Adventure Time is an American animated television series created by Pendleton Ward for Cartoon Network in 2010. The show is about a speaking dog with shape-shifting powers named Jake and his best friend Finn the Human who embark on many bizarre adventures in the post-apocalyptic Land of Ooo (Zahed). Even though its target audience were thought to be primarily children, the unpredictable show functioning as a morality tale with not an overly preachy tone has certainly attracted a fanbase of mainly young adults with its absurd humour, weirdness, emotional complexity, the subject matter of friendship, intimacy, individuality and discovering one’s self-worth all the while subliminally touching upon some serious issues and themes such as feminist …show more content…
After all, Finn is the only human he knows, and although he is unfailingly positive, that knowledge comes with a profound loneliness. “I think that’s what makes the show interesting, if anything,” Ward said. “It’s candyland on the surface and dark underneath, and that’s why it’s compelling, I think, if at all. Those are my favorite kind of emotions — the ones that conflict with each other, and they feel weird inside of you.” … “I don’t think anyone sets out trying to write for kids, because I don’t think you can,” Ward said. All of the writers are in their late 20s and 30s, and we’re all just writing it for ourselves. We’re making ourselves crack up with it.” …show more content…
The whole show represents a juxtaposition of sorts – the conflict of happiness and tragedy, light and dark, silly and profound, innocent and mature; perhaps all of this is (thankfully) not noticed by kids and ultimately these dark matters are subtle whereas the quirky humour celebrating friendship and adventure is more visible, and thus the entertainment value is universal across the ages. Moreover, the intricate character development, the backstory of the post-apocalyptic world and even the involvement of popular comedians as guest stars voice actors has contributed to the appeal for adult audience and consequently to the author of this thesis as
I walked into the classroom and started setting down chairs and wiping down tables. Ms. Justine was getting excited pulling out the children’s shirt that they had tie died the day before. Ms. Alyssa liked the shirts. Lucy F. came in first and Ms. Justine said “Lucy F. what do you think should I give you your shirts now or later today?” Lucy F. said “I think you should give them now.” Ms. Justine gave Lucy F. and Lucy F.’s mother their shirts as they held them up and looked at them. Lucy F. said “It’s so pretty.” Chase came in and asked to see his shirt and then Manaf, Lucy B., and Assel all came in and asked to see their shirts. Mr. Scott went out and got the rest of the class including Lucas, Jason, Ryker, and Jacob. I asked Lucas what he had
Feminism is an organized activity on behalf of women's rights and interests. Feminism has been in society for many years. The story “Story of an Hour” by Kate Chopin and the poem “Paper Matches” by Paulette Jiles are based on how feminism affected women before. These two passages have a similar perspective on how women saw men, both are written in the perspective of a woman, and how women were confined to their homes.
When examining the 1980s film Puberty Blues, using techniques of content analysis and personal reflection, I have observed certain differences and similarities between the culture depicted in the film and my own society and culture. The subject of the film is the journey that two young people go on as they transition from adolescence into adulthood, I will be outlining what exactly that means.
The television show stands to be viewed as if it was filmed on a handheld camera. The show has the tendency to be extremely awkward and people who do not take the time to watch a full episode will anticipate that the show may be identified as dull and a waste of time. One would feel that the show may be simple with no plot or meaning. However, after watching an entire episode, one will realize that a complex plot is not necessary to enjoy the show because of the awkward and entertaining relationships between the characters. Although, there are several plot twists that may catch the viewer’s
Similar to Sontag’s “Notes On Camp”, which “proposes a comic vision of the world” (Sontag 288), Ryan Murphy’s “Scream Queens” utilizes comedy to portray issues prevalent in society today. By “dethroning the serious” (Sontag 288) and being “playful” (Sontag 288) and “anti-serious” (Sontag 288), “Scream Queens” effectively accomplishes this feat. The TV series “Scream Queens”, deals with numerous social issues in society such as homosexuality, racism and eating disorders. However, through its comedy and lack of seriousness, this series is able to provide a sense of bluntness and harsh reality of these issues. By adopting this unique approach, this TV series’ use of comedy works, as it depicts these social issues in its true light, which many believe are non-existent, subsequently leading to society’s ability to tackle these issues directly and ‘head on’.
