For my observation experience I went to my aunts house in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. It was a beautiful, bright Sunday afternoon on the 23rd of October, 2016. It was late afternoon when I arrived, around 3pm. I was welcomed by my aunt with a big hug and she called for her son Goose, my cousin, who was helping me with my assignment. I asked where he would be most comfortable and he said “I work best on the couch” so we went into the living room. I sat on the couch to the right of him and he laid on his belly on the couch next to me. His mom sat in as well in a chair across from Goose. It was very bright because of the large window so Goose asked to switch me couches so he could see better. I happily obliged. I explained how he was going to help me with my homework and he didn 't seem too interested, until I handed him my large sketch pad. His face lit up and he told his mom “I want one of these for Christmas Mom!”. His mom proceeded to tell me how much he enjoys art class at school. Description of the Young Artist Goose is an eight year old boy who is currently a third grader enrolled in a local school district in Cedar Rapids. He is a little shy when he is first around someone but gradually he becomes more comfortable. By the end of my visit he was showing me his new Axe cologne his mom just got him and walking me around their backyard trying to find their two cats, Darrel and Griffin. He 's also very analytical. He processes his thoughts carefully before speaking and observes
It might be hard to believe, but there are many interesting facts to learn about Iowa. First of all, factors of Iowa’s settlement give Iowa it’s roots. Understanding Iowa’s views of politics allows people to see Iowa’s effect on the country. Iowa is known for it’s farming, but the history of how farming in Iowa started is unknown to most people. It is important to learn about Iowa’s settlement, political views, and history of farming so that people can understand what it means to be an Iowan.
I bought different types of the toys from gun, iron man, robot, and car to pink kittle and cups. My intention was to observe his choice and how he would play with them. Although his first 5 minutes choice was kittle and cups in my surprise, he suddenly jump and grabbed two cars and handed one of them to me and asked me to play racing. Drawing the Kinetic Family drawing was the hardest part for him. I had to grab a paper with canyon and started to draw to encourage him and I am doing the same thing with him. It was first time that we could do something together friendly, instead of me using my age power to make him to follow me since the first time I saw him. Several day after that, I interviewed his mother who is my extended family member. While we were filling out the paper, she mentioned one of our family member’s death who was very close to Rad. I asked her about Rad’s participation to funeral and all the celebrations that we do in our culture, she told me that because she didn’t have any place to put him there, he was in all the celebrations, except funeral. I was shocked. I had the same experience, though I was older. When I was 6-year-old, my grandpa passed away, while
Observing a child is a fascinating and eye opening experience. It is amazing to see how children view certain things differently than adults. Things that some adults take for granted, children see as a miracle. I recently observed a little girl. For the purposes of confidentiality, the name of the little girl has been changed to Katy. She is five years old and has two older sisters. She will start kindergarten this year. I observed Katy on June 20, 2016 at twelve in the afternoon at the park with her mother present. It was nearly 100 degrees outside. There were a couple other children at the park as well.

Sometime around midnight between Sunday, June 9, and Monday, June 10, 1912, a person or persons entered a modest house in Villisca, Iowa; and beat to death with an axe, eight people sleeping in the Moore household, including two adults and six children aged 5 through 12. The killings became known as the “Villisca Axe Murders,” and are easily the most notorious murders in Iowa history as this case still remains unsolved.
My observation took place at a neighbor’s house. My neighbor is the caregiver of Deondre. An African American 9 year old male child. I went there to visit my neighbor and show off my new baby puppy Bella. In the meantime, while I was there I thought this would be a good time to observe a child in their natural settings.
CM made an unannounced visit to Cedar Ridge Elementary to ensure safety and well-being of Mikaylis and Tyrell Slater. Cm met with school counselor Kim Garrison, and then interview the VCs that were listed on the report.
Cedar Rapids was first established in 1849 and is located in eastern Iowa. Sumer was established between 3000 and 4000 B.C. and is located in Mesopotamia. If I had to pick either to live in one of these two cities I would pick to live Cedar Rapids.
