Another alternative to this option is independent contracting or part-time work. While these options would most likely not come with benefits, it is an advantage when an employee 's spouse has coverage. Last, there is the option of telecommuting. This option is quite popular where a portion of scheduled work hours can be done outside the office, "facilitated by various forms of electronic communication and computer-mediated linkages to clients, patients, and a central office" (p. 297).
Motivation Based on Process
People work to satisfy certain needs, in pursuit of positive expectancies and set task goals. There is usually a competitive aspect among employees and in itself is motivating. Although there are times when one will think inequitably treated when compared to others coworkers, rewards and incentives give rise to this discomfort and can restore a sense of equity to the situation (Lombardi, 2007). It is the position of management to anticipate negative inequities and carefully communicate with clarity the basis of rewards during performance appraisals and offer appropriate comparison points. Understanding the need for hard measures helps management confront and resolve negative feelings and conflicts the downsizing will cause Depending on

When considering downsizing, one of the most vital questions to consider is whether downsizing will improve organizational efficiency, productivity, and performance. If so, Stonewall must then consider what practices of downsizing to implement – workforce reduction, work redesign, or systematic change (Belcourt & McBey, p. 263). If reducing the size of the workforce, things to consider are whether cuts will be either targeted or across the board, and whether the cuts will be carried out all at once or staged over a period of time. Although, downsizing strives to improve
There is much to making the workplace into a successful team. In order to do this there is a lot of effort, patience and understanding that must take place. To make the workplace successful, certain protocols and ideals and even morals have to be instilled in the workplace. Each member of the team may have their own set of goals that motivate them. It would be extremely wise to try to implement those goals into the workplace for example if one team member has the goal of productivity and another has a goal of better service, these are goals that would benefit the workplace so it would be great to implement those goals into the workplace. To make these goals a reality the employer or leader of the team can offer
The economic downturn has led healthcare organizations to think big changes. We understand that all organizations experience micro changes in their normal adjustments to operating; however, occasionally a unique climate comes together to force new ways of thinking. This new way of thinking is usually a whole novel vision and an entire new direction which “transforms” the organization. When successful, these organizations become a learning experience for other organizations that perhaps need to make similar changes. This paper discusses two

Motivation is the force that makes us do things, whether accomplishing personal goals or completing tasks at work. Most people are motivated as a result of their individual needs being satisfied, which gives them the inspiration to perform specific behaviors for which they receive rewards (Kinicki & Williams, 2011). These needs vary from person to person, as everybody has specific needs to be satisfied. When we consider factors that determine the motivation of employees, many of us think of a high salary. This answer is correct for the reason that some employees will be motivated by money, but mostly wrong for the reason that it does not satisfy other needs to a lasting degree (Bizhelp24, 2010). This supports the idea that human
Motivation is the number one driving force behind anything and everything an individual does each day. “Motivation is the desire to do the best possible job or to exert the maximum effort to perform an assigned task. Motivation energizes, directs, and sustains human behavior directed towards a goal.” (Honor, 2009). Motivation can determine the outcome of projects, goals, and can set limits on what an individual can obtain or what they believe they can obtain. Motivation often is the deciding factor on how successful a project in an organization is, and an individual’s needs and desires can both influence a person’s motivation greatly. Motivation can also determine how well an individual does in school, college, or university.

A corporation needs to have a strategic plan in place in order for them to be able to implement a downsizing. There are many pros and cons to downsizing and it has a ripple effect on everyone in the corporation. Depending on the planning of the downsizing, one of the big issues to decide on is how to choose who will be terminated. For example, do you go by seniority, a percentage from all departments, an entire department, or by job level or position? These are major options that need to be addressed before anything happens. Most corporations today exist less for the well being of employees than they
Downsizing has become a commonplace strategy for organizations to adopt in an effort to cut costs, eliminate redundancies, and streamline organizational systems. Over the last 15 years, many organizations have engaged in downsizing more than once. Most companies have learned from the mistakes of the past, but some companies are still trying to use the same tactics today that were used in the mid 1980s, that leave employees reeling.
A diversity of reasons can be lead to the decision of downsize.
