I am writing with overwhelming gratitude to thank you and The C.T. Bauer Foundation for your recent gift of $20,000 to support our partnership with Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.
Thanks to your generous commitment, our partnership with will continue to provide a high-caliber learning environment for the future veterinarians who are training on our campus. We will endeavor to educate these young men and women about the full spectrum of animal treatment and welfare, including rescue and forensics investigations and provide high-volume, hands-on educational experiences in surgery, triage, intake and animal cruelty investigations. We also hope to inspire them to actively participate in service to their communities through shelter medicine and animal welfare activities. Your support ensures that they are well prepared for the variety of challenges they will face as practicing veterinarians in Texas and around the country.

We are the only animal-protection organization in the United States with the ability to care for all species of animals on one central campus. The scope and breadth of the Houston SPCA’s animal population, and its programs and services, make this the largest and most unique partnership of its kind in the United States. Your incredible gift will allow us enhance this powerful, immersive learning opportunity for 150 fourth-year veterinary students each
As a student of the veterinary science program at CSU will undergo specialist training in veterinary science and its associated disciplines, I can
The mission of the Houston SPCA is to promote commitment to and respect for all animals and to protect them from suffering, abuse and exploitation. We work towards that mission by intervening on behalf of more than 50,000 animals a year, including cats and dogs; small mammals, birds; equines; farm animals, native wildlife (through our subsidiary The Wildlife Center of Texas) and exotic animals like lions, tigers, bears and primates. We are the only animal protection organization in the United States with the ability to care for all animals on one campus.
Why pay hundreds on buying a dog, then spending a little to adopt one? Thousands of dogs die from puppy mills die each year, while they suffer through the harsh environment that puppy mills give. At the same time, others are waiting to become a new member of the family by adoption. Three main reasons why you should adopt dogs are, you can give them a second chance, stop puppy mills, and you can start the dog out healthy.
“While showing the love the dogs has brought great attention to our organization, we realized we can do more for the animal community as well. This epidemic has risen in recent years and needs to be recognized.”
Animal lives are on the line and human action is the key to their survival. According to The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, also known as the ASPCA, “Approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter U.S. animal shelters nationwide every year, of those 1.5 million will be euthanized” (ASPCA.org). The main goals of the website are to bring awareness to animal welfare concerns, offer solutions to those concerns, and to gain public support for the organization. The website is effective because it is visually appealing, educational, and inspirational.
Specific Purpose: To persuade my students to volunteer and train a dog for 4 Paws University
In 2000, 68 million dogs were owned in the United States. In 2017, a total of around 89.7 million dogs in the United States alone, lived in a household. As the years past more and more people are adopting dogs. Some of those owners are new to having a pet and should learn how to take care of them.
Ladies and Gentlemen of the Denver City Council, today I would like to talk to you about the city of Denver enforcing a dangerous dog law instead of breed specific legislation, because the enforcement of breed specific legislation is not the solution to dangerous dogs in the community. I plan on showing how Denver could change their law to make a difference to the quality of dogs living in this great city.
There are 365 days in a year...There are 60 seconds in a minute...But there are only 10 minutes
Introduction: Today I will persuading my audience the benefits of getting a dog as a pet. Dogs can offer companionship, protection and even improve your health. Sixty eight percent of U.S households own a pet according to the 2017-2018 National Pet Owners Survey calculated by American Pet Products Association (APPA), and majority of the pets owned are dogs, weighing in at sixty percent. Dogs are domesticated animals that consist of various breeds such as Yorkie Terriers, German shepherds and more. There are over three hundred breeds according to the World Canine organization. This organization is the largest registry of certified dog breeds. This canine organization recognizes three hundred and thirty nine breeds of dogs which are classified into ten groups based on the dog’s function or size. There are various unique breeds that can fit into one’s specific lifestyle, giving no excuse not to have a dog to compliment ones personality.
healthy dog is a happy dog, and we all want our pets to be as happy as possible. But do you know what you can do to help your dog be (and stay) in tip-top condition from puppyhood right through to his senior years? Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu once said “a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”. The journey to a healthier pet, however, begins with eight simple steps. STEP 1: THE RIGHT DIET The old health campaign slogan that “you are what you eat” applies just as
Do animals have the right to a certain quality of life? How would your views change if our cooks got treated the same way cattle and poultry do? How would you feel about them being beaten and brought to their knees just to be detained to know how to cook todays specials? You might think that the food industry has no issues and no faults behind their tasty food, but when you open up the meat curtain, there is a different kind of world out there that is cruel and inhumane. In Robert Kenner’s 2008 film, Food, Inc., He shows the conditions that cows, chickens, and pigs have to live in. The dark and closeted homes in which the animals are closely compacted together and eating, sleeping, and walking in their own manure. As a person who would consider themselves an animal rights activist, most people would agree that the food industry treats their animals like products instead of living things.
Well, luckily, there are shelters in different places that help animals that aren’t able to take care of themselves. Did you know that every year 3.3 million dogs and 3.2 million cats enter animal shelters in U.S.? If you think that figure was huge, now imagine around 1.5 million of them are being euthanized every year because the shelter doesn’t have enough money or volunteers (ASPCA) to take care of them. However, this number can be significantly reduced if we start to make a change. With my speech, I would like to persuade you to from now on look for pets in a shelter instead of a pet store. In order to do this, I will provide information about the differences between shelters and pet stores, reasons to adopt a pet, and how to do it.
Most of you probably have a pet of your own. Maybe a dog named Max or a cat named Oliver. Could you imagine seeing them in terrible pain? I honestly don't think there will be one student in this class that would volunteer to let their own pet be tortured for any reason. Am I wrong?
This summer, I went to Thailand and spent two weeks shadowing a veterinarian. I learned how to spay and neuter cats and dogs to keep their populations manageable. Sometimes, when cats need to be treated by veterinarians, they get skittish. So, I learned how to restrain them to check them better. One problem common to dogs is skin disease. To address this, I learned how to perform skin scraping to treat them for infectious symptoms and diseases, such as hair loss, scaling, or crusting. A frequent disorder of horses is colic. When a horse has colic, they have abdominal pains. To help them, I learned about how colic originates and how to treat it. Many elephants are wounded from injuries, infections, or abuse. To help heal them, I learned how to dress their wounds. Before visiting Thailand, I didn’t know how many animals are treated by veterinarians and how many ways veterinarians help them. This hands-on experience has given me a better insight as to what a veterinarian does and has solidified my career
