Physical security of arms, ammunition. The importance of securing weapons comes down to maintaining accountability for operation security, mission success, and a soldier’s over all readiness. The habits of exercising security and accountability of a soldier’s items allow the soldier and their team to operate to the highest standards or have items be accessed by an opposing adversary creating loss of overall mission success. Any time anything happens or you are preparing to go to the field or deployment of course you have to have accountability and order. Without that there would be chaos. Accountability is not an abstract concept, it is actually really simple. Accountability means saying what you mean, meaning what you say, and doing what …show more content…
That is not something I would want to happen as a result of me being complacent. One example of the dangers of leaving weapons unattended takes place in northeast Philadelphia. A police officer left a loaded gun on a table and a neighbor used it to accidentally kill his host. Another incident is a hunting accident. A twenty-one-year old male was killed while hunting when a shotgun accidentally discharged. The loaded weapon had been lying on the ground with the safety off and discharged when a dog stepped on the trigger. As important as it is to remember where your weapon is at all times, it is equally important to remember a few gun safety tips: • Always treat every gun as if it were loaded. Never point a gun at something you would not want to shoot, hurt, or destroy, even if the gun is empty. • When you are not shooting, always keep the muzzle of your weapon pointed in a safe direction. Never leave a loaded weapon unattended. • Always keep your trigger finger outside of the trigger guard until the moment you’re going to fire. • Always know what you are aiming at. Besides keeping weapons safe for the obvious reason of accountability, it is also important to remember your guard duties and responsibilities as a soldier. Guard duty is a very important job as a soldier serving in the US Army. When you are selected for this task, you are
On my first reason the firearms should be used reasonably and responsibly. A firearm should only be used towards another person is only if the are terrorizing you or if they have broken into your home and are trying to
82% of firearm suicides are committed by gun owned by a family member, usually parents. It’s not the parents or family members fault that these children committed suicide but if the guns were put away somewhere safe where only the parent or family member could access it, there’s a chance that they might still be here. It’s all a ripple effect. If you don’t conceal your firearms right, your child can get ahold of it. If your child gets ahold of the firearm, they could shoot or worse, kill themselves or someone else. Properly hide your firearms and there will be no gun for your child to shoot or kill anyone.
Some gun advocates often suggest the more law abiding citizens that have guns the less crime there will be. Gun control advocates will argue the opposite, and that no guns are better. People will always have their opinions on guns and gun control but most gun owners people are very responsible. This includes the safety of taking care of guns and putting them safely away. Keeping firearms locked up, trigger-locked, stored separately from their ammunition, or some combination of the three, the gun advocates, as well as non-gun owners, believe less accidents would occur. It is possible that this could make guns if gun owners took these actions. Statistics show that every year thousands of guns are stolen each year and end up in criminal’s hands because of improper handling and storage of guns. People sometimes abuse their rights to the second and fourteenth amendment. Sometimes guns do end up in the hands of irresponsible people. Thousands of people are killed, injured because of careless people leaving guns
If guns are in the home, keep shells/ammunition in a separate area and NEVER have a loaded gun in the home.
In the past six months, there have been a total of 19,635 gun incidents. Out of those 19,635 incidents, 107 were mass shootings, 829 were home invasions, and 604 were for defensive use, according to Gunviolencearchive.org. It is unbelievable to see the number of gun related incidents that have happened in just the past six months. What is even more unbelievable to imagine is that so many of those incidents could have been avoided if people were allowed to carry concealed guns in certain places. Concealed carry, or concealed weapons, is the practice of carrying weapons, such as a handgun, in public in a concealed manner. All fifty states in the United States allow concealed carry in public places to some degree. But, some places, for example, schools, restaurants, and stores, prohibit concealed weapons. The controversy about whether concealed weapons should be prohibited in certain locations has been debated for years, and more often in the past decade. On one side of the debate, supporters of the “gun-free zones” claim that prohibiting concealed weapons in certain locations will reduce crime and ensure that the location is free of gun violence, allowing concealed weapons can result to more guns landing in the hands of criminals, and some even insist that public safety should be left to professional, qualified police officers, not ignorant citizens with little to no expert training. However, it is absolutely necessary to know that prohibiting weapons in certain locations
To prevent this from happening, the weapon must be concealed. Moreover, carrying firearms can lead to unnecessary police calls, which could cause huge misunderstandings. To put it in a police officer’s point of view, there could be so much confusion when approaching somebody who has a weapon
Despite the danger guns are in the hands of criminals, the safety they can provide is hard to measure, but diffidently there. Over nine-hundred eighty nine thousand incidences are reported every year where a firearm was used to prevent a crime, including robberies, rapes, and murders (Geneva, 2000). A study was also done on how likely a felon is to commit a crime with even the possibility that someone else might have a firearm. Around forty-percent of criminals admitted to not committing a crime because they believed that a potential victim might have a firearm. Thirty-four percent of criminals have been had an incident where they were shot at, scared off, wounded or even captured by a victim that was armed (Armed and Considered, 1994). These people were not protected by sign of encouragement or Security Theater. They were saved because they had the ability to protect themselves. There was no one else to protect them but they were allowed to be able to ensure their own
Why do some ordinances require the use of a gun safety lock? Many experts offer the myth of a gun safety lock hindering children from harming themselves or other siblings. These locking devices are available in different styles; however, each device generally has some risk associated with its use. An examination of some popular styles of locks will help reveal their fallacies.
