Reflection is they key to growing and developing any new skill. With teaching being such a complex skill that involves many layers of practice and theory, it requires equally in depth reflection in a variety of formats. Watching my teaching video in front of the class helped me get over my self-consciousness and provided me with a number of action points moving forward. I feel motivated from the character and lesson based glows, challenged by the management based glows, and directed by the detail oriented “next steps” that I received through this feedback session. The first glow that I received was pertaining to my character and teaching presence. The adjectives that I collected were: calm, firm, confident, warm, and consistent, which …show more content…
This is a very real problem in all of my classes, and typically comes from the quicker students in those classes regardless of class level. I think that it can be easy to let happen because teachers have a bias of seeing these students as “good students” and do not see any immediate harm from shouting out. However, if this continues, it creates a negative culture of uncertainty for the rest of the students and does not prepare them for effective discussion. In reflecting on these grows and glows, as well as general comments that I heard, I came up with two separate action steps that I can do immediately. The intention is that these are less conceptual and more of a direct and precise change that I can make tomorrow. The first “next step” is to avoid facing away from the students so much when I am writing on the board. In the cases when I am facing away or writing, it is also important for me to avoid giving any important instruction until I have face the students again. The second “next step” is to reach out to more students to confirm the answers that I get from a cold call. I have struggled with this because we don’t use hand signals in our classroom as per my host teachers preference, but I think that it can be done more intentionally if I am tracking data on it. For instance, if I know the students who went through and did a certain set of math, then I can call on them to confirm the work. This
It is still so surreal to reflect back on my first semester as an incoming college student in the ENC1101 course, analyzing at my progression as a reader and writer in literacy. Since the first day of class I set in stone my goals for this class: receive a 4.0 GPA, develop my connecting theories skills in writing, and become more aware of objectives for each Unit throughout the course. All of these goals became achievements that not only make others proud but most importantly give me self pride. In order to earn the grades and achieve these goals, I went after every opportunity that I was given as an incoming college student, such as office hours and extra credit. By taking this course I have gained confidence with the utilization of literacy, and made an addition to my group of impactful literacy sponsors. Once students are finished with high school they assume that there is nothing else to learn beyond the stereotypical five paragraph essay, but they are so wrong. I was able to obtain so much knowledge about numerous course concepts from Writing about Writing, articles, and my professor. These concepts will carry on with me throughout a bright future of writing courses, job interviews, and any other skills that require literacy. The four outcomes listed below will help illuminate how I improved as a writer, by being a driven college student and going out of the way to earn my achievements in this course. In the first outcome I improved comprehending scholar texts,
Different theories and ways of practising exist for counsellors, with reflective practice becoming more popular amongst practitioners. Dallos, & Stedmon (2009) state that for professionals working directly with people, such as counsellors, reflective practice has quickly developed into a fundamental component of training, and the best practice for creating successful outcomes. This essay will focus on how reflective practice is critical for professional life, and how the use of reflection and theory can be used by counselling practitioners to inform their practice.
Students often find difficulty giving his or her attention to the teacher as others are talking or being disruptive. This instance can be avoided if the teacher will assert his self or herself and quieten the disruptive students. For example, I was in a class and the teacher was relating our studies to various movies and as we were watching one of the movies three students were making immature comments and the teacher never once told them to be quiet. Thus, I became very distracted and annoyed leading to a lapse in my attention causing me not to retain important details from the movie. In contrast, I have found it much easier to retain information or focus on the assigned work in a controlled classroom such as Mrs. Flemings’. Leading a student to an answer or understanding of the given work is just as vital as creating a controlled
I determined that I needed a new interest, something to keep my mind engaged and challenged. I enrolled in the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) through the Columbia Southern University (CSU) just for fulfillment. This reflection assignment exercise proves to be the catalyst for my future college endeavors. The assignment to reflect on DBA program dreamed of taking steps towards realizing those ideas and course accomplishments right now. Due to time some course assignments, I will embrace, and others will become challenging.
This essay will explore the methods, results\findings, and discussion of those who were interviewed by me as we did a reflective activity from the family wellbeing program using the topic life journey. There were two participants a male and a female. Each one of them was asked to do a time line of their life and, record some of the main events; the good and the hard times they have lived throughout they’re past life.
