Due to that most women will use eyeshadow, mascara, foundation, etc to make themselves feel better than they did without makeup. Popular brands such as MAC, L'Oreal, Estee Lauder, OPI, Covergirl, Sephora’s House Collection, etc. still use animal testing. Those who use and buy from these products are contributing to the abuse of animals (“Brands That Test on Animals.” There are many ways that companies inflict pain on their testing subjects such as; chemicals being shoved down the creatures’ throats, being dropped into their eyes, even onto their shaven skin to test for a reaction (Humane Society International.) Many animals have to come into the cruel fate of being tested for the fatal dose, where the animal is forced to swallow massive amounts of chemicals to determine the lethal dose. The test conducted can cause pain and distress but also; blindness, swollen eyes, sore bleeding skin, internal bleeding, organ failure, birth defects, convulsion, and even death (Human Society International.) On the label of these well known products it states how they do test on animals and many women will tend to overlook that do to the name brand or celebrity that endorses the product. Over 100,000 to 200,000 animals such as rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, mice, and rats suffer every year (Human Society International.) Animal testing records can be accessed by anyone, and many companies are open about the cruel punishments that inflicted. Yet, MAC ends up being one of the …show more content…
Famous beauty guru’s like Jeffree Star and Youtube sensation Grav3yardGirl, both have released videos of them using a certain brand of lipsticks because, their fellow vloggers have used those exact same products. A new trend in the makeup world is to find dupes, a look-a-like shade of a lipstick or eyeshadow from a cheaper brand. Kylie Jenner cosmetics has become one of the most famous makeup companies around, due to the fact that when the 18 year old restocks her products they sell out in a matter of hours. Many people have released the dupes for the reality star’s 22 or Mary Jo that are significantly cheaper. Despite that, there are liquid lipsticks of Kylie’s that sell for thousands of dollars on Ebay. The reasoning for that could be that Jenner’s products are absolutely amazing but also, it could be because her name is on the product. Kylie’s liquid lipsticks sell for around $20 not including shipping and handling for a tiny tube of lipstick and a lip liner pencil. Another house name brand charges an arm and a leg for their products; Urban Decay. The company has had numerous collaborations with Gwen Stefani and even Disney for the ‘Alice Through the Looking Glass’ eyeshadow pallet that was released a few weeks before the new installment hit theaters. The Alice in Wonderland pallet is sold for $64 (Ulta Beauty.) And they have sold over hundreds of the pallets. At $64 a
Are you interested in makeup? You’re really good at it or even don't know much about it but want to learn and/or extend your education in the makeup industry? Makeup is like a different type of art. Imagine being born, only to live a life of torture. You are brought to a lab, and cruelly tested on against your will. Toxins poured into your eyes, painful injections to your skin, then left to die when you’re no longer useful. Although many do not realize it, people use products tested on animals in their everyday lives. For girls, many of your favorite makeup brands, such as Estee Lauder, Makeup Forever, and Maybelline take part in animal testing. Products such as toothpaste, cologne, deodorant, laundry detergent, razors, and even band-aids aren’t tested innocently, either. As a makeup enthusiast, I am passionate about how the products I use daily are tested. Today I will help you understand what animal testing is and how it started, how it’s currently affecting animals around the world, and what organizations are doing to help make a difference in the future. To begin, I will explain the history of animal testing. An animal test is any scientific experiment or test in which a live animal is forced to undergo something that is likely to cause them pain, suffering, distress, or lasting harm.(https://www.crueltyfreeinternational.org/why-we-do-it/what-animal-testing) Animal experiments are not the same as taking your animal to the vet. Animals used in laboratories are harmed, not for their own good, and usually killed at the end of an experiment. Animal experiments include injecting or force feeding animals with potentially harmful substances, exposing animals to radiation,
Makeup: a cosmetic used to make women feel confident. As so it seems right? Covergirl, one of the top selling makeup companies, advertises this idea to both young and older women. Covergirl has been using advertisements to assist in selling their makeup products since 1960. Many women struggle with self-confidence and self-image. Makeup is a quick and effective way to help a woman make her feel temporarily beautiful. The main point of each Covergirl advertisement is to encourage that the use of Covergirl makeup will make women feel beautiful or confident. Ann Marie Britton (2012) stated “By placing photo-shopped and computer-enhanced models in advertisements, society has built up impossible standards of beauty, which has led to feelings of inadequacy among women.” (p. 2)
Because the creams and powders come in dainty cases and tubes with different brushes, makeup can be applied in a certain way with certain tastes and styles. As an instance of this, each Sunday morning, when I prepare for churchgoing, my makeup bag appears on my dresser, ready to add some flare to my features. Usually, I prefer a natural, fresh look: a bit of length added to my eyelashes, a creamy colored eyeshadow, brushed on with a light hand, and a small amount of facial highlighting. There does, however, come a time when I feel a bit more daring. The makeup bag, once again, appears. Occasionally, I enjoy adding petite eyeliner wings to frame my brown eyes, darker shades of eyeshadow, and a swipe of dramatic burgundy lipstick for a more distinguished pop. Taylor Swift's red lipstick could serve as another example; It has become her own iconic symbol. Several of her songs, both in videos and lyrics, sing of how she has “got that red lip classic.” In a way, this crimson hue packs a punch, announcing Swift's strength and independence. Not only can makeup be used to state confidence, but also as a this-is-me

