Careers had always been the number priority in my mind since I was a kid. I wanted to grow up fast and get a career as a lawyer. I never thought about the educational part of it. When I had graduated from Elementary and Middle School, I thought it was nothing. Being in school was easy, so I never understood why people dropped out or they never got to pursue their dreams. It wasn’t until high school that things started to slowly fall apart. I did not have any short or long goals to work towards, so I started to slack off. If I had received a C, then it was “whatever”. I was still unsure what career I wanted to enter because I was too busy not caring. My sister knew that I love helping people when I can and expect nothing in return, so she told me about field that she could see me in: psychology. I immediately got hooked on it because I was curious about how the brain works and why people do the things they do. During my junior year, I had told my sister that I am going to be majoring in psychology and will be attending San Jose State University for my degree. In my senior year, I was able to attend a psychology course as part of an elective. I got bored of it the first few weeks because there was too much science and scientific terms. I wanted the class to be more realistic where we pretend to be psychologists and help patients with psychological problems. Towards the end of my Senior year, I filled out an application to San Jose State University. However, I did not hit
When I answered the questions on career cruising I found that my results were inaccurate as to the career I am interested in. The first career was mechanical engineer. Environmental engineer is the second on list. The career that I am actually interested in Software development and Computer science I did not get the results I was looking for in my career assessment. I will still look for a career in information technology when I enter the workforce but for now I will look into the jobs the field has to offer. I want to become a software developer and work for good software company, I hope it works out that way in the end. I disagree with the survey results because I do not want to become a engineer in those fields, I feel like being an engineer will be to heavy of a weight on my shoulders. Environmental engineer would not fit me because I am not a environmental type of person.
Whilst a great body of careers theory literature leans towards “career as an individual phenomenon” (Schneidhofer, Latzke & Mayrhofer, 2015), careers cannot be isolated from other factors. Grandjean (1981, p.1057) places careers at “the intersection of societal history and individual biography”. Changes in context do impact on careers, however, the extent to which they do so in isolation is difficult to measure. Context has an important part to play, offering careers “a set of external structures and events that create opportunities and difficulties” (Inkson, Dries & Arnold, 2015). Changes in context are inexplicably driven by the forward motion of time. It has been argued that individual reaction to such changes facilitates career
Unfortunately, the results of the career assessment surveys on www2.careercruising.com did not place my desired career as one of the careers it thought I would be interested in. Another thing the career assessments told me I was primarily a visual learner, but I had a secondary preference for tactile learning as well. However, it gave me a career that correlates with the subject I want to teach as my career, which happens to be mathematics (career: mathematician). This choice can be the match for lighting the fuse for the rocket that is my career path so I can blast off with my career in the future. However, I was a bit disappointed that these surveys did not land me with a “teaching” job, but one thing I can agree on is the fact that it landed me with a math-related career, because math is my favorite subject in school overall. Even so, these results might help me pursue my dream of becoming a middle-school math teacher if I work hard enough. In conclusion, even though some of these surveys’ results don’t match my interests, I can still work hard to prove them otherwise.
According to the 16 Personality test, my personality type is the defender. I possess the feeling trait and have excellent analytical skills. I have well-developed people skills and strong social relationships. Even though I’m the judging type, I am also receptive to change and new ideas. According to my Career Cruising results, I should become some type of counselor or therapist. Surprisingly, my suggested careers were pretty accurate to what I want to pursue. However, Career Cruising did not hint at any careers in criminal justice or forensic science as it has in previous years. For my Day-on-the-Job, I job shadowed Officer Brian Farlin and Detective Michael Neering to get a sense of working with crime since that has always interested me.
