Reflection Paper On Child Development

During my time at the Child Development Lab I was placed in the infant room. Multiple things caught my eye during my observation. As my last observation reflection stated, the main thing I observed was: children are strange creatures. One thing I thought was quite interesting was the fact that I did observe all three domains. I saw each multiple times, and in multiple different situations. The first domain I observed was physical. When I was escorted into the infant room it was empty. I was a little confused, as was the secretary that showed me the way- that is until we saw the class outside. Immediately upon walking outside I noticed multiple children walking around and playing with toys. For the ages I saw most of the children seemed appropriately developed in the physical domain. The older infants/ toddlers could all walk, though there was a boy who seemed to struggle more than the others. This little boy had to concentrate intensely when trying to walk, and compared to the other children he was much slower when moving around the play yard. Overall, the children were appropriately developed. I saw this in the way they walked, played with toys, and how they interacted with each other. Interactions between the children and their peers, as well as with the workers, showed both the cognitive and socioemotional domains.