What motivated you to do your volunteer work? How did you come up with the idea for your activity? Who or what inspired you to get involved? How did your volunteer activity begin? Why did you feel it was important?
I learned a lot in my life like math, history, fitness, health, etc. Though I always had one curriculum that catch my interest than others. That subject would be english as the one that caught my eye as one might say. I was always fansticated with the certain techniques and skills you can learn from it. The expressiveness that people can learn from that subject and put what they learn into something big like for example writing an play, movie, skits, etc is truly something special. So as young adult I find myself willing to learn these intrestic skills that many talented writers have master and I have belief that my techniques will be sharpen to mastery. In english 102 I can proudly say that those beliefs did happen as the class went further through days and weeks so did my progression as a researcher and writer that in factly impact my future career. I own to the teacher and support programs in the school that provided me this which I couldn’t thrive without.

The challenging component this semester was transitioning from being a high school level writer to a college-level writer. However, English 10 has by far been my best experience in writing. By taking this course I have retrieved many helpful elements, that will help me be a successful writer throughout college. In high school, essays often gave me anxiety and stress, however, when taking English 10, I was able to learn to enjoy the process and the art of writing purposefully and mindfully. Even though I have taken advanced placement English courses in high school and have taken a practice run of college level English over the summer with Professor Brenda Venezia, I was still able to get a lot more out of this course. To showcase my progress in this course, I have included my essay from project 2 a rhetorical analysis titled, “Black Lives Matter!” and a research essay from project 3 titled “Why is Racism dangerous?”, which effectively demonstrate my growth as a creative writer, reader, and thinker.
There are many lessons I learned in a little over a year. June 24, 2016, I remember standing on the stage at CSU when the old district president gave her words of wisdom to me and I received the district flag. Our first event as an officer team we elected the secretary, treasurer, and parliamentarian. When Sarah, the old district president, stood up to nominate me for Parliamentarian I looked at her like she was crazy. I never thought that I would get the spot until they announced my name as the new parliamentarian. As a new team, we went to New Mexico as a new team and I met some people that are fun but I never thought they would become my best friends. I remember thinking that they were some of the best when we were sitting around telling embarrassing stories and Kyle, The State president, told his most embarrassing and everyone else just laughed. When we said goodbye it was hugs, tears and until next times.
As I approach the end of my first semester freshman, I have learned so much regarding these next four years and beyond though my goals and aspirations are still the same. Even the few people I have met have changed my perception drastically. Through exploration on campus, University of North Carolina at Charlotte has shown me what it has to offer regarding my major and preparation for my future career and I have been reaffirmed that I made the right decision.
Words aren’t necessary to express emotions. A bright-eyed smile can tell more than words do justice. The facial expressions and gestures from a single person have the ability to make a lasting impact on someone’s heart. Many forms of communication can be heard even when no sounds are present.
For as long as I could remember I never understood how to comprehend shakespeare, or old English poetry such as epics. My first time being introduced to this type of writing was 9th grade where she had us read Romeo and Juliet . At first, I was excited because I had always heard great things about the book and movie. However, I had no idea it was written in a different context. I was introduced to different words and phrases I never heard of . It had reminded me a lot of the bible, how you actually had to put things into perspective yourself because the message would never be as clear. It’s almost like critical thinking, but even knowing that trick I still would have no idea what I was reading or what the message was. We often would
As Yogi Berra would say, “just kidding I learned my lesson.” I made a lot of mistakes in my first OHSC0 writing assignment, the main one being to keep my essay focused even if it means leaving out what I had seen as comic relief. I believe just this change would have made room for me to correct most of my other mistakes as one of my biggest problems in this essay was editing it down to two pages. One of the main comments about my essay was that I should be, “including clear definition of terms in the scientific process,” and I actually previously had a much better definition for many of the terms, but I chose to cut and shorten them to make room for more comedic quotes. This was clearly a huge mistake and only hurt my essays fluidity and
Throughout life, we learn things; this can be practical things such as how to tie shoes or the fastest way to do dishes. These are simple things in life that do help, but these lessons do not help in developing as a person. I believe in the lessons we learn about how people work, and how we work, matter more than simple tasks. In The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch, a man who is dying of cancer capitalizes on these life lessons that contribute to our development as people, he introspects himself. I would like to look into myself and explain what life lessons I have learned and why they matter to me.
