In the early eighteen hundreds, the United States was facing exponential progress in manufacturing as well as social issues. These advancements were known as the Industrial Revolution and the Reformation Era. During this period, several reformation movements happened that resulted in better industrial technology, more civil rights to citizens of different races and genders. Had these advancements not occurred, the United States of America would most likely be in a significantly different place today. While many of these left a positive result in our country, sadly, many of these also had devastating effects. Therefore, the movement I would be most willing to stand for is the Women’s Right’s movement.
Firstly, these negative movements include the Indian removal and Manufacturer’s harsh labor practices. Our textbook claims, Andrew Jackson had a strong distaste toward the Indian Tribes. A common view held at this time was the perception of Indians as “savages” (Brinkley 211). Movements such as the trail of tears, set into place by Andrew Jackson, encouraged the derogatory image of Native Americans. The perception of them as savages devalued them from people and caused men to allow this mistreatment. Furthermore, in the early eighteen hundreds, manufacturing grew in surplus. The high demand for production led to mistreatment of workers. In fact, Brinkley states, “Manufacturers found it difficult to maintain the high living standards and reasonably attractive working conditions
