The loss of industries was one of the reasons for the decline of the city. Therefore, the city in conjunction with the federal government must work on serious strategies and tactics to bring back industries that were lost in the 1970s. This of course would mean giving out incentives to the corporations and certain tax reliefs and so forth. That initiative alone would solve the city’s major economic issues because it would provide jobs to low-skilled workers as well as the blue collar workers because that those are the groups that are
Gentrification has greatly changed the face of Oakland so far in the 21st century. New shops and people are moving in at record numbers, greatly increasing the median income of the city; however, many long-term residents are being evicted due to increasing property values and rent prices. Many are also outraged at the loss of Oakland’s strong cultural roots, but at the same time, in low income areas, crime rates have greatly reduced and academic performance has increased. This begs the question: In what ways has gentrification positively and negatively affected Oakland so far in the 21st century?
Not only for its high-rises, architectural feats, business opportunity, or what have you; but the diversity, as well.
With a growing real estate market, investors can expect a good return on their investment. In addition, the industries within the town bring in new residents and potential business income.
Introduction- The East Bay area is an economically diverse community with many satisfactory and unsatisfactory aspects. Each city had its differences and distinctions in people, settings, and cleanliness. As the bus left the station and went around the corner I could tell that we were in a low poverty city. With loose trash and debris in front of houses and apartment buildings, the area looked torn down and not very visual pleasing. Already familiar with the city of Emeryville I knew to expect a more upscale location. With plenty of name brand stores, and new apartment complexes, it was obvious this city was clean and very different from the previous location. As the bus

The city is also known for its award winning school district, outstanding parks, and historic homes. Within the city of Elk Grove one will find a prosperous historic and business district. The community offers a diverse array of shops, restaurants, and cultural experiences.
When cities begin their journey of being gentrified, many locals become displaced. Displacement is when locals are uprooted from their homes, due to outside factors, and forced to move elsewhere. According to the Urban Displacement Project conducted by U.C. Berkeley, “Gentrification results from both flows of capital and people. The extent to which gentrification is linked to racial transition differs across neighborhood contexts... Displacement takes many different forms—direct and indirect, physical or economic, and exclusionary—and may result from either investment or disinvestment” (U.C. Berkeley). Many people are coming into San Francisco’s Bay Area because of how diverse each element is. However, according to Census numbers, between 1990 and 2010, 35.7% of San Francisco’s black population dwindled (Bliss). 35.7% of the black community within San Francisco suffered from displacement. An additional 53% of low-income households in the Bay Area are at risk for displacement and gentrification (U.C. Berkeley). This has definitely left a dent within the diversity reputation held up by the Bay Area. When such a strong large part of people leave, The City will experience a shift in culture and community. Whether, it is the real estate, the food, the different cultures, the Bay Area has always been known for being different. Perhaps, this is why so many outsiders are coming in and buying up every piece of land they can. Whether their intentions were to purchase land and
These changes in the neighborhood emphasizes the process being done by gentrification. Seeing these changes in the area may be difficult and unfair from a perspective of local people who have been there for many years but it is essential to recognize that Bay Area is one of the areas that has continued to improve economically and it has become one of the most expensive places to live in United States. In other words, replacement of local people and businesses are “just” because people striving for their economic growth and greater opportunity is inevitable because our society has become materialistic and if the local people were in position of gentrifying process they would do the same. Although Gentrification is justifiable, I believe there are room for improvements and changes in the harmful process. For example, the people who are in the position of replacement should respect the history of the city and inherit some of the cultures and create buildings that fits in the community and represents the culture. In conclusion, Gentrification is a justifiable process of changes and improvements that are ultimately inevitable but it is also essential to recognize and inherit the the values, culture, and community that the city has build over
For those interested in living in a suburb of this great city, there are many to choose from. Each neighborhood has its own amenities and benefits to offer residents. Some of the best ones to consider are Greenway Fields, Stanford Gardens, Sunset Hill and Arnour Fields. Residents of these areas are treated to a high quality of life and an enjoyable atmosphere.
We looked at a variety of ways to help alleviate this cost. Since one of the main issues causing high living costs in the Bay Area is shortage of housing one of the possible solutions could be building more housing. Possible problems here are that San Francisco itself is not too big of a city and in most cities of this type in the world the population density is increased by building tall buildings –
The convenience of living in an urban or suburban neighborhood can be appealing to many people. Choosing between areas can sometimes be overwhelming for some individual. People are not only concerned about the safety of a community, but they are also concerned about the environment. Although some neighborhoods might look attractive, people should consider the expense that comes with it, and how commuting will affect them in the long run. Nevertheless, both neighborhoods have their specific advantages and disadvantages. When choosing between an urban or suburban neighborhood, it is important for people to research the community, the expense, and convenience

Where I live is one of the greatest neighborhoods in the city to live in; however it does have its draw backs. Importantly it has nearly everything a resident might want, beautiful picturesque scenery, proximity to shopping, and many of the cultural centers. Nevertheless the roads can be some of the most congested in town, and the streets are not safe to walk late at night.
