Improve Performance: Benchmarking helps to improve efficiency and quality of process and/or products. Improved process can lead to reduced production costs and in turn give maximized profits. Improved product quality can lead to increased revenue and hence increase profits. Improvement can be overall in operational efficiency as well as in product quality. Sometimes it can also be achieved in human resources through trainings and workshops for employee improvement.

Increase the Rate of Organizational Learning: During the process of benchmarking, there are many innovative ideas which can be expressed, and this helps to promote a healthy environment of innovation and learning amongst the employees. It also facilitates sharing of experiences amongst peers and seniors alike, which leads to an enhanced work environment.

1. Checklist: A Checklist, true to its name, enlists all the factors which constitute a benchmark. (Hopen) 2. Pareto Chart: Arranges all categories in a descending order, i.e. from highest to lowest, to signify which is of the highest frequency or priority. Pareto rule states that 80% of the issues are usually caused by 20% of the factors and if these are correctly identified and remedied, then most of the issues can be mitigated. Yes, we frequently used the performance benchmarks data. The information provided in the performance benchmarks gave great insight into where we stood in the industry when compared to other companies. It served as a great tool for determining the price range our company needed to stay within for the next year of the game. Once instance was year 17. We noticed our compensation was close to the low range section of the benchmark so we raised our compensation for year 18 so we could become close to the average compensation rate of the other companies. Another instance was with TQM. At the beginning of the game, we had a TQM of $2.50. After having difficulties, we lowered the TQM for a few years. In year 18 we realized most companies did not have a high TQM so we decided to increase out TQM as a way of setting ourselves apart from the other companies. Another way we used the performance benchmarks was to determine the price range we needed to have our cost per shoes in. The Performance Measurement is a way to either measure or give a understandable value to what has been done compared to what was supposed to be done. It applies to all aspects in the working environment, such as procedures, critical activities and processes. In other words, first you set pre-defined goals and give away tasks and responsibilities to other workers, then at the deadline you can compare the achieved results to what the original goal was at the beginning. It is also useful to evaluate not only the final result, but even all the actions taken to get that particular results and the way the actions have been taken as well.
Avie can assess the effectiveness of this strategy by using the benchmarking. Benchmarking involves comparing Avie Products’ processes and practices with the competition. This will allow Avie to measure how fast and how far they have progressed with their strategic plan.
