Relationships with senior managers
Work to develop an improved working relationship with senior managers in my next job opportunity. This particular goal is to establish a more direct working relationship with future managers, which will aid them in learning more about me. This would support them in forming their judgments regarding, my skill-set, work performance and in area’s where I need improvement from my mouth and not merely based on the judgment of others.
In the past, I have often times shied away from developing a more personal relationship with my senior managers. I believe this stems from past experiences and also allowing my gut feeling to rule in these situations. I’m actually not afraid to talk with most people, which is rooted in something I was taught as a child, “we are all equals’ coupled with my natural inquisitiveness and interest in others. However, my reaction lately with senior managers, I believe is consequently, old identity issues re-emerging from a prior experience. I can recall from the past working with several managers in my field whose style of managing was demeaning and hurtful and threw me off of ‘my game‘, in having success in the workplace and in my career aspirations. I now tend to react a lot from gut instincts or feelings when it comes to people in management as to whether or not they are approachable lessening the opportunity to learn first hand if my feeling is right or wrong. Therefore, interpersonal skills with communication can help me be more successful as a manager and improve my working relationships with staff and partner agencies. The way I communicate with other people improves confidence, enhances my relationships with others thereby improving my effectiveness in the workplace.

The five functions of management are imperative in any business especially mine where we use computer technologies as our main source of profit. My company is a contract based company that provides technical support to a variety of customers through a cloud system to replace any IT information needed. In a business such as mine, the practices of planning, leading, organizing, staffing and controlling are all equally important. Each function has its own place and use in both a conjunction with other practices or on its own. In this paper, I will go into depth on how each practice is used either by me or by my other co-workers that make up our team.
