Motivational Methods
There is much to making the workplace into a successful team. In order to do this there is a lot of effort, patience and understanding that must take place. To make the workplace successful, certain protocols and ideals and even morals have to be instilled in the workplace. Each member of the team may have their own set of goals that motivate them. It would be extremely wise to try to implement those goals into the workplace for example if one team member has the goal of productivity and another has a goal of better service, these are goals that would benefit the workplace so it would be great to implement those goals into the workplace. It is important to see what team members are involved in what and reward them accordingly so they continue to be involved.
Including the staff in events also motivates the team as well. Team events would be company dinners or picnics for example. This is also a great way to get the families of the team members involved as well. These events allow people to converse that would not otherwise, which would make the team a closer group of people. Another aspect the leader can do for the team is to offer contest such as employee of the month to motivate the employees or team members to better their performance. This would not work in all teams as the competition could create problems between the members but in some situations this would motivate the members. It is important to discuss what needs to be done to qualify for this and maybe offer to only have the same employee three times in a year so other employees do not feel left out or that it is pointless to try. Incentives such as this are proved to motivate team members to give their best each day no matter what is going on in their personal lives. Reward, whether it is financial (in terms of a monetary bonus) or simply praise and the recognition of success, will positively impact levels of motivation within a team. For example, a sales team working towards a target, that if achieved will mean a financial bonus will be more motivated than a team without this incentive, especially if a high percentage of that team have money as a primary motivating factor. Motivation is the key to why team players try so viciously. A team player motivates the people around him/her by always having a positive attitude. Being recognized as a leader, he/she must set forth a good example. There are two ways a team player can show motivation. They are always striving for mission accomplishment and constantly wanting the team to be successful. A team player strives for mission accomplishment by showing no concern for his/her own individual needs. This will make the team want to work together as one until a particular task is accomplished. Many organizations today believe that the use of work teams will allow them to produce better products and provide better services, faster, and at lower costs. Using a work team approach can reinvigorate productivity and service provider motivation, and better position an organization to deal with a rapidly changing environment. However establishing effective work teams is not something that comes easy. Though, the benefits of effective work teams within an organization are very substantial, it takes alot of hard work and dedication on the part of management and team members to develop, implement and maintain effective work teams.
