My studies in computer studies over the past few days had me discontented in the beginning and joyous with a shared determination by Saturday afternoon. I opened the learning guide for the weeks working session starting June 25 and ending July 1st for a quick glance of the topics and the requirements for successfully completing this unit work. From the onset, when I viewed the assignment, I asked myself what made me choose this course so early. I began doubting myself and my true potential without reading the full details and the literature associated with it. Off course this will not help me complete this assignment.
I am a very hard-working, diverse, determined and honest person. I think one of my most distinguishing characteristics is my curiosity for learning new things and that is what led me to the field of Data Science. I first came across Data Science while doing research for building an Email Spam Detection application using machine learning for my college project. I was truly captivated with the way machine learning worked especially with its implementation in fields ranging from spam detection in emails to giving recommendations for music and products on sites like YouTube and Amazon, and also used in the areas of finance and healthcare. Since then, I am fixated on gaining more knowledge about the concepts of machine learning and data science in general. I intend on enrolling in Master's in Big Data at the University Of Stirling to pursue a successful career as a Data Scientist.
This will be my third attempt at entering the Computer Science major, but since my last two attempts I have worked to make my application more competitive. In particular, since my last attempt in February I have raised my grade point average in mathematics and physics as well as for my overall coursework at the University of Washington. I have also completed all of the General Education requirements except for foreign language, which I am completing over summer quarter. This means, that starting next autumn I can focus my efforts on completing the requirements for whatever major(s) I end up working toward. The most important thing that’s changed since my last application, though, is that I have been accepted into the Applied and Computational Mathematical Sciences major in the Discrete Mathematics and Algorithms option; as such I intend to double major with both that and Computer Science.
As my eighth birthday was approaching, I knew exactly what I wanted: A personal computer. I didn’t know nearly all of the functionality of such an apparatus at the time; in fact, my young mind probably thought of scribbling rabbits on Microsoft Paint as its primary reason for existence. As I grew up, I figured out the elusive device was not only analogous with entertainment, but it somehow also served to assist my parents at their jobs. To the juvenile version of me, this was fascinating - somehow, I wanted to traverse the vistas of possibilities that this technology offered. Even today, as I alternate between Skype calls and schoolwork on my laptop, I am still beguiled by the capabilities of computers. If technology could be this awe-inspiring, why couldn’t even I learn about its uses and utilize it for the benefit of the greater good? I knew from day one that I wanted to help people, but being able to culminate this desire with my own curiosity of the potential of computer science has influenced my academic choices and will continue to do so when I attend college.
This statement had a deep rooted impact on my attitude since my childhood. The quest for knowledge has always been a passion for me so when I am faced with myriad of choices for my career,I am determined to pursue research in the field of my interest and for this reason I choose to pursue MS in Computer Engineering at your esteemed university.Since childhood I was influenced by my mother who works in Doordarshan, India’s first Television network as an engineer. It was this fascination coupled with my childhood knowledge about basic computer operations that made me to venture into vastness of computers and electronics and aspired me to pursue a degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering major in my under graduation. My strong inclination towards Maths and Science supplemented by high performance in academics during my school years facilitated me to obtain an admission into
Playing games on my father's computer as a child fascinated me in the way the computer works, how fast it develops, and now how the computer helps the world to communicate. It still amazes me in how fast computers change and how communication across the globe is enhanced with the computer. Computers have drastically changed how society lives and does business. Even small businesses can do global sales without leaving their location. With new strategies for business, comes cyber threats of identity theft and theft of intellectual property that brings information technology security and new laws into play. It is becoming a fast and ever challenging world. Computer science enables the ability to program software for protection against these kinds of threats and vulnerabilities. It also enables the ability to program artificial intelligence into the computer system software to enable society to meet their needs in more appropriate ways.
I took courses for the basic programming languages like C, C++. I enjoyed it so much that I kept on programming in aforementioned languages rest of the summer. Considering my inclination toward computers and programming, I took admission in an undergraduate program in Information Technology at Sinhgad college of Engineering, Pune.