A normal day includes: laying out all surgical tools to ensure they are in good working order, sharper knives and scalpels when necessary, transfer the body to examination table or refrigeration unit, assist the pathologist during the examination, and identify information on the patient
I grew up being that student that always got good grades, always did what she was supposed to, did better than all of her other friends in school, and was highly motivated to achieve. I wasn’t passionate about it though. Nothing in high school caught my eye and grabbed my attention, or made me really want to go above and beyond to learn. However, in my senior year of high school, I took an AP Psychology class. I took it because it was one of the most popular classes in the entire school because the teacher was awesome. Taking this class made me realize what I was passionate about in life. But I had always heard from people that it was really hard to get a career in psychology, and that everyone majors in it. So I thought I would major in accounting,
Growing up, I was just like the average child, one week I would say I wanted to be a doctor and the next I would say I wanted to be lawyer and then two days later, I would say I wanted to be an astronaut. All of this changed when I was in the sixth grade. I watched the movie "Harriet The Spy" for the first time and I was so intrigued. I remember saying,"This girl is pretending and she looks like she's having so much fun." From then on, I wanted to be an actress, but I didn't tell anyone. I thought people would make fun of me or say I wasn't good enough. This was a constant trepidation, so when people asked me what I wanted to be when I "grow up", I would say,"I don't know", and quickly change the subject. This went on for years, I would lie and say I didn't know what I wanted to be, when that was the farthest from the truth. I knew I wanted to be an actress. I stopped watching tv for entertainment and started watching so I could observe the actors. I would watch their movements and facial expressions, and I would even write down what they were saying and redo the scene how I thought it should be done.
Everyone needs to develop skills that will help them in the future. Working to better ourselves, we help better our chances of more enlightening careers. I believe I have developed a certain few of these skills. While working at Ciddici's a pizza place here in downtown I proved such skills.
While I was in college, I felt like working with children was something that I wanted to do. There are many different career paths one could take if they want to work with children. I love sports, so I decided that recreation would be a path that would allow me to work with children doing something that I love to do. For the past twelve years, I have had the opportunity to work with the residents of Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch. I work in the Youth Activities Department and my job is to provide sports programming for our pre-adolescent population. However, I am in more of an administrative role where I oversee the program the children participate in. The time I actually have working with them one-on-one or in small groups is limited. I have
When we’re asked as children what we wanted to do with our life, it is usually not what we end up doing at all. My life experiences and challenges have pushed me to do and think about a career that I would have never thought nor known about. Social Work has had an enormous impact on my life and has pushed me to pursue a career in it. Although it is not a well-known or popular major, it is where I feel as if I will succeed the most not only in my career, but also in my life and goals. Growing up, I had dreams of being an artist, but as I experienced life, I realized I wanted to do something with my life that positively impacted others. My adolescence could be considered a rollercoaster; with lows as far down as losing my parents, and highs as far up as succeeding in high school and getting accepted to my top choice
I cant believe it’s the end of this semester. One last chance to get this grade up. I cant believe one grade could possibly hold me back from all my dreams. Since I was little all I wanted to be was football player. Are star quarterback is graduating this year, and now it’s my time to shine. Everything I worked for hanging in the shadow of this final test.
The start of this project began in early October, and for the most part it was a relatively simple course of action to be prepared, coordinated, and reported for the majority of the school year. Its themes and priorities were simple in theory, however—volunteer, research post-graduation opportunities and ideas, and for the most part settle with a plan on how to address adulthood and future prospective careers and education. My choices led me to volunteer for the necessary twenty hours and my own curiosity has allowed for me to navigate the internet and other sources for ideas on careers, education, and even the possible jobs that I could acquire when moving from Pennsylvania after my graduation. There were many things to learn, but many things
Have you ever thought about what a little research could do to help explore your approaching career? The things that will be discussed in this paper will give a clear example of what research could help you. The website that my classmates and I used to explain our Career Research papers, was cfnc.org. I hope, that through research, to discover more about a certain career that may suit my interests and things that I am skilled in.
My target goal as a performer is primarily to learn as much as I can to reach my full potential as an actor. I aim to gain as much knowledge as I can about acting so that I can better myself and grow, I will never stop learning because I am always in a position where I can grow and bloom even more as an artist. Not only do I want to learn, but I want to immerse myself with like-minded people. As an actor, I desire to surround myself with people who holds the same passion and motivation to become a performer. Being around those people would be highly beneficial to me because no one would slack and everyone would be highly dedicated to whatever we were supposed to be doing. Another goal I have is to have fun and to just relax. Going to college
It has been 10 years passed since last time I entered in college as a freshman, and now, at the end of 2017, I decide to go back to college for pursuing a new major and reaching a new objective of career path. All of these will start from Fullerton College.
