The original leadership began Coca-Cola’s long journey to success. John Stith Pemberton, an Atlanta pharmacist, invented Coca-Cola in 1886. Made of coca plant (cocaine) and cola nut, Coca-Cola was sold as a headache medicine. Originally this soft drink brand was not fizzy and may have been accidentally carbonated. Frank Robinson, Pemberton’s partner, had a printer that produced two different colors at the same time. He took over advertising and marketing for Pemberton Chemical Company, which owned Coca-Cola. Credited for naming Coca-Cola, Robinson wrote out the logo in Spencerian script then later was involved in the sale of the company. The second owner of Coca-Cola made the soft drink brand grow. Thinking Coca-Cola helped reduced headache pain, Asa G. Candler, an Atlanta businessman, bought large shares of the company. Later in 1891 he was the sole owner of Coca-Cola. When Candler took over, the amount of cocaine and caffeine was decreased because of the public dissension. He spread the soft drink across America making the sales increase. From concerts to sport venues to local restaurants you are more than likely to come across a Coca-Cola product, Coca-Cola has had such an impact on society that it is given credit for how we portray Santa Clause today.
