Webster is “a systematic body of concepts especially about human life or culture.” This specifically does not relate to politics, but when applied it means a body of concepts that define a country's goals and views of citizenry. All ideologies; religion, communism, socialism, and liberalism have varying traits and goals led by their governments. When it comes to political ideology, liberalism is most consistent with my personal beliefs. Liberals have a high regard for individuals living freely, being happy, and making personal choices without the government involvement (Ruth, 2016). A large believe of liberal is that government should exist for judicial, military, and protection of people. Government should be smaller in some ways and too much political power can cause greater harm than good (Murphy, 2016). Government plays a significant role in everyday life beyond judicial system control. Some of the involvement is good, others not so much.

Libertarian ideology aims for a balance of social and economic policy. They see that one is not more important that the other. However, their main focal point is that the government should have minimal control over the daily lives of people. Individuals should have maximum personal liberty to self-govern their own lives. Examples of libertarian policy include: non-interventionism when dealing with other nations, indifference about same sex marriage and abortion because government should not interfere in the lives of private citizens, and being anti-tax as they believe individuals should pay for services privately rather than the government collecting taxes and distributing those funds.
