The Charlotte Convention center is proud to be the host of the Independent party convention; throughout the convention we will be the host to the various activities that will enhance the party’s incentives. During political conventions there are a lot of activities that happen throughout the course of these events. The event planning committee is preparing for a wide range of events such as speeches, nomination process, seminars, the stating of the party platform, and parades. While all these activities have a certain amount of risk involved, parades and the demonstrations that occur during a political convention provide a greater amount of risk. As a result, the following risk management plan will address the risk associated with parades and demonstrations, and offer solution that will reduce the risks associated with these events. “A parade is a public celebration of a special day or event that usually includes many people and groups moving down a street by marching or riding in cars or on special vehicles (called floats)” (Simple Definition of Parade, 2015, para.1). When planning a parade there is plenty of risks that can happen, which can cause harm to the attendees. As a result, strict guidelines on the manner the parade will happen will be developed and communicated with all the stakeholders of the parade. The first guideline that will be developed to mitigate the risk of the parade is the creation of a fire safety parade code. The fire marshal will be a key
At the Philadelphia Conventions the concerns were about the national citizenship, who had the right to vote, who was allowed to run for public office, where national power ended and state power began, and slavery. The Fourteenth Amendment begins with talking about who was considered a citizen. The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is a non-for profit organisation that organises the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade annually. The parade aims to “raise the visibility of the lesbian, gay bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex communities”. This mission is achieved by the organisation through allowing individuals to use the event to promote pride in sexuality as well as sending a wider message of diversity and acceptance. Though the event is considered now considered a mainstream festival and includes over 10000 participants, it originally began as a political protest in 1978 where participants marched in show of support to the National Homosexual conference as well as San Francisco’s Gay Freedom Day. During this event participants were violently reprimanded by the police. During the months
The 1860 National Convention of the Republican Party of the United States, was held in Chicago, Illinois at the Wigwam Convention Center. The Chicago Wigwam was constructed as a convention hall and it was built near the corner of lake and market streets in Chicago. This exact area is where a popular hotel was built and burnt down a couple years before. The Wigwam Convention Hall was two stories high and it was 180 by 100 feet. It could hold thousands of convention goers. The cost of the wigwam was 5,000 dollars and many people said it looked like a huge barn. Despite this, inside it looked great with its color and shape designs, flags, and wreaths and with red white and blue colors decorated throughout the halls. The Wigwam Republican convention was located in Chicago. Chicago was voted as a neutral site as well as the best site for the convention. A strong case for this was because it was based on 3 things and they were: the new railroad transportation, new comfortable hotels and of course, it being a neutral territory. During this time, former Representative Abraham Lincoln of Illinois was nominated for President and Senator Hannibal Hamlin of Maine for Vice President. Lincoln presented himself as a man of the people. He had many careers after he moved to Illinois, some of them were, Captain of volunteers during the black hawk war, he was also a lawyer, and a store clerk. In 1846 he went on to win the election of us house of representative. He also had a couple of
As indicated by the scenario it seems that the decision problem is a matter if the accounting systems annual conference that is previously scheduled to occur on September 13-16,2005 should be canceled, due to the fact Hurricane Katrina has occurred and demolished building and homes leaving them in ruin in the city of New Orleans, Louisiana. In May of 1787, fifty-five delegates from all states except for Rhode Island held a convention in Philadelphia (Henretta, 2012, pg.184). The convention later known as the Philadelphia Convention. The goal was to determine the future of the Republican Government. The nationalist composed of an elite group of well-educated men. Unfortunately, the most influential members such as John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Sam Adams, and Patrick Henry would not be attending (Henretta, 2012, pg. 185). The convention would back down from the demands of delegates from southern states. Without the importation of African slaves continued their states would not be part of the Union (Henretta, 2012, pg. 187). Leaving the southern states free to determine the legal ramifications of slavery in their own states. For the sake of more arguments, not for lack of concern. Delegates recognized the contradiction of slavers and the republican principle, but assume that it would eventually die out.

The Democratic convention for the Election of 1860 was held from April 23rd to May 3rd at Charleston, South Carolina. During this convention there was a disagreement over the slavery policy, so some of the Southern delegates withdrew from the ballot. The party wasn’t able to nominate a candidate at this convention, therefore they held a second convention from June 18th to June 23rd in Baltimore, Maryland. At this second convention, the party nominated Stephen Arnold Douglas as president with Herschel Johnson as his vice president after they defeated John Breckinridge. Soon after, conflict arose so a large number of mostly Southern Democrats nominated John Cabell Breckinridge as their presidential candidate with Joseph Lane as his vice president. Douglas and Breckinridge ended up becoming the candidates for the Democratic party during the election.
The National Convention adopted a revolutionary calendar to replace the Gregorian Calendar on November 24, 1793. Despite people not wanting the calendar to change, the National Convention felt it needed to be changed because a new era had begun and they wanted to break away from the Roman Catholic Church. The responses of the people were not all good, some were bad given they did not want anything to
March 16 saw a demonstration in Montgomery, Alabama in which 580 demonstrators planned to march “from the Jackson Street Baptist Church to the Montgomery County Courthouse” (Reed 26). These protestors included a large number of northern college students. They met a police line a few blocks from the Courthouse and were forbidden from proceeding because “they did not have a parade permit” (Reed 26). Across the street came 40 or so students who planned on joining the group en route to the Courthouse. Eventually a few of the demonstrators dared to cross the street, led by James Forman who had organized the march. When it seemed the whole group would cross, police took action, with mounted officers and volunteers arriving at 1:12 pm. Riding into the small group of protestors, they forced most to withdraw, but a few stood fast around a utility pole where horsemen began to beat them. “A posseman
The main point of the meeting was discussing four possible strategies four Convention Week as follows: mass disruption, uniting behind a peace candidate, a “stay home” strategy, or to bring as many protestors as possible to Chicago. The fourth was the chosen strategy, and Tom Hayden and Rennie Davis urged to make it a non-violence strategy.
Planning and managing a sport venue during any event can be challenging even to the most seasoned facility managers. There are many factors that a facility manager must consider in order to ensure the event is a success. Success of an event can be measured in many ways across a wide array of topics; two of which are crowd management and alcohol management. Having a solid plan and operational controls in place for both can lead to a fun and safe environment for all parties involved with any event.
