I. Introduction
a. A key determinant in an organizational success is directly related with the management styles of leadership. According to Parris & Peachey (2013), the key to understanding an organizations success is to study its leaders. A leader’s ability to inspire, motive, and create a strong sense of engagement and commitment to the organization will determine the success or failure in the attainment of goals. Transformational, charismatic, and servant leadership are three styles that organizational leaders might possess. While there is no predetermined best style of leadership, one can describe leadership and management as situational. The overriding goal of any organization is building a high-performing organization which is paramount for short and long term success (DeGraw & Sizoo, 2013). Both the leader and the organization should select the most appropriate style to enhance organizations probability for effectiveness and attainment of desire goals. Studies have shown when organizations have the right leadership in place, an organization can have shared vision that is articulated in a manner where subordinates desire work enthusiastically towards the accomplishment of the goals (Parris & Peachey, 2013).

When developing a template to assess which leadership styles are best suited to mitigate the effects of a decline in financial compensation, it is imperative to understand leadership theory. One of the first pioneers in leadership theory was Kurt Lewin. Kurt Lewin (1890–1947), was a prominent figure in psychology in his generation. He provided a solid foundation to the teachings of organizational development. In many circles he was known as the father of organizational development. He was best known for the development of field theory. Field theory was essential because it allowed business professionals to understand why undesirable behaviors was produced. It also taught how to bring about desirable behaviors. Field theory was developed in part because Lewin wanted to address organizational employee turnover.
A leadership philosophy helps to define and let others know what you expect, what things you value, and how you act as a leader. Different styles of leadership are needed for different situations. Every leader needs to know when and how to display a particular approach of leadership within a group. Leadership strategies define every leader’s personal leadership style. Three leadership styles of a counselor are the following: authoritarian style leaders, democratic style leaders, and laissez-faire style leaders.
2. Employees will exercise self-direction and self-control if they are committed to objectives. External control and the threat of punishment are not the only means to make employees to work towards objectives.
What is leadership? Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary defines leadership as “the power or ability to lead other people”. Although this is simply put, it is also correct. But leadership is much more than the ability to lead. The ability is one piece of the puzzle. Other pieces to consider in leadership are education, attributes, and style, just to name a few. In this assignment, I will focus on leadership style. Specifically, I will discuss my style according to the assessment developed by The University of Kent in the UK.
Leadership is a concept most people feel informed enough to discuss, but that few are truly educated sufficiently to comment on. Therefore, it is instructive to consider the leadership styles of people with very different approaches both to better understand the diversity underlying leadership, as well as to appreciate the effective and less effective strategies that underlie different leadership outcomes. For that reason, this essay will consider the styles of two leaders who are less visible in this highly contentious presidential election season: Jill Stein (the Green Party nominee) and Gary Johnson, the Libertarian candidate. The leadership styles of both are very different, yet they are aligned in the sense that both are outsider candidates struggling to gain momentum from a disaffected electorate. This essay begins with a theoretical discussion of leadership more generally and then turns to the two leaders as case studies, comparing and contrasting them and drawing conclusions about how they both work within the same public sphere and for putatively similar ends (i.e., gaining votes).
When it comes to leadership, every leader needs to figure out which approach he or she is going to implement in order to meet an organization's overall goals. Based upon my various experiences with leaders in a professional setting, I find that the manager, John, at my first job was one of the most successful leaders I have encountered. John utilized a variety of leadership approaches to ensure that we were efficient in our tasks and duties through coaching and being affiliative in his leadership approach.
Successful leaders typically have the same characteristics; they are dependable, competent, loyal, supportive and they set the example for everyone to see. I think every successful leader follows this philosophy whether they realize it or not. I have worked for several leaders throughout my 21 plus year career and I have seen all different types of leadership styles. I have learned something from every leader I have worked for, whether they were a great leader who I wanted to emulate later on in my career, or the leader that I swore I would never be like. We learn from everyone that we work for, good or bad.
There are many different types of leadership styles that are adjusted to suit different roles of jobs. All leadership styles have a direct reasoning to provide direction, as well as motivating individuals.
Peak et al. (2010) noted, “Leadership is the heart and soul of any organization” (p. 50). Not all criminal justice managers are the same when it comes to leadership. Leadership is an important skill that should be utilized at all levels of rank. Good leadership skills will make a difference when it comes to rendering ethical decisions. Good leaders do not think about themselves, but rather, their actions and decisions are in the best interest of the organization, its shareholders and stakeholders. There will be an array of supervisory leadership styles, and that particular style will impact a subordinate’s work ethics as they look up to you as a source of guidance and leader. It is a moral obligation for supervisors at all ranks in a police department; to instill positive and good work ethics into the minds of less experienced officers. This case study will explore various management styles and the type of style I personally chose to lead by. This case study will also evaluate personnel disciplinary actions, rewards, and motivations in regards to my management style
Each of the leadership styles described in this week’s reading demonstrated unique qualities that would be beneficial when dealing with specific situations and social groups. Below, I outlined the three significant differences I observed in the text, and gave examples of how the differences connected to my own professional life.
Leadership styles are the tools used by managers and leaders to implement their plans and vision through their subordinates. There are numerous theories and practices to for these managers and leaders to select from, and for this discussion, we will focus on four-leadership styles (Transactional, Transformational, Servant Leadership, and Authentic) as a metric to measure cultural influence on the selected leadership styles. There is growing concern about the financial stability of the college, due to the declining number of enrollments into college. In spite of recent training, that was provided to the admissions team, the team continues to struggle with enrollments, and the goals of the organization remain unmet. Over the past year, there has been a steady decrease in the number of enrollments into the college; which has negatively impacted our investors, student body, and employees’ alike. Recently, there have been multiple complaints filed by various employees with allegation of disrespect, unfair treatment, and reports of a hostile work environment, in the admission department.This research serves to examine the relationship between managers’ leadership
Every person brings a new management style with them to the positions. However, not all managing styles are effective for a well ran organization with good employees. Some aspects of a good manager are one who empowers their employees, motivates them, and in today’s work climate protect the staff from bullies. Along with personal issues that managers deal with in libraries, new technologies are introduced quickly. Managers are responsible for staff training on the new technology and creating new policies for the technology.
Management styles are the method of leadership ship that an administrator usually employs when running a business. The management style of leaders will influence on organizational climate, and the organizational climate has significant effect on organizational performance which is profit of enterprise. So managers have to think about that which management style they should take, and why they should take the style. According to Hay-McBer there are six management styles or leadership.
The following is information learned about each country that would aid HRM planning and decision-making: German managers achieve status by demonstrating technical skills. Netherlands management approaches rely on cohesiveness and collaboration to exchange ideas with workers to create a productive work environment. Education is provided through government funding through the graduate school level. India is a collectivist culture emphasizing the person-organization fit as a predictor of the turnover rate in that country. Individual technical skills are prevalent in their pool of talent. Management styles are less authoritarian and include more group decision-making processes.
