The steps that I took to review my rough draft for logical fallacies, citation errors, and plagiarism are:
Step one. I reread my research to make sure that my thesis and the topic sentence relates to each other. Provide a good thesis and introduction that states what the research is going to be about. Properly introduce the topics sentence and provide the readers my opinion about my research.
Step two: I verify to see if I provided enough evidence to support my argument.
Step three: I make sure that all the references were cited properly. I used the Ashford writing center to help me with paraphrasing, incorporating quotes, and to avoid plagiarism.

How I plan to avoid plagiarism is being able to know when and how to paraphrase, cite quotes, quote, cite, reference and use my own words in my essay will allow me to not plagiarize my papers. The Short Assignment 3 – Plagiarism Synthesis does an excellent job of showcasing how effective using sources can be. After this assignment, I truly have a newly discovered appreciation for using sources in my writing! I had a lot of fun writing this paper, mainly because I felt very rebellious, but also because it turned out exactly how I envisioned it, which was quite satisfying. What better way to make a statement about plagiarism by plagiarizing your essay on the topic, as well as using sources that do the exact same thing? In order to successfully execute my creative vision, I had to make sure I really understood the two texts that I was pulling quotes from, and how they differed from each other. I then went through both Lethem’s and Shields’ essays and highlighted anything that stood out to me as important or interesting. As I began writing my paper, I tried to find gaps that I could fill with a highlighted fragment from one or both texts that incorporated well into the current thought I was trying to communicate. Reading through my paper now, it’s pretty difficult to separate the parts that came directly from me, and the ones that I acquired from the texts. I am including an introduction with a thesis statement, body paragraphs and a conclusion. I carefully evaluate my resources, as I research the points to consider, and I am also considering my audience. I review my papers for spelling, grammar and citations. I have studied the MLA citing and formatting guidelines. My recent essays have included actual quotes in the essays, some direct and some indirect, and I’ve also used other sources aside from the web further practicing the MLA guidelines.
I read my chosen article thoroughly and highlighted the important material, figures, and dates. I used paraphrasing by writing significant information in my own words. Paraphrasing is expressing ideas read by an individual in their own writing [4]. To successfully complete writing my Précis, I researched in depth to find out what a precis is and how it is written. The next step was to start writing my Précis and referencing it as I went along to acknowledge the concept of my article using the IEEE referencing system. I used Turnitin to check if I have plagiarized. Turnitin is a software that checks for duplicate material. It compares the student's piece of writing with some sources that have already been stored in its system to find similarity between the source and the students writing. Turnitin was extremely beneficial as it displayed how much of my precis was similar to the article to allow me to reduce some similarities and preclude plagiarism. In the beginning, Turnitin gave me a result of 21% similarity. I was extremely unhappy with the result and rectified my Précis and later got 6% similarity. Turnitin has definitely helped me to understand the importance of plagiarism. There were certain aspects of my Précis that I can improve. Once such aspect is a lack of sources used. As I was instructed to use one article, I was lenient on that particular source. To sum up,

In colloquial language plagiarism is the concept of stealing someone’s piece of work or someone’s idea. It is clear that plagiarising is unjust and immoral, however now a days it is becoming more difficult to come up with original ideas as the media allows students to have open access to all information and the producer or author must be very careful to not use somebody else’s work unintentionally and claim it as theirs. It is important to educate students about plagiarism as it can carry major consequences.
