ERP is a major IT used by General Mills, and is instrumental in integrating information and data into a central source. From financing to supply chain to marketing, ERPs provide a platform for automating multiple applications. General Mills has implemented an extended ERP (Turbin & Volonino, 2010) which allows for supply chain management resources to be shared with business partners. General Mills’ solution, called E-source, is developed by SAP and is a Web-based application that extends the supply chain to external stakeholders (“Esource”, n.d.). SAP is a manufacturer of enterprise application software that creates ERPs for supply chain, human resources and finance, among other business areas.

The purpose of this project is to conduct an analysis research into the implementation and management of this business enterprise system. To develop an effective application that optimally supports the business process. Business process analysis identifies bottlenecks in efficiencies disconnects and other problem areas. The benefits of enterprise-wide systems such as enterprise resource management (ERP), customer relationship management (CRM), and supply chain management (SCM) directly align with Riordan’s strategic direction. Proper implementation of these systems will add value to Riordan’s business model. However, enterprise-wide implementations are characterized by large investments and large time commitments. Therefore, the organization must evaluate which systems will help it achieve the majority of its goals, in a reasonable time frame. In doing so, decision-makers can determine if each system’s value is worth its costs and the order in which to invest in and implement each system.

Reading through the requirement of this paper there were several options to choose from. There are several companies that offer integration to their customers such as SAP which is the leader in ERP solutions, Oracle which came to the industry after acquiring PeopleSoft back in 2005, Microsoft, and IBM. Reading the materials throughout this semester was interesting as it gave me an inside view of system integration and it made me think of the architecture of how companies integrate their system or the high level thought of how things are done when big companies acquire other companies. Researching all these four big companies, I found that Oracle had a lot of products that integrate systems and it seems they have a solution for a lot of major industry with pre-defined modules that help jump start the integration process.