The student has to get the weapon from somewhere so they take it from their parents. Another solution to the mass shootings, gang violence, and suicides is a GPS device that is installed in the weapons. This would make it so that if the gun is stolen, the owner could track the weapon and deactivate it before the weapon is found. This would help with the black market guns that are stolen and then resold to thugs, gang members, and other trouble makers. For example, the GPS would make it so you could let the proper authorities know that the weapon has been stole and where exactly to find it. On another note, the GPS could be used to solve murder crimes. The police department could look exactly where the gun was and at what times, making it easier to identify the killer. The GPS enabled gun would also be able to have a certain range that it can be used in. In addition, if one is using their firearm for home defense, the radius would only be around the house. There would be less school shootings if all weapons had this feature on them. One could argue that this would not be a feasible option because of the cost of GPS that would have to be installed and someone has to pay for them. Another problem with this solution is if the gun isn’t locked up and does not have a working radius. In addition, forgetting or neglecting to lock up the firearm is a common problem. With this solution, if the parent doesn’t set a radius and doesn’t lock it up, the protective measures are basically useless. It could either be paid for by the government, who would probably raise taxes to pay for it all or it would just be paid for by the people who already own the
If you can’t maintain physical or mental security of a weapon, then that could ultimately put you or any of your counterparts at risk of losing their lives, one less weapon is two hundred and ten rounds of ammunition that can’t return fire upon the enemy. If one person in Garrison loses a weapon then it even locks down the whole post. In turn losing a weapon on Garrison makes you and your comrades lose out on the opportunity to conduct daily tasks of even just going home to their families or to do whatever their normal everyday routine is. Losing a weapon also decreases the combat readiness and the moral of the soldiers, by taking time away from the task at hand just for everyone to be stuck on post looking for a lost weapon.
Since I was a little girl, I remember hunting season; Dad and Katlyn, my sister, would come home to say they killed a deer. Even though I did not enjoy hunting, I still see how much they love to go; hunting great bonding time for them. My dad taught my sister and me how important gun safety is. He has shown us how to carry a gun properly, never to aim it at anyone, never put our finger on the trigger until ready to shoot, and always leave the safety button on until ready to shoot as well. In my house guns are always hidden or locked up in a safe, only Dad knows the combination, so no intruder can get to them. Guns are a very serious item. I was raised to understand guns are not something to joke around about; if they are in the hands
Some people like to shoot guns for hunting, some like to shoot them for recreation. Whatever the reason, when using guns, there are steps you need to take to be safe, whether shooting or storing them.
Responsibility is one of the most important things in the Army. Accountability is also a very important part of being in the army and it goes hand in hand with responsibility. I failed to maintain accountability of my weapon while at Yakima Training Center. This was not an example of being a responsible soldier. This essay will explain what happened and why I think responsibilty is so important in the US Army.
That part of security concerned with physical measures designed to safeguard personnel, to prevent unauthorized access to equipment, installations, material, and documents and to safeguard them against espionage, sabotage, damage, and theft.
We seem to take it for granted that we’re going to have our weapon on us at all times. Here in a war zone, as much as in a survival situation back stateside, there will be many times when a soldier is not within arm’s length of his firearm. He might be working on a vehicle in the motor pool, or having a cigarette outside, or just hanging around his living quarters. At none of these times is his rifle likely to be in hand or slung behind his back.
