I believe that others have a higher professional conception of their nursing role than I, and this is also something I need to improve on. I believe role conception and self-image goes hand in hand. How does a nurse suppose to act? I believe that my attitude is influenced by my coworkers. I think that this is easy to work on. I just need to realize merely that everyone has their opinion and are entitled to that. I personally think that the value of nursing has changed. And with that, it is influencing socialization outcomes. Everyone has different values and need to be put aside when practicing nursing and providing patient care. I feel that there is a way to manage both while practicing. I must realize that the patients do not always share my value system. I do possess a strong commitment to practice in my field, belief in the dignity and worth of each and everyone, and autonomy. My personality plays a big impact with my professional socialization. The need for autonomy is important and I believe that I possess this already. According to Fetzer (2003) “ RN to BSN students had already developed professionalism as a result of their practice and exposure to work place experiences” (p. 1). I think that the more exposure I receive in my field, the greater my chances of improving my professional attitude, behavior, and values. I think that I can
