As stated earlier, your physical health in school is more than just the “Freshman 15.” Having the proper nutrition, the proper exercise, and adequate rest is vital in your success as a student. Now, it is difficult to practice this due to some not having the time or resources. But just as your academics should be one of your top priorities, your health should be near the top as well.
Remember the first principle being all about harmony. Everything that is involved in your college life is integrated. If you have a poor diet and exercise, it will decrease your energy levels; which are needed to keep up with everything you may have going on. Preparing for finals will affect your emotions. The results of those finals will affect your emotions. Relationships with friends and significant other will affect you as well. No matter what it is, you cannot let those emotions overbear you and cause the other variables of your life to disrupt the harmony.
We all have a right to be emotional about certain things. We have anxiety over important tests. You will be sad and depressed if you fail a test or if you had a sequence of bad events. There will be people who betray you and have professors who make you so angry that you want them to get fired. You are free to feel the way you want, but the way you handle is important. The same way you handle your emotional health is the same as your mental health. Only focus on the present moment through mindfulness. Do as what Mark Owen said in No Hero, “Only focus on your three foot world...focus on what you can affect.” You can do so by practicing meditation or just closing your eyes and take three deep breaths whenever you feel upset or stressed to calm

The term “emotional” tends to be synonymous with the terms “irrational” and “chaotic”. People see those who are emotional as uncontrollable. However, people experiencing strong emotions are being guided but not being forced into any action; they are not uncontrollable. As David Brooks writes in his book “The Social Animal,” that when a person is experiencing a strong emotion, such as happiness, “the mind is sorting and coding. The body is responding. The heart speeds. Adrenaline rises. A smile opens up. Signals are flowing from body and brain and back again in quick intricate loops” (20). From this example, we can see that the person experiencing a strong emotion is not irrational or chaotic. On the contrary, the person is being guided by the

As a college student I chose an activity that I believe is one of the most important as well the most difficult for college students to do, exercising. I believe physical activity to be one of the most important personal self-care-activity a person can do to help improve their overall health. As a college student I have experienced what most college students or soon to be college students dread the most; “the freshman 15” which could easily be avoided with simply some exercise. Although many things lead to the freshman 15 such as irregular eating habits, stress, and lack of sleep I am going to discuss just how important exercise is as well as how it could help improve your overall health.
