When it comes to violence in schools, it’s nothing new. Every day, the news media covers a story over violence happening in school. My views over violence in school is there needs to be better protection. The safety in schools is important because the kids in school is our future. They are our future engineers, doctors, lawyers, etc., and if they don’t have the protection they need, the kids in school can’t learn. A couple suggestions to make the schools safer are practice the A.L.I.C.E. more than once, go over what to do when an intruder is in the building, and how to protect themselves and the people around them.
A way for the schools to be safer is to practice the A.L.I.C.E. A.L.I.C.E. stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate (Eells). It’s effective to practice it because the kids and teachers have a chance to practice how to protect themselves during a real life events. School intruder situations can last anywhere between five to seven minutes (Eells). When the school is alerted that they are on lockdown, teachers are advised to use plain and simple language. They are advised to use plain and simple language because it won’t confuse the children and they can escape quicker. If the class can’t escape through the windows or through the doors, the school urges them to barricade and lockdown the classroom.
