Which Greek deity would you most like to have as the ruler of your country? I would choose to have Apollo as the ruler of my country because he’s the sun god and the sun is essentially the center of the universe and gives life to everything. He’s also associated with medicine, prophecy, rationality, and intelligence (along with many other things) which are all things important to everyday life and would be helpful in ruling a country. A good ruler should be rational and intelligent because they must make decisions that affect the people of their country.
Which one would you least like to have as a ruler? I would least like to have Ares as a ruler because he represented the brutality, raw violence, and devastation of war and because of those characteristics he doesn’t seem fit to rule a country. He was disliked by the Greeks so I don’t think the human race would find him appealing either. No one would want to associate violence and/or destruction with their own country and people. He’s also said to have a violent personality and I do not think things would end well if he was under stress and had to make crucial decisions concerning the life of the people of the country. Ares is the opposite of Athena who represented the military strategy in war and without intellect he is unreliable in decision making.
Which Greek deity would you most like to have as a parent? I would like to have Artemis as a parent because she is a goddess of childbirth and that would give her more
Francesco Petrarch (1304-1374) was an Italian scholar, poet, and early humanist during the reformation of the Renaissance period. He was one of the greatest poets of the 14th-16th century, and is regarded as the father of the humanist movement. Petrarch was a prolific writer. Not only was he known for poetry in Italian and Latin, but also hundreds of letters, essays and histories. Like Dante, a generation before Petrarch wrote in a vernacular style to bring Italian a literary language.
Louis XIV, Peter the Great, and Tokugawa Ieyasu all considered their own power and strengthened their states in many different ways but their actions were all similar. They united their states, introduced reforms and assessed their power and the effect that they could have on others. Although their techniques were different, the ways these monarchs ruled their states show great similarities.
In the movie “Antz”, the producers tied many governmental issues into the story. The colony was led like a Monarchy, Communism, and Democracy. Communism for example was a major part of the story. Communism is a system where everything belongs to "the community", so people own nothing much more than the clothes on their back, and the State owns everything. It leaves no reward for personal incentive, and even the lives of the populace don't belong to them, but to the State. Resisting was often death. Communism is the next step between socialism and death. The government dictated the entire colony and every aspect of the ant’s lives. The person leading this type of government was General Mandible. An example of why it is communism is because
Being the god of manly courage, bloodlust, civil order, and warlike frenzy, Ares shouldn’t be considered a very powerful god. Even though he is the god over these things, he is no more powerful than the others. In fact he is actually weaker than the others due to his shear blood lust and blind rage allowing him to be easily overcome. Ares should not be considered anything other than the loser he is because he can never win a battle, is constantly getting in trouble, and has a very quick temper and enjoys bloodshed.
King Afonso I was king of Kongo during the 1520s. Qianlong was emperor of China during the Qing dynasty, during the 1790s. In the kingdom of Kongo, there were many Portuguese merchants whom had established close political and diplomatic relations with the king. These relations brought much wealth and recognition to Kongo, but it also brought problems that led to its inevitable destruction. Portuguese merchants embarked on slaving expeditions. Their tactics undermined the authority of the kings, who appealed repeatedly to the Portuguese to cease or at least to limit their trade in slaves. During the Qing dynasty, global trade brought much
It has been known that the Romans and the Greeks have had many interactions with each other, whether it would be due to trading or just plain traveling, the stories of their myths have crossed each other in one way or another. This is may be the reason why there are many similarities between Greek and Roman Mythology. Even though a Greek god or goddess may have a different name in Roman Mythology they still performed similar tasks and were worshiped for similar reasons. I will compare and contrast Greek gods with their Roman equivalences to see how similar they truly are to each other. Probably the most famous Greek god, Zeus, was the god of all gods. Born to Cronus and Rhea, he was the ruler of the sky, and had
If I were a goddess I would be Athena. In Roman Mythology her Latin name is Minerva. Athena is Zeus’ daughter so she has a somewhat “high ranking”. Her realm of rule weapons is a sword and battle armor. The symbolic animal of her is an Owl. She was born from the head of Zeus.
There has been many type of monarchies all throughout Europe's history that each had their own ideas of a good social structure. Usually, the lowest class is treated poorly by the higher classes. The monarchs would make certain actions to fulfill his needs or those of the higher classes even if it causes the lower classes to suffer. Political rule during the 18th century denied the people of some if not most of their natural human rights. This would lead to enlightened thinkers challenging the traditional rule of monarchy.
Lisbon is the main area that Henry the Navigator sent out his ships to discover the new world. This became a very popular trading depot because of its location and finding new things during exploration. This was a place where the Colombian Exchange happened, especially with what is now Brazil. This is also where Ferdinand Magellan set off to sail completely around the earth.
forces around the world. The grayness of this area comes from the fact that what
The god I chose is Poseidon and I will explain his powers, accompleshments, and life in the pages listed below. Poseidon is a very important because he is one of the major three gods called the big 3. He is the brothers of the other two, Zues and Hades. Since the big 3 swore to never have kids they couldn’t marry humans, so Poseidon married a sea-nymph named Amphitrite. He was the god of the sea and horses and protected and ruled both of those things. There are many rivers with their own gods, poseidon was the god of all water in general. Other than the sea and horses he is also the god of earthquakes and can cause or stop them. When he was not on Mount Olympus he was in or near the water at pretty much all times. Other than being able to
In the world we live in today the roles of power and leadership are often confused. Although they have similar meanings, they can be distinctly defined between the latter. The key difference between the two is the term of effect. Power is the exercise of leadership, and leadership is only defined if you have power. Leadership always involves attempts on a leader to affect behavior or a follower in a situation, whereas power is not equivalent with influence on another person’s behavior. Although power and leadership have similar meanings, they are certain differences that can point out what makes
During the late 1400s and 1500s, many rulers took great measures to centralize political power and place it in their own hands. This lead to the occurrence of absolute monarchies, some of which I thought were overall very effective. In absolute monarchies, theoretically the monarch is all-powerful, with no legal limitations to his or her authority. Absolutism in Europe was characteristically justified by the doctrine of divine right, according to which the monarch reigns all-powerfully by the will of God. The intention of absolute monarchs is to utilize his or her power in an effective, better-organized way, despite its weaknesses or negative consequences; and from my perspective, I would have to say
A subject leader or middle manager plays a crucial role for every school or institution. The Teacher Training Agency (TTA, 1996, P. 4) illustrate that:’ Evidence from OFSTED inspections and other sources has shown that pupil achievement is higher when the role of the subject leader is clearly identified and effectively implemented.’ Considering the structural aspects, Morris and Dennison (1982, p. 40) suggest the role of the subject leader should be following:
Kings and rulers started to emerge as soon as people moved away from living in tribes. This was the case with the Jews when they have decided to unite under one ruler. However, long before them the first empire was established in Mesopotamia by Sargon of Akkad in 2334 BCE (Kelly, 2011). The essay will compare kingship in three geographically and chronologically different societies. They are the following: Babylonians during Hammurabi’s reign (1792-1750 BCE), Neo-Assyrians (934-610 BCE), and the Jews (1000 BCE). In order to avoid historical distortions, primary sources from those time periods will be used. These three communities have influenced each other in different fields. Therefore, we can see similarities in their ruling systems.
