My Philosophy Of Becoming A Teacher

I see students as the next generations’ heroes in so many fields. In my vision, I have to inspire students and prepare them with confidence, knowledge, experience and skills. Which means I encourage, communicate, guide, teach, and assess students in order to enrich their infrastructures.

There is a quote that I have embraced during my professional journey I like that state, “The influence of a good teacher can never be erased”. As a product of the Muscogee County School district, my life mirrors that statement. If it were not for my awesome teachers I would not be the person and teacher I am today. Growing up poor, I lived in Wilson Apartments and attended Fox Elementary School. It was my kindergarten teacher Mrs. Vignery that ignited my passion to become a teacher. She would always hold my hand and made me feel loved despite my many issues. As a result, I wanted to pass this love to my students. I cannot remember not one single thing that she taught me, but I will never forget how she made me feel. I find myself holding

Wiest took the time to listen to my troubles and work with me outside of class. She even invited me to come drink tea in her office if I needed a break or was not feeling well. But more importantly, she helped me put everything into perspective and I made some tough decisions. I cut down on my work hours, took a few months off from orchestra, took less volunteer opportunities, and learned to prioritize my responsibilities. Mrs. Wiest also helped me with my work when I was falling behind and let me take her finals at different times to balance my work load. I panicked when everything got difficult, but she supported me. If any teacher has made an impact on me during my academic career, it was certainly Mrs. Wiest. She goes above and beyond for her students and wants everyone to succeed. My high school art teacher, Jackie Tingle, inspired me to create and further my education in art. Through her constructive criticism and her wonderful teaching skills she easily allowed me to develop my own skills as an artist. In a world full of two-dimensional characters, I found it amazing that she was a successful artist. Before I met her, I did not know it was even remotely possible to have a career in art. To this day, I still have respect for her and how she carries herself. Even at times when students treated her disrespectfully she remained professional.

Everyone has had that one teacher who inspired them, and who made coming to school every day worthwhile. My teacher was my 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Eardly. She went above and beyond to be a good teacher to me, went out of her way to make sure I was taken care of, and inspired me to be a better person.

I had wonderful teachers, always so helpful and there for me whenever I had a question. I felt that I could ask them anything and that means the world to me as a student. It is important to me to feel comfortable with a teacher to succeed. Their knowledge on things that didn’t come from our books was very helpful as well, I loved to hear all their real world experiences. The teachers, they can point to and say, “That individual assisted me in becoming the person I am today.” For me, I have one special person that I can do that to. This individual is not only my favorite teacher, but very influential in my life. Katie Josef, my Ed Tech teacher, has shown me what true passion for the field of education looks like. I witness her upbeat personality, and get to experience the kindness she exuberates to her students on a daily basis. She drives the individuals in her class to succeed to their best ability. She inspires me to become an outstanding teacher in whatever field I choose to pursue. Mrs. J has shown me what a teacher that cares for her students truly looks like. With the love and support she shows, it is no mystery how she creates unbreakable bonds with her students- bonds that last for many years, even after a student's graduation. 2) I believe sharing support of ELLs and ensuring an inclusive approach relies greatly on the teachers themselves, specifically the classroom and ELL teacher. Fairbaim & Jones-Vo mention two things that I believe would work these are collaboratively planning lessons and co-teaching. By planning lessons together, both teachers are on the same page, They each understand the respected needs of their students and able to work together to create ways in which lessons are excited to optimize student success. I also think having another person perceptive is beneficial as their teaching experiences may offer you some guidance. In terms of co-teaching, I think this directly benefits the students. As I was going through high school there were many teachers that were important to me, but there was one that stood out in my mind that truly influenced my life. Mr. Ron Edwards, my 9th grade American History teacher was the most influential teacher I have ever had throughout school. Mr. Edwards was very passionate about teaching and you could tell by the way he taught every single day. He talked loud so that you wouldn’t fall asleep in his class. It was very hard to fall asleep in his class because you never knew if he was going to pick on you that day to answer questions during his discussions. The teacher that has inspired me to further my education is Mrs.Vera. Before Mrs.Vera became my teacher she was my cheerleading coach. Even while she was my cheerleading coach she taught me things that I did not know about myself. When I started cheerleading I was very shy and did not speak unless I was spoken to. Mrs.Vera helped me come out of shell during cheerleading so I could work on speaking to others. She really got me involved more with the team and she made me do things that would teach me how to be a leader and not a follower. Now thanks to Mrs.Vera I have made friends that I will have for the rest of my life.

I know that children learn in many different ways. Observing, experimenting, reading, and listening are a few of those many ways. I have learned that people learn best when the information is something that they are interested in. I am going to strive to make every lesson fun, and applicable to my students. I favor using many methods to teach, including lecturing, cooperative learning, project based instruction, and “hands-on” activities. I want the classroom to be a place that the students enjoy, not a boring place. I believe that every child has an innate hunger for learning and becoming successful. If I can harness their craving and aim it in the right direction, I believe I will be successful in helping these students achieve what they are looking for in life.

My philosophy of teaching is deeply rooted in nurturing the potential each and every student in my classes. Providing a creative environment that allows self assessment, growth, group interaction and mentorship are at its very core. Having taught in Higher Education for many years, and as an instructor of Media Arts and Animation, and Game Design, I have had the amazing opportunity to work with some of the brightest and creative young professionals. Teaching has not only broadened my love of art and exploration, but my determination to help students that do not have the confidence to persevere through their education, yet have the passion to follow their dreams.

My teaching philosophy is to create an environment that stimulates learning so that students gain the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to become proficient professionals. While teaching foundational knowledge is important, there are other essential skills and abilities that students must acquire in order to successfully transition from being a student to becoming a physical therapy professional. These skills and abilities include thinking critically as well as interacting and communicating effectively with patients and other health care practitioners. I emphasize to students that it is imperative to realize the impact of developing a therapeutic rapport with patients while providing quality, patient-centered care to optimize the healing process. Therefore, when deciding what to teach, I not only consider the content presented, but also how I can foster discussions with students so that they can apply information based on varying contextual factors. I also attempt to provide students a framework for how to achieve professional excellence, which I aim to model as I fulfill my roles and responsibilities as a teacher and provider of clinical instruction.
