NDAS Case Study – PART 1 Read the following case study and answer the following questions. 1. Briefly describe the current state of NDAS’s office automation, system integration, and networking. Begin by explaining how each department uses information technology, what hardware it uses, and what functions currently are automated. Also assess which department is most in need of a network. [5 marks] The level of automation varies significantly among the NDAS departments and offices. In addition, NDAS is in the process of downsizing to achieve a more cost-effective computer support system. For example, the Sales and Marketing Division has a desktop computer for each of the account representatives. All of these computers are connected …show more content…
Each facility must make photocopies of billing and timecard information before sending it to corporate headquarters. This is done to safeguard the information in case it is lost in transit. Moreover, if questions or problems arise pertaining to the delivery of a parcel (package tracking), but the billing ticket information has yet been entered into the corporate database, then that ticket must be located manually. Locating these tickets manually is very time consuming, which is a factor that could keep NDAS from serving its customers quickly and maintaining a competitive advantage in the overnight delivery market. 4. Which TWO (2) of the four network types (e.g., LAN, WAN, Wireless LAN and MAN) might be appropriate for NDAS? Justify your answer. [4 marks] NDAS definitely needs a WAN because of its widespread operations as shown in the text. It also needs LANs in the various offices and departments. These LANs would eventually be interconnected to each other and with the WAN. Note to instructor: An alternate answer could be a single large LAN for the entire headquarters, interconnected via a WAN to the field offices. 5. When looking over the company’s organization chart, you notice that the acting manager of the Information Services/Data Processing Division is also named Coone (Les Coone). Inquiring, you learn that Les is President Coone’s nephew. Les has just
The newborn and infant physical examination, NIPE, is performed by a qualified NIPE practitioner (Department of Health, DoH, 2015; Public Health England, PHE, 2013), within the first seventy-two hours of an infant’s life. This screening consists of a head-to-toe examination of the infant, including, but not limited to: the heart; the eyes; and the hips. During the examination, the practitioner will take the time to promote good health and wellbeing of the infant, by teaching the family how to identify signs of a well and unwell infant (Someren, 2013). The intention of the examination is to assess whether the infant has any congenital abnormalities (DoH, 2015; PHE, 2013). The NIPE is a developmental examination which is replicated between six and eight weeks after the infant’s birth, to screen for congenital disorders that become prominent in their physiology within this time period.
2. What is the difference between a WAN and a LAN? Which type of network is the Internet? Which type of network is the classroom network?
2. Enterprise networks typically use LAN _____ at each site to connect devices using some type of media.
A LAN is a ‘Local Area Network’. It is a small network of computers most often

Ideally, each local office would integrate its computers with a LAN, so that all employees would be able to share information, and resources such as printers. In case there are multiple buildings in an office (like in the corporate office), each building would have its own LAN, and the LANs could be connected by a Backbone Network.

Finally, the group invested heavily in 1994 in Office Machines Dealership (OMD) a commercial systems designed to support the administrative information system at Bandon Group. This system is dated and a solution is required to overcome the current limitations of the system and allow for the seamless flow of information in and out of the system.
In the early 1990s, the Florida Department of Management Services (DMS) had built up a large information systems network that served state government agencies in 10 regional sites and connected these to the data center in Tallahassee. The network was based on the use of the proprietary Systems Network Architecture (SNA) from IBM and a mainframe at the data center that housed most of the applications.
Before I start, let’s first discuss about office automation system (OAS) and its advantages. When you