Observation: Yesterday, in the morning, I was sitting on the floor, pretending that I was cooking something on the pot as I stir. “Child A” saw what I was doing and walked towards me. “Child A, come and see what I am cooking”, I said. She took the saucepan with the lid that was on the stove, sat down on the floor and put the saucepan down. She held on to the lid, opened it and closed it. I handed her the spoon that I was using and I took the pot and the spatula and showed her how to stir. “This is how we stir, “Child A”, I said. She started pounding the saucepan using the spoon that I gave her, making sounds. “Child B” heard the sound that “Child A” was making and saw what we are doing. “Child B” was looking at the pot and the saucepan that was on the floor as she crawls toward us. She sat on the floor beside me and opened and closed the pot twice. I opened my eyes wide and smiled, “Wow ‘Child B’ you are making sounds!”, I said. “Child B” looked at me and smiled back. I gave her the spatula and assisted her hand on how to stir. I took the kettle and the cups and put it on the floor. I sang, “This is the way we pour our drink” and pretended that I was from the cup. “Child A” took the other cup and drank from it. “Uh- oh! Out of your mouth, “Child A”, I said. Later that day, after their lunch, “Child C” went to the dramatic area and played with the kitchenware. I went to her and sang, “This is the way we stir our food” as I use the spoon to stir. She moved her head from left
The report will assess the downtown area of North Sioux City and suggest ways in which the city can improve itself. North Sioux City is home to 2,500 resident and is located in the southeast part of South Dakota. The small town has seen little growth in residential and commercial areas in the past and needs a revitalizing vision of the future to achieve its full potential. Investments in infrastructure, residential areas, and recreational activities will need to be made to ensure that North Sioux City is not another small town off the interstate, but a destination people want to come to and enjoy themselves.
He was instantly interested. I told him that since he was so talented, I needed for him to draw me a picture for my art class. It was very easy to convince him to help me with this assignment. I gave him the paper and offered him the option of using markers, crayons, paint, or even oil pastels, but he asked if he could just use markers. He went in his room where he has a desk that he regularly does his homework at and said that he would just do it in there. I then prompted him with the suggestions of drawing about him and his cat, him playing soccer, his family, school, or even about the time he had his birthday party at Fernbank. Once Rustin decided that he wanted to draw about playing fetch with his aunt’s dog, he spent close to fifteen minutes to complete it. Rustin is a relatively quiet eleven year old, therefore most of the time that he was drawing he was silent. I asked him a few times while coloring what he had drawn, and then he would explain it to me. However, I had to initiate any conversation that took place during this time. Once he was finished it was very clear that he drew exactly what he told me he was going to, and when I asked him for the title of the artwork he said it was, Playing fetch with
I’ve been involved with a homeless shelter for boys called the Potter’s House, in which my family and I volunteer to provide gifts, services and companionship to the boys living there. One year in particular changed my perspective and outlook on life. There were twin boys my age, Dontarious and Detarious, living at the Potters House who had been found living in a cardboard box in an abandoned football field. Their Christmas wish was to have a “makeover” of their bedroom, which at the time, consisted of two mattresses on the floor of a small room. The renovation took a few days during which time I had the opportunity to get to know Dontarius and Detarious personally. We would throw the football and play video games together, just goof off.
Gilgamesh, powerful, charismatic, and burly that he was hankering to make a title for himself, therefore commencing on a perilous journey into Cedar Forest. Gilgamesh presumed that if he executed the imposing Humbaba, the citizens of Uruk would gaze upon him with astonishment and awe. He yearned for his name to surpass his demise so that all would know the glorious king of Uruk who defeated the fearsome Humbaba. Gilgamesh blatantly disregards nature and its beauty in his conquest to slay the monstrous Humbaba. Nature has been long forgotten and demolished by beings who do not understand nor value its beauty.
As time went on I watched the sun fall behind the horizon, landscaping the sky different shades. My dad was exhausted of driving so we stopped at a hotel. Keep in mind we've been driving for 9 hours and we have yet to arrive to the destination. The next morning we woke up at 5am to get back on the road. I was nervous and excited to meet family I've never met before. 11 hours later i finally hear my parents say we have arrived. I looked around and I could see kids running towards the car, the smile on their faces were priceless they were so happy to see us. It was like we were famous or something. For a second I was getting a little overwhelmed. They looked different they weren't wearing what “regular” kids wear. They were wearing the complete opposite. Not to mention some of them didn't even have shoes. I didn't understand why. We got off the car and said hi to everyone then my parents gave out everything they had gathered and seeing the kid's faces light up when they would receive something just shocked me I didn't think they would react the way they did. They were so thankful and so happy with what they got. I didn't understand why they were happy to receive used clothes or used things in general. As I kept looking around, the houses looked different from how mine looked. As we went through a gate my father said “This is your grandpa's and grandma's house it's where we are going to be staying.” I couldn't believe how different the
Every night, as I sat on the table with my younger brothers assisting them with their homework, I hear a familiar sound at the door. As she walks her heels click, and I can hear her searching her bag for her keys, the next thing I know the keys are in the lock and as it turns me and my younger brothers’ jump. We run to the door and indeed we scream in unison “Mommy’s home”, one by one she gives us a hug and a kiss. My mother asks us how our day was, and if we finished our homework, she then looks to me and said “did you cook and assist your younger ones with their homework”; I replied “yes mom”. As I warm the food, I take my mother’s purse, jacket, and shoes put them away and prepare the table for her to eat dinner. As I glance at the
