Using one’s power over the weak ones and feeling superior about it is known as bullying. It occurs when one has to put down another in order to gain his or her strength. Every person around this world has once faced bullying, whether it be at home, school, or work. Bullying can be physical, verbal or cyber. Bullying usually comes from learning it from adults, monkey-see-monkey-do. From the elementary school, children usually see their seniors bullying them, and they learn the same and follow it. Parents and teachers do not take bullying as a serious matter, which makes it worse. As it is said, the plant that prospers has smooth leaves, whereas the plant that grows badly has dangled leaves, meaning the wunderkind display their talent from an early age. If a child is not stopped when they are young, they are going to take the bad habit with them till they grow up, and bullying never stops. I knew bullying is a problem, but I did not know it is this big of a problem myself. After having the depth learning about it, bullying is a serious problem not just in the USA, but all over the world. Bullying has made people end their lives or go into severe depression; it is indeed a crime. When society recognizes that
It is no secret that children begin to absorb what they are presented with very early on in their childhood. Any form of abuse during the elementary school years can be particularly harmful to a child’s confidence and outlook on life because it is when they are learning and growing their social circles the most. This is a serious matter and can result in the dropping of grades, long-term withdrawal from relationships and self hatred. The question we are presented with here is “What can be done to mitigate bullying in elementary schools?” There are a number of things that can be done to reduce the social problem of bullying early on, but to do this we need to be
Back in the past many have focused on drug and alcohol use in school students along with students carrying weapons to schools, and it seemed as if no one was recognizing the significance of school bullying. For victims of bullying, they go to school every day facing harassment, taunting, and humiliation. Kids today come home and kill themselves or never want to go back to school because of BULLYING. “Studies show that 25-35% of teens encountered some type of bullying in their lifetime (Nansel et al,).” Bullying is a form of violent behavior that happens not only in the schools but everywhere. Kids everywhere have been exposed to bullying in school for generations and ages . Although bullying has always been a factor the consequences for
What if you were terrified to go to your school every day? 160,000 students miss school each day because they get bullied and are scared of what will happen (“Bullying Statistics”). Bullying has been a major problem in schools for far too long. Students should not be scared to go to a place that is supposed to be safe and where they can express themselves. Students that bully never get the punishment they deserve, which causes them to continue to act. When you go to school, you should know that if you are getting treated in a horrific way, the people who were treating you that way will get punished. Students who bully should be suspended from school.
In any country, in any state, and in any city, there is one thing that occurs to link all these places together: bullying. Bullying is the use of force, threat, or pressure to abuse, scare, or aggressively control others. It has become a major problem in school, at the workplace, and even online. But what makes a bully? What is the real origin and source of bullying and can it be prevented? It is believed that there are many solutions that can prevent bullying in the future for kids and even adults. Most of these solutions occur in the adolescent years of the individual; however, two solutions stand out. The two most effective ways to prevent a child from being a potential bully are through teaching individuals to handle situations appropriately and giving these individuals good role models
A 15 year- old is carrying her books she is getting bullied because she likes to read books. Older girls start pushing her around and calling he a nerd and she gets very emotional. When she gets home she has thoughts about killing herself and she can’t handle all the laughing and rumors she takes a rope and hangs herself.
Bullying is an aggression that makes someone feel hurt, intimidated, humiliated, or offended by someone who has more power than them. It can face to face or through the internet and comes in many forms as physical, verbal, emotional, or cyberbullying. Many young people were first exposed to bullying when they experienced it as children in school.
Seventeen-year-old, Sally Jensen does not have a great home-life. Her parents spend all their money on drugs, which makes they have very little to no money to spend on their needs. Therefore, she does not have good clothes or hygiene items. At school, she gets made fun of for the way she smells and looks. Then one day Sally’s had enough. At school, the principal announces her lost. Guilt weighing heavy on the bullies’ heart. Saying, “I did not know, she would die.”, “I was just kidding.”, or “I did not mean it.” It is funny how they did not mean it when suddenly they have blood on their hands.
On August 13th, 2016 there was an article put out on heavy.com about a teenage boy named Daniel Fitzpatrick who earlier that week committed suicide. Many family members were in disbelief about the incident and even more when they found a note he had left behind explaining why he had chosen to do this to himself. Included In the note was the sentence, “I gave up”. (Daniel Fitzpatrick-2016) All throughout high school, Daniel had suffered from school bullying. When he tried to inform his teachers of the problems that were taking place on school grounds, nothing was done to punish the students who were bullying him. In the note, he stated, “The teachers, they didn’t do anything either”. So, when Daniel felt like there was no help, he took his own life.
“Ha, it’s Mr. Caveman who somehow got accepted into this school without a tablet,” exclaims my annoying bully. He turns, does a 180, smashes my desk and yells, “Did that startle you? You baby!”
Individuals often seek others opinions about themselves, while the outcome isn’t always positive. Words are the most destructive acts that people use as a form of bullying; I know this because I was a victim. Being sensitive to these words that these bullies spit out, led to a buried chest of awful feelings. Some of these feelings were in no position to be hidden. Learning how to let out my feelings and let others in has been so important and life changing for me, both then and now as I continue to run into these negative people, the bullies.
According to “bullyingstatistics.org” that a study in Britain found that at least half of suicides among young people are related to bullying. This shows that we need to find more ways to stop bullying all over by using alternate ways to stop bullying from taking so many of the young and thriving minds of today’s youth. Although empathy can be a great help when facing certain types of bullies, having confidence, teaching discipline, and standing up to the bully are much more effective ways to stopping a bully if you’re a bystander or the actual victim.
When bullying becomes noticeable to others, especially those of a higher power, it can lead to consultation to put a stop to the violence. Regina copies pages of the Burn Book and places them under the doors of classrooms in the school. When people are coming out of their classes the girls read all of the horrible things said about them and start to blame each other over who wrote it. Violent fights between the girls break out around the school. The principal, Mr. Duvall is called to try and break it up. When that does not work he sets the sprinklers in the school off to temporarily stop the girls from fighting and orders them to the gym where he declares,
There is a boy sitting alone in the corner of his room, the same thought runs through his head each and everyday. He wonders if his parents would even notice or if they would even miss him. As the blood drips down from his arms, he decides that enough is enough. He slowly walks down the stairs to his dad’s gun closet and pulls out the most quiet gun there is and makes his way back to his room. The relentless bullying cannot continue if he is no longer here on earth to be bullied. Although people all over the world do not know it, they take part in bullying at some point in their lives.
To further understand how Connecticut schools implement the anti-bullying statute posed by the state, I will present data from the town of Marlborough. The Marlborough School District is a single PreK-6 school in a rural town serving nearly 545 students. According to the CT State Department of Education (2017) website, Marlborough encountered six total bullying incidents in the past 4 years. The state does not specify how many of those incidents, if any, were considered cyberbullying. Marlborough has written a Safe School Climate Plan, as required by the state, with the purpose of providing a learning environment free from bullying, cyberbullying, and teen dating violence to provide a positive school climate. For the purpose of this analysis, I will focus on cyberbullying.
Bullying has become a very hot topic in schools and on social media. There is a chant kids say “sticks and stones my break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” This is totally false. In truth, words can kill. Bullying is a fact of modern society; it can cause psychological effects and in most cases result in self-harm. I believe preventative measures to reduce bullying in schools and social media should be taken.