In addition to Mr. Schuster, Finn also demonstrate how unrealistic TV shows can be. Finn is the captain of the football team and the most popular guy at school. In the Ballad episode,he loses his reputation and his peers start laughing at him as soon as he starts participating in the choir, nut he realizes that singing is his vocation. He is doused with soda like all other losers in school, his football coach makes him choose between choir and football, and his girlfriend is pregnant with another guy. Finn, as a true leader, tries to participate in both, choral competitions and football matches. Even though the child is not his, he continues to take care of his girlfriend and because he loves her. He looks at life from a positive angle and does everything he thinks would make his mother proud of him.. He helps everybody who is being bullied at chooses to do his favorite thing despite a heavy toll on his popularity. The director creates an ideal image of a man who is completely mired in problems but manages to solves them one way or the other. In real life this would be completely different and much more difficult. Watching this character, the viewer can believe that everything is easy to solve the same way it was in the show.

After 13 years at a private, Christian school, walking onto campus each morning begins to feel like stepping in front of the camera with a mugshot placard reading, “Queer, Agnostic Socialist. Approach with Caution, Attack on Sight.” I’ve worn the sign proudly, refused to cover it up or put it away and even shoved it in peoples’ faces as a sort of challenge. As a boy twice my size confronts me in the doorway to class, I only turn my rainbow-painted cheek. Homophobic teacher? I’ll write and sign him a letter even after he’s gone. Rude questions about my identity slinging through the halls, and I’ll answer with a challenging smile.
Going all the way back to Elementary school, I had a crazy story that happened around the 4th grade. I was at recess and we had a lot of room to play on during recess. There were many trees around the area. Me being a kid at the time I liked to play with sticks and there were many sticks on the ground. So for me liking sticks I picked one up and started to wave it around all my friends. All of a sudden one of the lunch ladies starts running down, blowing her whistle to stop me from waving the stick around. The lunch lady then took me up to be put on the wall. The wall is where the kids who got in trouble for something sit on there and can’t play for a period of time. I did not play for the rest of recess. After that, my class and I went back
Explore the representation of teenagers in Skins and Misfits In this essay I am going to explore the representations of teenagers in Skins and Misfits and how their multi-stranded plot lines have an affect on younger viewers influenced by these E4 shows. I will be researching whether these targeted shows have any impact on today’s youth's behaviour, or if it is a myth. Skins is a teen drama that follows a hackneyed group of young people aged 16-18 in their home city, Bristol. Every two series shown in Skins covers the characters' sixth form/college life.
Adult Elements: Garo takes liberty showing off the human body, particularly men in this show. Garo is definitely an equal opportunity offender when it comes to selling sex, with almost every episode containing a scene with one of the protagonists in bed with a woman, unafraid to show short suggestive positions short of softporn (think Halle Berry's sex scene in Die Another Day (2002)). While these conversations are meaningful, the setting might shy away some fans and can definitely lead to an awkward situation if guests show up at the wrong moment. Language is restrained, and while the entire show is certainly not a kids' film, the adult themes present well throughout the show.
The nine various stories included in the show all happen simultaneously and are “almost” moments that often end in odd places. These scenes do not conclude in perfect little happy endings, on the contrary, they end in cliff-hangers and leave the audience with a feeling of suspense. The characters in this show are each facing their own obstacles and have very diverse personalities. Trust me when I say none of them are boring people, but they are just people facing very difficult, sometimes strange situations.
I have chosen to look at and analyse a television text. It is a TV drama aimed at a teenage audience called Skins. I chose this particular text as it focuses upon many different characters and scenarios in regards to sexuality and this forms a basis for analysis and evaluation. Skins also focuses upon Teenage sexuality, specifically, which I believe is a broad and interesting subject to analyse with many opportunities to elaborate.
While watching I took notes and paid close attention to all the dialogue and actions carried out by the characters concerning politics and stances. This was not the easy in Grace and Frankie, for, “...the characters occasionally blister, erupting in anger or sadness, and that emotional honesty gives the show the weight…” and in these moments much can be learned about the characters useful for my project (VanDerWerff). The depth of the characters is what drew me to this show but also proved to be one difficulty in creating my project. Another problem I faced was having so much to watch, but a small amount of time to watch, since I had not seen the show
Everybody is on or has been on a journey before. Being on a journey is very important because it gives you a goal or task that you want to accomplish. When you go on a journey you find is yourself through the experiences and obstacles that life throws at you. Throughout a journey, you are taught life lessons and have the capability of applying that new knowledge for the future for a better outcome. Sometimes, these life lessons challenge you and you ultimately succeed at the end. For the past 5 months, I have been on a journey as I have been learning a new instrument that I’ve always wanted to learn since I was a little kid. Being on this path has taught me many life lessons and how to stay focused on what really matters.