Makeup has been a part of American society for hundreds of years, yet its popularity has increased notably over the last two centuries. The makeup industry today is worth billions of dollars; therefore, it stands as a widely recognized and successful business. Its prevalence has led to the development of all kinds of products which target to a wide audience. Cosmetics are so popular that most Americans encounter them in one form or another every day. On a daily basis, people will interact with someone who wears makeup, see ads related to makeup products, encounter these products while shopping, or wear makeup themselves. As a result, makeup may seem ordinary and unimportant; however, close evaluation of its presence in the lives of Americans
“As a society, we seem unable to decide whether true self-esteem lies in accepting one’s lumps and rolls or in managing to achieve the discipline it takes to get rid of them” (Brand, 2000, p. 31). It states that achieving the true self esteem or to gain reasons to make your self-esteem higher, people will decide if they will accept all your flaws as a person to be comfortable in everything you’ll do or in the opposite way you have to do something to make them feel you deserve to exist and you deserve to be confident. This is where make-ups or cosmetics entered the life of a woman as the majority of people define beauty in the outside appearance. Putting makeup is the fastest and easiest way to be more confident and to lift your level of
What does Colgate, Band-Aid, Tylenol, Kleenex, L’Oreal, Gillette, Ziploc, and Ben & Jerry’s have in common? They all are companies that test on animals. Animal testing has been a routine process mainly in the cosmetic industry, among others, around the world since the time of the ancient Greeks. Not only is this practice inhumane, but it is also thought to be ineffective by many researchers and scientists. More than half of the tests that are performed on animals have different reactions on humans, and innocent animals are unnecessarily put through cruel treatment. Animals do not deserve to be used as subjects for research work or product testing.
When a person puts on make up, they are unifying their personal identity. If we all put on foundation, mascara, eyeliner, and lipstick then we all would look the same. In some cases it is good to use when covering a scar, blemish, or bruised eye but it shouldn’t be used in every situation. It is important to understand that what we think of ourselves is more
Makeup application has become a popular topic in this generation. The creative ways makeup can be used is very interesting to watch and the way products can transform people is truly incredible. There are constantly makeup videos trending on the internet, and the amount of views they receive is astronomical. When scrolling through social media, there are countless makeup tutorials showing all different ways to do makeup. Makeup in itself has become very trendy over the last five years, but some people are taking it to the extremes. Although individuals that are applying heavy amounts of makeup aren’t surgically changing their appearance, the way the makeup is being applied is giving the person a whole new look. The excessive use of makeup is creating a negative effect on women because of how much it is altering the look of ones’ face.
Makeup has been around for over 10,000 years because women have always strived to make themselves perfect. Makeup is cosmetics such as lipstick or powder applied to the face and is used to enhance or alter the appearance.Over the years the use of makeup has been used for many things other than enhancing a woman’s natural beauty. Women wear makeup to look more appealing and boost their confidence rather than wearing it for a man.
On July 2015, a popular beauty Youtuber named NikkieTutorials shared a video about the “power of makeup.” She stood up to the makeup critics who claims that women only wearing it to impress men or hide their insecurities. In response, Nikkie decided to make one half of her face “full-on flame” and leave the other half “raw, unedited, nothing, me.” Since then, other women who have been inspired to share their love for makeup start posting similar photos of their own half made-up faces. Makeup is universal and it is used by women and men who want to look pretty all over the world. It is an enjoyment for them to become prettier instead of a thing they need to be shameful for. However, beauty is a reflection of cultural perceptions and ideas
Makeup: what is the point? Most women enjoy putting on their makeup for special occasions, such as weddings, dances, or nights out, or their day-to-day normal life, but no one knows the true purpose of makeup. Sure we use foundation and concealer to cover up blemishes, but why not celebrate and embrace the fact that we are humans and humans have acne? Wearing makeup for the purpose of covering up acne and imperfections are not the only reasons women wear it. They enjoy feeling beautiful and confident, being more attractive, and because they just enjoy putting makeup on.
Those who are fond of using make-up probably know how I feel. A person wearing make-up can affect the way they feel, but can their make-up affect others around them? What are their first impressions of those who wear make-up? What are their impressions of those who wear make-up daily and suddenly saw them without it? Wearing a beauty product that can change the way a person looks, might also change the way others look at that person. People may say that a person is not comfortable in their own skin when they do wear make-up. For those who do not wear make-up, others may say that they should try wearing make-up. While observing and
