To determine the level of my fiber intake from a 3 day sample of my diet, I performed a Prospective Diet Analysis. On average, I consumed 22.3 grams of fiber, just missing the recommendation of 25 grams. Coherent to the findings of the related studies, my cholesterol intake decreased and by the third day totaled 124.5 mg, which relates to 42% of the Daily Recommended Intake of 300 mg.
Proper nutrition is important in maintaining a long and healthy life. Most Americans are rushed due to their busy work schedules, and do not take the time to plan their diets properly. Like me, most Americans are unaware of the importance of eating a healthy diet and consume too many foods without the proper nutrients. Throughout my life I have been fortunate. I have not had any major health problems, and have been able to consume most foods without having to worry about gaining weight. These last two years, however, I started to gain weight and have become concerned with my diet. As the world evolves the focus on children and their health continues to be placed on the back burner. Child obesity is at an all time high, yet the worlds focus is to come out with another TV show, another computer game, another fast food restaurant. As a physician assistant, it would be my life goal to educate the children and families on the immediate and life long dangers of continuing a life of no exercise and intake of high fat foods. These communities need a physician who understands that the drive thru is a way of life because each parent works two jobs and time together is limited. They need a physician who understands and is able to compile treatment plans that truly work with their situation, not just a plan that would suit any patient. I am interested in applying for any part-time positions at Food Basics, such as a Cashier, Store Clerk, Receiver, or others. I am interested in working at Food Basics, because I want to put my skills to use here and contribute to this supermarket. I feel that my cash-management, customer service, and interpersonal skills will come to great use within any position, whether being a cashier, or helping customers. As such, I feel that I am able to accomplish the necessary job requirements with my skills. Currently, I am enrolled in Grade 12, and plan on focusing in Business-Retail programs for my post-secondary education.
This is my first year at Brigham Young University and I declared my major as Pre- Dietetics. Interested in Dietetics as I am, however, I still want to challenge myself with Nursing. The major is intensive itself and highly competitive. If I am qualified for the rigorous Nursing program, I would graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree after four years of college. If not, I would pursue a bachelor degree in Dietetics and after that I would go for a master degree in the field. I would like to work for a nursing home or a hospital if there is an opportunity, since I like helping people in need, especially those on poor health condition.
In this report it will be analyzing my personal diet. I analyzed myself over a 3 day period. During this period, I analyzed my eating habits on national holidays versus my day to day life. I am a 20 year old female (not pregnant or lactating) I estimate my weight to be 195 lbs. and my height is 5 foot 6 inches. My daily activity level is sedentary. My job is as a leasing professional and in that profession there is some foot traffic but not much. There is also limited heavy lifting. Out of work I participate in limited physical activity. I rock climb on some occasions and attend the gym occasionally. My personal goals currently is to stay healthy. As I lessen my work load I would like to increase my physical activity with strength training and cardio. Pertaining to my nutrition within the 3 days due to their being a holiday I ate more meat than usual. I try to add more vegetables to my diet. Fruit are not often added to my meals due to how quickly they decompose. I eat mostly organic products and limited dairy. I try to avoid bread and pasta and use vegetables as substitute in recipes that require them.
I am seeking a dietetic internship at California State University Fresno, to continue my journey in dietetics. At first, obtaining a college education meant more than just assuring a better future but breaking the chain in a long line of poverty and illiteracy. As my mother was a single parent and immigrant to the United States with less than a first grade education, her desire to have a better life for me has always been present. Being a first generation Mexican-American and the first in my family to graduate college, I consider myself privileged to have the opportunities my parents never had. Although, I did not know it at the time, my journey in dietetics started after high school. I was fortunate at such a young age to work in a convalescent home as a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA). While caring for the residents, I discovered an innate need to care for others. I gained as much from them as they did from me. As a CNA, I

As the clinical director for the OAS community clinics at Ross University, I worked diligently with our faculty advisors to provide free clinical evaluations to the local Dominican community. We offered screening examinations for hypertension, diabetes and obesity. It was my responsibility to train the volunteers, set up the clinic, and to ensure that the clinic ran smoothly for both students and patients. The gratification that I got from promoting healthy living and disease prevention when participating in community clinics played a huge factor in motivating me to start a weekly weight management clinic with my mentor. When I first began college I was unsure of what career I wanted to pursue, but I knew whatever I chose would lead me to a challenging and rewarding career. My first semester at California State University, Fresno (CSU, Fresno) I enrolled as a biology major because of my interest in science, but I also happened to be taking a nutrition class as a part of my general education. As the semester progressed my interest in nutrition grew, while the feelings of uncertainty I had about my future career began to dissolve. I was drawn to the field of dietetics once I began learning about the effect that food has on the human body, and realized I could educate others on how to combat diseases such as cancer and cardiovascular disease.
Since we have been learning about nutrition in class, our task was to record a food log. Nutrition requires a well-balanced diet containing nutrient and vitamins like amino acids and fatty acids. Over the past seven days I have been recording and have been looking very carefully at my intake of nutrients, minerals, vitamins, and fats. In our task, the objective was to record the basic foods we ate during the period of seven, but it did not require recording every single detail or our intake of food. Doing this food log was a pain and it was disturbing because I never wrote about what I ate like breakfast, lunch, dinner, or additional meals. A college major can tell you a lot about a person’s goals or interests. Usually there is some relevance to the reason we want to spend the rest of our lives doing something. I chose nutrition as a major because I hope to spend the rest of my life educating kids on the importance of what we put in our bodies. Relatively recently we began to understand the importance of nutrition education for our children. Some schools already offer courses regarding nutrition and how to cook healthy meals, but so many kids do not even have the options to learn about these things.
We need to communicate that a change in lifestyle is the biggest proponent of weight. In fact, studies have shown that “interventions that promote lifestyle changes…have shown better weight [loss and] maintenance than interventions that do not” (LeCheminant 348). Since ads will continue to showcase the opposite and provide examples, it falls to healthcare providers to amplify this message. Dieticians and nutritionists and even primary care physicians need to focus on explaining that putting in work is the only way for a person to lose weight in a healthy way. However, they cannot just preach this message and expect their patients to immediately comply. Doctors also need to have a background understanding of what a patient’s life includes, and meet them where they are. For example, a poor person who lives in a food desert and buys cheap, unhealthy food is going to have a harder time losing weight than a person who shops exclusively at whole foods. Miscommunication comes when there is no understanding of the everyday hardships a person faces that would prevent them for implementing healthy lifestyle changes a doctor
