What is servant leadership? How can you benefit from it? Serving at its core meaning is setting aside your own needs and desires, in order to aid or assist others with their needs. Notice I did not mention "wants", it is all about helping others achieve their legitimate needs. The benefits to you are endless. Here are a few examples. It builds trust and enhances your good reputation with others. It creates loyalty and strength in your relationships with your family, friends, and business associates. It exponentially adds purpose and personal growth to your life. Let's review some characteristics of this phenomenon.

Being committed requires one hundred percent effort and follow-up. It is futile to begin a worthwhile task or project and not continue to work on until its completion. Servant Leadership is defined as a leadership that is based on serving others altruistically. Servant leaders put the wellbeing of their followers ahead of their own needs in order to see them grow to their fullest potential. The leader makes sure that their followers grow as persons, become wiser, healthier, freer, and more likely to become servant leaders themselves (Northouse, 2013).
Servant leadership: “A leadership philosophy in which an individual interacts with others, either in a management or fellow employee capacity - with the aim of achieving authority rather than power. The authority figure intends to promote the well-being of those around him/her. Describe “servant leadership”. What does this mean to you? I am a firm believer in the saying “He who is the greatest servant is the greatest leader,” because it defines what servant leadership is. It is not about exercising authority over another, but rather it is the act of considering one’s needs more important than oneself. A servant leader seeks to build each other up and is willing to invest himself in the lives of others in order to accomplish the goals and desires of the body.

Upon completing studies at Concordia University, Graduate students are equipped for service in various settings, such as a member of a faith-based organization, at work, in your home, in the community and in the world. However, simply having the knowledge to serve others is not enough. Service to others is not about watching and waiting for service opportunity to arise. Instead, one must actually “pick up their mat” and look for ways to be of service to other and then act on upon those opportunities.
When you show a good atitude to others and being a respectful they would show respect back. Some examples of ways to be kind are listening to the teacher when he or she is talking, listen to your parents, giving good compliments, and helping someone if they need help.
This means to respect others as you would want them to respect you. If you ask someone for help and they concur, do not steal the credit for their work. On the other hand, if what they helped you with is unintentionally wrong, do not blame them or yell at them, as they were only trying to help you out. Never cut someone else down in front of others, yell at them or point out their bad qualities.
Respect is an important value to be taught when growing up. Through the years I have learned that in order to learn anything you must have respect for others. I have learned many valuable lessons from listening to my grandmother. She has told me many of her experiences, which has made me a better person. Having respect for other people has allowed me to be more open-minded and see qualities in people that most would not. I have always listened to what my friends and family has to say. That doesn’t always mean that I agree with them, but it is their opinion, so I respect it. In return I receive respect from them. As people begin to respect me more their trust in me also grows.
