To get success in College you need to develop skills that are going to help you toward that success. The first step you need to do is to set goals that are going to keep you moving toward what you really want. You have long term, short term and immediate goals. All this goals are related; to reach short term goals you need to set the immediate ones and to get long term goals you need to set your short tem goals. Examples of goals in College could be graduated with honors as a long term goal, to graduated with honors you need to get good grades (short term goal), and to get good grades you need to attend class everyday, study daily and prepare for exams (immediate goals). College students face challenges in order to complete their studies, overcoming these challenges teach them how to be a self
College is an opportunity to truly discover who you are. Often enough, you hear people saying “You should really major in this field, I think you would really enjoy this career.” or, “Do you think you really want to study that? Have you thought about what you will be doing ten years from now?” filling your mind with self doubt, uncertainty, and the anxiousness of not knowing what you want to do with the rest of your life. Mark Edmundson wrote an article titled, Who Are You and What Are You Doing Here?, published in Oxford American addressing college students and their families how the most important thing college students should focus on is personal growth. When students take their courses seriously their engagement can help finding out who they really are and which future career will lead not necessarily to great financial success, but to a career and life that is very satisfying. Edmundson wants to inspire his audience and have them take what he is saying seriously. Edmundson uses satirical informal language and hypothetical situations to effectively persuade college students to focus on their personal growth in order to create a life and career that is deeply fulfilling.
In my current role as a nurse educator I feel the desire to pursue my dream of obtaining a master’s degree, specializing in nursing education. It has been 27 years since I have sat in the student chair in a classroom; therefore, I anticipate a number of challenges and barriers to overcome. In this paper I will present and describe three challenges that I expect to be faced with over the next two years. I will also discuss the strategies I plan to use to address these challenges.
Gary Colombo, Robert Cullen, and Bonnie Lisle in their book “Rereading America” feel that commencing college is a very disturbing experience. So many things we have to deal while starting college, but the major challenges are expanded difficulty levels and higher expectation which we are not familiar over the years of high school. In order to solve this issue, we have to remodel ourselves by taking up the challenge and rethink about our strength and flaws. To succeed in college we need to be mentally strong and dedicated towards our goal.
Motivation is based on the will to continue and achieve some means to an end. Whether it would be to wake up in the morning or to finish a doctorate in medical biology, motivation does exist. It exists for all of us and here is the response I can give for ‘what are my motivations.’
We all hope to be successful in our lives, whether success to you means owning your own business or becoming a millionaire, it all starts at having a college education. Hopefully, you have realized a college education is more than just receiving schooling, but also life lessons, growth in yourself, and starting from a blank slate and shaping yourself to what you see yourself being in the future. In todays economy, having a college education is a necessity. Although college is not for everyone, everyone should give it a
In my personality assessment I found that I over analyze things and I tend to over think and this is where I make the most mistakes because I do not always learn from my mistakes. I tend to do things over and over again not realizing I am doing it. I am also not very good at accepting change and I am working hard on this in my everyday life. When I get comfortable and someone takes me out of my warm and fuzzy place my mind is like scrambled eggs. What I do is sit think about the positive things that can happen and write it down to try to put myself at ease. My life factors I would have to say I have issues asking for help, I tend
It seems in the society we live in today, having a college degree is a necessity. Years ago it was the norm for people to just go right into a full time job after high school, if they even finished high school; they did this to support their families. In today’s society a person has a difficult time getting a decent job without a college degree. During an adults working life, bachelor degree graduates will earn about $2.1 million and a high school graduate can expect to earn an average of $1.2 million (Day and Newburger, 2002). This is quite a difference and it puts a college education in
“She’s pregnant!? Are you oblivious? Your life is over… Do you not realize what is going to happen? You MUST drop out and work to feed your family from now on! I thought you were smarter than this.” This type of verbal abuse continued in my brother-in-law’s family, but as buoyant as both my sister, and her boyfriend were at age 17, this only fed fuel to their fire for triumph. In this day of age, many unplanned pregnancies throughout young adults have discouraged their higher hopes and dreams. Many use the excuse “reality knocked me off my feet” or “things happen for a reason”. Who gave you this excuse…? Are you not the artist of your own reality? You can perhaps lash back at me with a higher power as the answer. Well, I am here to prove to
How can some people struggle when they have a degree from a quality institution, while others can be successful without a college degree or in a field unrelated to their degree? In my opinion, it’s because a college education doesn’t guarantee success. Success is up to many other factors that college often does not teach. I believe that certification tests would be a better replacement for the BA, because they would separate the students with the will and determination from those who are just coasting their way through their courses. Having other forms of means like certification tests would better implement employers with the important resources in determining whether or not applicants for any given job position hold the best
Motivation can come from two sources, from inside of you and from outside of you. It can come from your hopes and expectations. It is from your desire to do something or to be someone, but not everyone is highly

A person needs to achieve certain goals in one's life before you can call them successful. Success is to achieve goals, you have set. I have set certain goals I would like to achieve in my lifetime. Some of these goals are personal while others are professional. My professional goals in life are to find a good job that makes me happy, get a good education, find a job that makes enough money for me to support my family, and help people. Goals it is very important for me to receive a good education. Most job fields require a descent education. If I don't have an education I would not be able to function properly at the work place and I would not understand what to do. To maintain a good job that will make good money will require me to go
Everyone can be successful in life but it requires some responsibilities. Success doesn’t happen right away, so it takes time and patience’s for things to fall into place. To have a successful life you must work hard to get where you want to be, it can’t just be handed to you for free. One thing is to never give up on your goals or dreams you want to achieve. When you accomplish great things in life it feels great. A successful student needs to use self-discipline and making wise decisions.
Without that fuel, you will go nowhere. Motivation can be a number of things. It could be family, money, fame, fear of failure; anything that makes you strive for your goal. My motivations are to: become famous, be able to live comfortably, and to be able to raise a family. I will hold onto these things and will keep moving towards success. Nelson struggled with his motivation, “I felt impressed with a feeling that I should never rise in my profession. My mind was staggered with the view of the difficulties I had to surmount and the little interest [influential friends] I possessed. I could discover no means of reaching the object of my ambition. After a long and gloomy reverie in which I almost wished myself overboard, a sudden glow of patriotism was kindled within me and presented my king and country as my patron. ‘Well then,’ I exclaimed, ‘I will be a hero and confiding in providence I will brave every danger.’” He found his motivation to be patriotism to his country to be known as a hero.
