The Importance of Informational Writing in the Nursing Profession Possessing strong written communication skills is essential for all healthcare professionals. While working as a nurse, it is necessary to communicate effectively, not only with the patient, but also with family members and other medical professionals. “Nursing is the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, facilitation of healing, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, groups, communities, and populations” (“What is Nursing?”). In the future, I would like to work as a pediatric registered nurse. A pediatric registered nurse assists medical doctors in providing medical care and treatment to infants, children and adolescents up to twenty-one years old. The duties of a pediatric registered nurse may include: documenting a patient's symptoms and medical history before the encounter with the doctor, taking vitals, drawing blood, and administering medications and vaccinations. Prior to practicing as a registered nurse, one is required to complete an undergraduate nursing program and pass the NCLEX-RN exam. A pediatric registered nurse can work in a variety of healthcare settings including hospitals and private practices. All nurses share a common goal; improving the quality of health while also providing emotional support to the patient and his or her family
