As a high school senior, post high school options are far and few, but the one that shines above the others is the option of attending college. Instead of going straight into the workforce in order to establish some sort of independence, college provides the opportunity to build upon academic skills, gain a step up in terms of work experience, and become more acquainted with the world and adult life without a watchful parent. It is a very impactful experience that can alter the path taken in life but it comes with a very high price, one that many aren’t able to pay and in turn are forced into tens of thousands of dollars in debt. However, the individuals in debt that did graduate have received something that to most of them was all worth it, a degree. With this, they have opened up more paths in life and immediately are more welcomed in the workforce.

Another option offered by Minnesota high schools is a post-secondary enrollment option. This option is comprised of two programs offered to high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors: the Post-Secondary Education Option (PSEO) and College in the Schools (CIS). These programs are administered by the Minnesota Department of Education and offer high school students to enroll in college courses while still attending high school. The PSEO program allows the students to attend a local college or university that has been approved to be offered to high school students. Achieving a high school diploma is extremely important to me. With a high school diploma I can go to college and after wards get a really good job, I can’t be as successful in life as I want to be without my diploma. I wouldn’t be able to make as much as money as I want to or travel the world without any education. I come in with basic knowledge and the BSN nurses that I work with not only have experience but most if not all have that edge on me to deal with the family, look at the big picture and have the leadership skills necessary to conduct a fully functional unit and a calmness about them that tells you they can handle every kind of situation. A situation I can think clearly of is when I had a change in condition in one of my patients and coded, I could deal with the basics that I was taught in nursing school like CPR, calling for help, calling for Code Blue, IV access but I was incapable of dealing with the family who was at the time hysterical about their loved one impeding the process of resuscitation. The BSN nurse that responded to the code and was assisting in dealing with the family and calming them down and getting them out of the room and speaking with them in a rational manner. The other BSN nurse that responded to the code was able to orchestrate a successful Code Blue by delegating the other team members to take certain roles, 2-3 people doing CPR, 1-2 running errands, 1 recorder, 1 administering medications, 1 staying with the family, Respiratory therapy focusing on airway, and the bedside nurse explaining history and situation to the MD. The BSN nurse was able to pull all facets of the healthcare team into one

In this day and age, most Americans need a degree to ascertain career opportunities in the future; there are options for virtually all backgrounds to receive a postsecondary education. Due to the variety of education options in the United States, there are numerous opportunities for one to reach their “Utopia” when coming to school. In an idea world, there must be a school for every student to have their individual needs met and provide the perfect college experience. Through synthesizing famous texts such as Hamlet, The Aeneid, Utopia, and The Prince, I will describe the “Utopian” college setting that will successfully prepare a student like myself for the transition into adulthood. While college is both intellectually stimulating and challenging, there should be no challenge to be prepared for the “real world.”

Mandy has always believed that the postsecondary education administration has always been out to get the students by getting them in trouble. In reality, postsecondary education administrators are just trying to give a helping hand to the students.
