Basketball Coaching
Dean Smith, Phil Jackson, James Naismith. What do these men have in common? They are successful basketball coaches. Play calling and smart strategies are a two things a successful basketball coach needs. It takes hard work and dedication to become a successful basketball coach.
Coaches are suppose to teach beginners and professional athletes the skills they need to succeed at that particular sport. Coaches mostly teach elementary, middle, high school, or higher like the college level or the pros. Some coaches might not teach at those levels but they will tend to teach for recreation leagues. They have training and practices to help and improve the athletes’ form, technique, skills, etc. Along with helping the athletes individual skills, coaches are responsible for implanting into the players the importance of good competitive spirit, good sportsmanship on and off the court, and also teamwork. Coaches tend to evaluate their opponents so they can determine game strategies so they can put their team in the best position to win and establish certain plays to practice. During competition, either the coach or the point guard, usually tend to call out specific plays to score most of the time but they can also call out a play to slow the game down if it close. High school coaches usually are academic teachers who augment
I heard the faint high pitched beeping of my alarm clock as I opened my sleep covered eyes. I attempted to roll out from under my covers but immediately retreated as I felt the chilly spring air touch my skin. While I was mustering up the motivation to get out of bed, I glanced at my alarm clock. “11:00 AM” it read in boxy, glowing numbers. Had I really slept in that long? I finally rose from my bed, traveling down the stairs to make myself some breakfast. “Hi, girl!” I greeted my dog where she was waiting for me at the bottom of the stairs. I smiled to myself as I turned on some music, opened the fridge to retrieve some eggs, and turned on the stove. It felt like a fine Saturday morning until I remembered that I had a lacrosse game later
The biggest difference between good coaches and bad coaches is how they influence and handle a their players. A good coach can push a kids out of their comfort zone to make him/her play better. Good coaches also make the players a better person in society and help them gain confidence. A good coach is a fair coach who sees all of his athletes as equals even when some athletes are superior to others. A bad coach does the opposite of what good coaches. They have a negative effect on the children they coach. Bad coaches can make practice a hostile environment pushing the kids to their mental and physical limit. Bad coaches also cut down their players confidence rather than build it
Coaches need to have certain skills and knowledge to undertake the role. In my opinion a coach needs to be patient, supportive, interested, aware of others as well as self, attentive and perceptive. Such elements underpin effective coaching and a genuine interest in the person being coached.
Coaching basketball is about strategizing and directing the movements and actions of a basketball team or individual player. Coaches strategize and scout opposing teams and find ways to defeat them as easily as possible. A successful basketball coach needs to now the understanding of how to play the game. A basketball coach must be able to manage the duties of the job by recruiting the top players, get them in shape, make a team, motivate players and teach them how to play the game of basketball. Coaching is usually done by a single person, with the help of one or more assistants. A coach is the face of the team, helping it achieve the public relations goals of the organization and build a positive image that will improve recruiting. (Edmunds). A coach is responsibiable for setting up and an environment so that the team can use its skills and abilities to their full potential. Therefor a coach has to make a game plan for each game, so that his team will be ready for the next opponent. A coach has to know his team and the opponent abilities to be able to match his team up with the opponent. A coach must know to mix the players who can start right away and players he can develop into starters. A coach may want to put 12-15 players on the roster just in case of injuries. To get ready for the season the coach starts putting in offensive and defensive plays the will run and teach the players situational plays to fit the team style and running practices. During a game a coach has
With the right influence, communication and skill development is the key to a valuable coach. Without my two outstanding high school coaches, I wouldn’t have the love for basketball and track the way I do today. They have taught me everything I needed to know for the present, along with tips for the future. Coach Lewis and Coach Kohler have done more for me than what I’ve ever deserved and I will never be able to pay them back for all their help and encouragement. But I hope they have understanding of how much of a change they can make on someone's life, someone's life like my
Now this point can go either way; while a coach should be able to motivate their players, the players themselves should have an inside motivation of their own. It all goes back to communication. If a coach is not good at communicating their expectations and such with the players, sometimes the players can become uninterested. Even more drastically, there have been cases where a coach was just so bad, it even caused a player to turn away and completely lack motivation to even continue to play the sport (Bornstein 2). All of the above are mostly qualities that a coach must show on the court, but what about off court?
Finally, outside influence plays a key role in determining athletic success. Athletes must be motivated to push away negative influences, peer pressure and what others want. It’s important to have a good coach who cares about the athlete’s success and hones his skills. Coaches can mold an athlete’s physical and mental maturity and play a critical role in helping develop the athlete while putting them in a better position to handle success.
Specific Purpose: To persuade the SPC-112-W003 class on why college athletes should be getting paid.
Did you know Soccer is the number one sport in the world with more than 4.0 billion people worldwide that play? Most people just think Soccer is kicking a ball around and running, but it can be more complex than that and there's more to it then just kicking a ball. I'm going to walk you through the key steps to becoming a successful soccer player.
If anybody in here has a child, hopefully at least one of us will, will you let him/her play sports while they are growing up? If not, hopefully this speech will at least show you some benefits from playing sports as a child.
Having a coach in life will positively influence your character and your skills. Also, having a coach doesn’t necessarily mean that your playing on a field. A coach can be anyone from a role model to a parent or guardian, a teacher, a pastor, a mentor, or sometimes even a best friend. One of the most important things for a coach to have is influence, and more important than that is that the influence he has on his players must be positive. As a leader, a coaches job is to better his players on and off of the field. This is done by developing the character of his players through encouragement and helping them understand that the game is more than just about winning. A good coach will always put the needs of his players first before he considers himself as a factor. If a coach is successful his players will develop a strong sense of self-motivation. This helps by allowing the player to
¨Have you watched a game of football and think it is too rough for your kids to play?¨ Well it's not that rough you have good body protection like equipment to keep you safe. Well it is time to stop worrying and let your kid play some pigskin.
A Coach is somebody who develops, improves or promotes changes in a persons ability and understanding. Coaches work with another person or a group of people and develops them as people using sport to progress them in their development. All coaches have certain responsibilities towards performers, their sport, their profession and themselves. Below I have identified what a coach may be required to fulfil.
The coach will portray that mistakes are not acceptable and the athletes should make as little mistakes as possible. The coach will also show that he/she does not have patience for the athletes that cannot pick up the skills quickly. The coach will condition them if they make mistakes. The coach will have a very loud strong voice, demanding, and intimidating attitude. The coach will enforce fundamentals and skills that the athlete will need to be successful in the sport.
Coaching, however challenging, is a great way to influence the lives of others while also building their character. For as long as there have been sports, there have been people teaching the sport to the players and making them better at it. Coaches must have certain qualities in order to obtain success. One must also look at a coach’s motivation for his job, his passion for what he does, his methods for coaching, and how he became a coach in order to fully understand him. There are many questions someone may want to ask a coach about his profession if they are interested in coaching. Some questions would include: Why did he choose this as a profession? How did he get into coaching? What does one have to do to get a job as a coach? How
