The reasons behind this research idea stem from my experience observing year 7 pupils at my second placement. Pupils in ICT lessons did not have exercise books, instead they would use printed workbooks. Pupils would learn the theory of something and then write it in the space provided in the workbook. Each lesson would be pre planned within the workbooks which left the teacher with very little room to teach outside of this structure. Pupils were negative when asked to get their workbooks out, when asked to write what they have just learnt in their workbooks pupils would start to misbehave and lost focus. I felt the workbook could be used as a way to reflect at the end of a lesson, and the majority of lesson time spent on learning the theory in engaging ways. …show more content…
I never thought about pupils seeing and understanding the amount of effort a teacher puts into a lesson, but clearly if pupils can see that little to no effort has been put into the lesson then they become negative towards the resources and the class teacher. As a teacher, I need to ensure that my pupils are positive about their work, engaged in the lesson and confident with me. If pupils are just working through a workbook, with little interaction from the teacher, how can we check progress during the lesson, and thus how can we deal with any issues with the lesson content? “When students struggle with their work, what determines whether they give up or continue to try and overcome it?” (Dweck,
Although teachers plan carefully, the tasks set may be at the wrong level for the pupils you are supporting. In this situation you may adapt the work to a suitable level so that it more of a challenge or altered so it is at a level that is achievable by the pupils. Also you may be working with a group whose abilities are quite varied meaning some may finish before others, it is important that you have something else for them to move on to. You should inform the teacher after the activity if you have to do this.

For this section of the research, it will be performed by using secondary data analysis with longitudinal design and quantitative data. For the secondary data analysis, it will be using the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth 1979 from the U.S Bureau of Labor statistics. Since this study focuses on secondary data, the sampling procedures provided by the original data collectors was that in the NLSY79 they have collected data from families who had their children between the 1980’s from the year 2012. The assessment of the Survey is called HOME (Home Observation Measurement of the Environment) which is the primary measure of the quality of a child’s home environment that is included in the NLSY79 child survey (The Bureau
Skin hygiene mean taking care of body. A person sweats throughout the day therefore the best way is to keep body clean with soap and water are vital for keeping the skin clean. Also recommended that a good bath once or twice a day for skin care (Ibid). (Hossain, 2012) stated that skin cracks and wounds can allow pathogens to enter the body for this reason personal hygiene is one of the best practices in terms of protecting the body from diseases (p.3).
A significant amount of research has been done in the areas of learning styles, numerous intelligences and methods for note taking. To date there has been little research connected to Interactive Notebooks; this study will concentrate on the theories that support the utilization of interactive notebooks. When teachers choose to use Interactive Notebooks in their class rooms, they must be aware of the students learning style to better serve them.
Teachers are always assigning homework in the textbook and of course every student complains. Not only because they have homework, but because they have to lug home multiple textbooks. Many school districts have been trying to find a way to solve this complaint. What school board officials have come up with is replacing the textbooks with notebook computers or tablets. It is the 21st century, there is technology booming everywhere. However, converting the notebook computers might not be the greatest decision.
Smudged ink, poor binding, and ripped pages. Nobody likes a book that is falling apart and smells musty enough to be far too old to use. Then add the fact that it may weigh 20 pounds and it becomes even more of a hindrance. I am talking about textbooks. Luckily, there is a new alternative. Today, many electronic books or e-readers have not only become more convenient and easy to use, but also increasingly more popular. Many people are opposed to this new technology for many reasons that remain unclear to me. However, many studies have been done and shown that technology can help students to learn and test better. “Students who used the iPad version scored 20 percent higher on standardized tests versus students who learned with traditional
On a different note to the verbal appraisal of the student from the teacher, whilst assisting within a lesson, I also noticed that on several occasions, on different days, that the teacher had set homework and additional homework/ reading from the particular lesson to enhance their skills in reading and writing for the students again and again regardless of what was set already, which on hinds sight may have caused unneccesary stress, had the amount of additional work been reduced, which may in fact enable to increase the students maximum input into the individual pieces of work. It would have been essential if the teacher took
Every student deserves the most effective teaching materials in the classroom. Textbooks are not supplying what students need to achieve success throughout his/her education; therefore, tablets/computers should be used over textbooks. There are multiple advantages and disadvantages to taking textbooks out of classrooms throughout the United States.
“Are we going to prepare kids for their future, or our past? If we aren’t using technology, we aren’t preparing them for the future” says Sister Patricia Clune, Superintendent in Kansas City (Galitzine). Many kids develop back problems at an early age from carrying heavy textbooks(Tablets). Electronic devices weigh much lighter than textbooks making it a more suitable option for kids (Tablets). Textbooks need to be constantly updated but by using electronic devices schools can easily update books electronically at a much cheaper cost (Tablets). There are numerous tools found online that educators can use to encourage students to be more innovative and creative with their learning (Hilgedick). The support for electronic devices is
Every student has their own preference for learning and every student use different techniques for learning. Learning also varies from subject to subject. For example, mathematics requires hand practices, on the other hand some subjects require just visual reading to remember.” In the past, a typical classroom was completely teacher-directed and contained the usual materials consisting of a chalkboard, textbooks, pencil, and paper. However, over the past decade that has drastically changed. Now days, most classrooms are equipped with multiple
One of the questions that an organization must decide before conducting research is which research approach will be most appropriate. The approach chosen will depend on the research question and the type of information is seeking. There are three general research approaches; descriptive, exploratory and causal (Kolb, 2008).
What I realize now is that these teachers simply need to clarify the goals of their lessons, or as we have studied in this class they need to improve their ability to set SMART goals. Neihart (2008) states that “Goals focus our attention by directing it activities that are relevant to the task and away from activities that are irrelevant” (p60.). This is so true when
As effective a teacher can be, student learning and understanding are the primary goals in all educators’ minds when they are teaching. Overall, each of the teachers is constantly trying to ensure completely understanding, changing the lesson to adapt the pace of what the students need to learn. When her students were not working through the lesson as quickly as she had expected, Ms. Kennedy removed a task of the lesson for her class to be able to finish what was necessary to the class. By being adaptable and prepared for the possibility of the lesson plans not working as successfully as planned allowed students the ability to be able to learn what is necessary in the lesson, even if that means cutting a task or two in the entire lesson scheme. To students who were misbehaving, they were corrected and redirected by their name, being told to return their focus back to their work. By redirecting the behavior back to working on their assignment put the emphasis on the importance of the learning in the classroom. For the students who needed more time and help, Mrs. Graham would quietly tell the students that they could keep working on the work and if time did not allow the students to continue working, they were told they needed to finish their work for homework. The materials used were chromebooks for the most part in their classes, which helped individualize the work. With working on the chromebooks, students were able to begin their work on individual assignments and allowed
During the whole group mini-lesson, I noticed most of the educators had their objectives written where the students could see them. They began with a review of previous lessons, activating students’ prior knowledge (p.253). The teachers did not stray off from the posted goals unless the class needed more time to review past instruction. I observed one anchor chart use five fingers on a hand to remember the different elements of a story such as; characters, setting, problem, events, and the solution (p.307). The educators had access to many mentor texts in the shared resource room as well as from their own library.
